• we can see your point about val only using alastor to tease vox. val certainly loves to press vox's buttons and work him up into a tizzy.

• also it occurs to us the idiot crime duo might upset vox most of all because they'd be ruining voxtek's reputation. that might be a meeting at hq that no one wants to attend. we imagine it would just be vox steadily growing more angry as elliot and val act flippant the whole time.

• teeth? Ha ha we are fascinated and slightly horrified by the idea of teeth. we would love to see it, whenever you are ready. we only had a vague (somewhat unclear) vision of hellverse!el anyway so we don't mind at all seeing your creativity.

• and as for whether or not el ever tells victor we have thought about it a lot. So far the answer is: yes and no. 😞 elliot sort of 'adopts' victor. the name vic uses at first with alastor, 'jonathan clark', is a play on an alias of elliot's: william clark.

under the guise of hiding from their father elliot (and victor) created new personas, and elliot changed their relationship. we imagine as victor grew older he might question 'why the change of brother to father' but it'd be awkward the whole time for sure.

(this is as far as our thoughts have taken us, sorry)

we too confess we spent more time than we originally meant to thinking about elliot as a character. originally he was supposed to be just a throw away meant to give poor victor a reason to leave home. so without further ado we (sheepishly) present a list of random headcanons we have.

• in the great war he was a sharpshooter (sniper) trained in france

• fluent in french and laughably terrible at german

• initially thought of victor as just a tool for revenge but eventually became fond and even possessive of him

• taught victor a variety of skills over the years, mostly to aid him with his crimes, such as driving, lockpicking, pickpocketing, and marksmanship

• easily distracted by blood

• loves poetry ✨️ the gallows by edward thomas / leda and the swan w.b. yates ✨️

• bisexual (but due to the mental gymnastics of 1900's culture he considers himself 💯% straight.)

•favorite crime is kidnapping the rich for ransom

• technophile

• bought victor his first typewriter

• hired thugs, at least once, to intimidate/beat up rival newspaper writers that "bullied" victor

• would vehemently deny any involvement in ⬆️

• when teen!victor began to ask questions about the "birds and bees" elliot panicked, explained very things badly, then took vic to a brothel and paid one of the women to "teach" victor

• (the woman probably took victor aside and just gave him a basic sex ed course and sent him back to elliot. neither of them spoke about it again)

• yes, victor really would be unsure if elliot was being serious or just hangry. Wouldn't be surprised if he tried that with alastor as well, just to make sure sometimes.

• we suppose it's better that elliot and val don't get along because if they did it would be 10 times as worse for vox. imagine those two trigger-happy idiots rubbing their two brain cells together and forming a thought! or worse a team-up to go after alastor -- the enemy of my enemy style.

• trust us, it's entirely fine on elliot's to not give him a traditional mouth. we imagine he is like vox in the sense that he is more talk than anything else. he would probably shoot his shot thinking he'd definitely fail and mimzy wouldn't be into him. he'd be throughly confused if she reacted positively.

your art is just perfect, whether intentional or not it looks like a bishop's hook which was definitely the style at the time in new york.

we are quite stuck calling it headcanon even if it's just canon. but we see your point 😅 !

• calling elliot a softy is funny to us. but yes, he's pretty tsundere so we suppose it fits. but he has a reputation to defend (like victor, because it totally runs in the family). we can see this being where victor learned to dodge his feelings so well...

• oh the poetry! we have a weakness for poetry beware 😖

• as for the gallows we imagine he likes the morbid imagery first off. the keeper stings up the animals as a warning to other animals to keep in line. and generally speaking elliot doesn't want to behave so he'd feel more kinship with the hung animals. a sort of rebellion thing. (the poet was really relaying a story his daughter[?] told him about a grounds keeper and was fascinated by the casual cruety of it, I think)

• leda and the swan. maybe loss of control (in leda's case bodily autonomy) at the hands of someone more powerful (even in disguise). but the last stanza is questioning that maybe leda gained her own power/knowledge siphoned off from zeus and maybe (kind of) became more powerful because of it. (so daddy issues for elliot I guess)

• kidnapping for ransom. yes because of being disowned, you're spot on there. he'd kidnap some rich guy's son or daughter for random and think he was doing them a favor. "giving them a dose of the real world" but let's be serious he'd be doing it out of bitterness. set the random money steep and taunt his victims if/when their parents didn't pay.

