Really a fan of cuddles in whump fics, specifically if the whumpee isnât typically what youâd call a cuddler. After the torture/injury/nightmare/panic attack/etc, the caretaker just gathering the whumpee up in their arms and holding them close, as the usually-reserved whumpee just sags into their embrace.
Good stuff.

When a character is too weak to even lift their hand and their companion lifts their limp arm from where it's sprawled beside them and cradles their hand and manually folds their fingers around their grasp and clutches the hand to their chest heedless of any blood and chafes some warmth into the cold digits and doesn't so much kiss their hand as press their lips long and fervently to their knuckles and breathe reassurances and pleas over their clammy skin as they hold their hand between both of theirs.

Need more affectionate nuzzles from Caretaker, please and thank you (bonus points if they're platonic)

Whumpee is dying, nothing can stop it anymore. Instead of a goodbye - when Whumpee closes their eyes for the last time, when they take their final breaths, when their hand in Caretaker's goes limp - Caretaker whispers "good night."

hair touching.
is the hair sweat-damp? plastered to whumpeeâs forehead as caretaker strokes it away, placates them after blood loss or through bouts of fever?
is it soft, freshly washed? has caretaker combed out the tangles and knots and made sure that whumpee is comfortable?
does caretaker stroke it in a soothing motion, in wide pets? do they run their fingers through it? do they just rest their hand on it and stay there, so the presence comforts whumpee?
does whumpee lean into it, or do they flinch away? is caretakerâs touch reassuring to them, or is it a trigger, a reminder of something they donât want to face?
does whumpee ask for their hair to be touched? do they pick up caretakerâs hand and place it on their hair, or are they too weak to do that, and instead simply tilt their head in caretakerâs direction and hope they get the hint? or perhaps theyâre unconscious. perhaps caretaker just strokes whumpeeâs hair of their own volition.

I stumbled on this and thought it was something you might enjoy.
TW: major character death, impromptu 1800s medically-assisted dying
(I don't watch the show so I don't have much background, but apparently dying of scurvy is really really miserable (and Brits were really really stubborn about not taking a tip from the societies that have lived and thrived in the arctic for thousands of years))
OOOOO!! thank you đđđđđ

i love whump where whumpee and caretaker are strangers.
maybe caretaker is out on a jog and sees whumpee, who just got mugged, bleeding in an alley.
maybe caretaker is a nurse and whumpee is their new patient.
hell, maybe caretaker is a pizza delivery person, and when they go into whumpeeâs house they find them hurting.
how bad is it? broken ankle? heart attack? gunshot wound? there are so many possibilities, and i think itâs really neat when caretaker and whumpee donât already have a bond â because now, as caretaker stays by whumpee and comforts them, thatâs when the bond can form.

A character desperately trying to explain something to their companions through the throes of: hypothermic shivering; feverish delirium; bone-deep exhaustion; aftereffects of near-strangulation; laryngitis lost voice; hyperventilating; frantic sobbing; drugging/sedation; a mouthful of blood- or any combination of the above, whether it's physically difficult to get the words out, their tongue won't connect with their brain, they can't marshal the thoughts coherently, but they're desperate for what they're trying to say to be understood by their companions.

whumpee asking for touch.
âŠwhether itâs with words, begging someone to grasp their hand, to give them a hug. asking caretaker to hold them.
âŠor through gestures â just reaching out a hand and hoping someone near gets the message. wordlessly leaning in to caretakerâs side. tugging their friend down into an embrace.
âŠor maybe whumpee canât even move. maybe all they can do is just make facial expressions. pleading with their eyes for someone to just caress their hair, or give them a pat on the shoulder, or take their hand.

