a folie a dupe strip i drew about a month ago of thoughts i’ve been having about gender since going back on testosterone and having top surgery. in reality, i’ve been interpreted as male since i was a teenager, but it has become much more aggressive and reliable since gaining weight a few years ago, only exacerbated by medical transition. i have to navigate the world differently now. what the comic does not address at all is being interpreted as, seemingly at random, a woman or a man, which complicates an already murky and loaded set of ethical and social dilemmas. i tend to focus on thinking about transition and dressing masculinely in general because these are “choices” instead of circumstances. i also tend to focus on behaviors and feelings i can’t, or don’t want to, let go, because i often define this as a core personality, and surely the fear, expectation, and revulsion of gendered violence is a core part of my being. still, for some questions, it’s better not to try to answer them at all.