• ngl elliot is on the dumb side in some regards. victor probably realised this about age 15 and kind of realised he could manipulate elliot's decisions and plans subtly. (kind of like vox does to val.) hell, victor might have saved his brother from jail time by talking him away from some of his worst schemes lol

in our head we picture victor taking elliot to the pharmacy for a soda as a distraction. getting him a nice lithium water or soda. "you don't really want to rob an armored bank truck, el. you're just thirsty."

• as for lux/elliot fighting alastor and valentino it'd be a mess for sure. it is hard for us to say but we think val might be more reserved about fighting elliot because of not wanting to piss off his business partner/boyfriend. but he'd probably fight him anyway until vox came to break it up.

(edit: that's not to say we think val would pull his punches. but that he'd be more confused to why it was happening in the first place)

alastor would be like: "oh look it's another emotionally constipated idiot with electric powers yelling obscenities at me. guess I'll taunt him until he implodes like the other one."

(it's hard to say how the fight would end mostly because alastor would only end it on his own advantage. strike a deal maybe?)

• flirting with mimzy (aka molly) would happen instantly upon meeting her. we could see him throwing out some cheesy line like: "hey, darling, have you ever tried pole sitting because I've got the perfect place for you to practice." and point to his head.

(pole sitting was a pastime popular in the 20s, btw it reminds us of planking. people sat on top of poles for hours and days to beat each other's records)

we don't know if mimzy would find it charming, corny or creepy. but he'd keep it up for as long as she allowed especially if he thought he'd get some attention.

they could cause trouble for the hotel and hell in general together. vox and al could trauma bond over it.

Exquisite Corpse, or a Writer's Block

An (uninteresting?) ramble about our two-month hiatus.

A.K.A. That time We nearly Littered and Yeeted a Book From Our Car on the Highway.

It was around the time we were writing chapter seven in Ophidia in Herba that we visited a book store. We read often at work, they forbid us from using electronics so we are forced to kill trees by way of buying more paper books. Anyways, we were picking up random novels and reading the back. And we found an interesting one called EXQUISITE CORPSE by Poppy Z Brite. Written in the 90's the novel said it was about a serial killer and took place in the 80's or early 90's. Sounded fun!

We bought it and kept it on the shelf for a bit but didn't read it right away. But one day we decided it was time! We took it to work and started to read the book. And instantly had to stop again.

The novel had several eerie similarities to Ophidia in Herba. So much so we went home and checked our old books and our .doc list of books we'd already read.

The book takes place in New Orleans. The book is about a serial killer meeting another serial killer. One killer is a cannibal (but the other a necrophilac). A third character takes the name Lush Rimbaud as an alias (a dig at Rush Limbaugh, I believe.) And tons of other minor details.

We were immediately angry. How could we have made something so similar even if we'd never meant to? For a long time we didn't finish the novel. But once we finally did it was like we conquered it. We found things we did and didn't like about the novel. At first we had a very hard time justifying that our coincidences didn't mean we weren't creative. (If that makes sense.)

All in all we are glad that on our way home the first day we didn't throw it our the window on the highway and scream about it for the next 15 minute drive home.

But it did take an extra long time for us to write more. We felt demoralized. And ended up writing 20,000 words and trashing them because we hated them.

We think we're going to be okay now, though. As long as we don't find anymore novels so close to our fic. (Nervous laughter.)

On a personal note: We live! After a nearly month hiatus. We apologize for the delay. Our entire work schedule has changed and it especially goes nuts when we have holidays in the middle of the week. Last week we worked every other day the entire week. (We work 12hour shifts so, yea! We just slept!) Thank you for your patience 🙏! Alastor chapters are easier to write usually so we hope next chapter comes quicker.