battlefield whump (other than simply âgetting shotâ) đŁ
i am talking specifically about early 1900s-era battlefields. those vibes. but you can also alter it to be medieval war, or maybe even in a fantasy setting!
freezing cold, biting wind, icy sleetâ covered in mud and blood and rain
field medicine!!
trying to comfort an injured/sick/dying fellow soldier when no help is coming
shrapnel. this can cause PROBLEMS. hundreds of pieces that get embedded everywhere throughout whumpeeâs body? good shit
no pain meds, so whumpee has to bite down on a stick or a rag or something. maybe thereâs alcohol to take the edge offâ maybe not
friendly fire đ nonono think about it. itâs dark, or foggy, or stormingâ maybe one soldier has a head injury and isnât seeing straight. they fire and hit whumpee. imagine the guilt. whump on both sides!!
caretaker comes across a wounded/dying soldier from the other side who has been abandoned by their platoon. what does caretaker do? do they sit down and try to comfort them? do they leave and let whumpee die alone?
blunt force trauma
being hit by tanks or other military vehicles
plane or helicopter crashes
internal bleeding from bomb blasts
infected woundsâ sepsis, fevers, delirium, oh my!
just the isolation of being alone, maybe thousands of miles from home, scared and in pain.

caretaker assuring whumpee that theyâre safe now.
the hard part is over.
maybe whumpeeâs fever has finally broken. theyâre soaked through with sweat, blinking wearily back to lucidity, and caretaker rocks them in their arms. âthere you are,â caretaker cries. âwelcome back. itâs okay. youâre okay.â
maybe whumpee is out of surgery and waking up in a hospital. caretaker sits by their bedside, holding their hand and pressing kisses to their forehead. âyouâre safe, whumpee, youâre in the hospital. itâs all okay. youâre safe now.â
maybe whumpeeâs bleeding has finally stopped. caretaker leans back on their haunches, exhausted, hands bloodstained. âi think itâs over,â they tell whumpee with a soft smile, tucking whumpeeâs hair behind their ear. âlook at that, i think youâre gonna be just fine.â
maybe whumpee has just been removed from a perilous situation. caretaker refuses to leave their sideâ hugging them close, rubbing their back. âiâm here, iâm here, whumpee. i wonât let anything hurt you again. you can rest now. youâre safe.â

Fever Comfort
Just some things a caregiver might do to make someone with a fever feel a little better. For when theyâre a bit uncomfortable and has a loving caretaker around.
IMPORTANT NOTE: This is not medical advice, but please use these in your sickfics because I love reading about them.
đ„¶ If theyâre cold and shivering:
Wrap a blanket around them. Maybe two!
Provide a hot water bottle or heated wheat pillow
Put the warmest, softest pair of woolly socks on their chilly feet
Tumble dry their pyjamas/dressing gown
Warm their icy hands between your own
Tuck them in nice and tight under the duvet
Wrap them up in several layers of clothing, especially if theyâre outside or need to go outdoors for whatever reason
Classic: Use body heat to help warm them up, get under the covers with them
Put them in an armchair close to a fireplace
đ„” If theyâre too hot:
Flip their pillow to the cool side
Open a window to let in fresh air
Put a fresh set of sheets on the bed
Provide a cold water bottle, or wheat pillow in the freezer
Help them into lighter clothing
We of course have the classic âwashcloth to fevered foreheadâ but also consider these areas to wipe down or place a cool cloth on for comfort:
Closed eyelids
Cheeks
Side or back of the neck
Chest
Wrists / hands / arms
Ankles / feet / legs
Yeah basically the whole body
đŁ If theyâre in pain:
Close the curtains to help with their headache and/or help them sleep
Make sure theyâre hydrated
Massage their achy muscles
Provide fever reducers / pain medication
Make them hot cups of tea to soothe their sore throat. Donât forget the honey!
Gently stroking fingertips up and down their arms / legs / back in a soothing fashion (think ASMR light touch tracing)
Holding them close, perhaps gently rocking back and forth, helping them fall asleep to aid their recovery
Those are the things I could think of for now. Please use these and/or expand the lists with your own suggestions đ
