twin prides stans are delusional. The "play fight" that had WWX "stuffing his intestines back into himself"? The "play fight" after which jiang cheng called WWX the “enemy to the entire cultivation world? The "play fight" that was necessary bc jc didn't open his mouth to talk about what he owed the Wen siblings and instead of repaying this life debt offered to chop up Wen Ning if WWX wasn't gonna do it? The "play fight" that jc asked for when he left WWX no recourse to help the Wens but to defect and threw all his mother's venomous words at him?
YanLi and jc sneak in so she can show off the wedding dress that she's marrying- the dude whose family wants to kill WWX- in and hand him a lousy bowl of soup! omg so endearing! Look how much they care! lol k

reminder that wei wuxian was never adopted to the jiang family, he was never a part of the family and their dynamic with jiang cheng wasn't a 'sibling dynamic' but a master/servant one and even wei wuxian accepts that he was a servant of the household.
1. Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian in the book never address each other in intimate ways ‘A-Cheng’ or ‘A-Xian’ ; they never call each other brothers too. On the contrary Jiang Cheng accepts that Wei Wuxian is a servant and they are his master.
Tumblr media
2. Madam Yu sees Wei Wuxian as a servant and makes it very clear. She even berates Jiang Yanli for peeling lotus seeds for Wei Wuxian despite being her master.
“Servants should be what servants ought to be.”
Tumblr media
3. Wei Wuxian too knows his position in the Jiang household. In the novel we first learn that servants of the Jiang Clan serve a little different than the normal servants:
Tumblr media
Later in the extras Wei Wuxian recognizes this. Mind it, he doesn’t refuse being called ‘a servant’ but he corrects what kind of a servant he was. He says the same thing YinZhu (servant of Madam Yu) said above: “Lotus Pier is not the usual household, after all.” He doesn’t refuse that he’s implied to be a servant to the Jiangs. He also accepts Lan Wangji’s comfort afterwards.
Tumblr media
4. There is a whole chapter explaining Wei Wuxian’s dynamic with the Jiang family through a much smaller story. This story is meant to be a parallel.
Tumblr media
This paragraph resembles Wei Wuxian’s own position a lot. He is taken into Jiangs as a servant: same age around Jiang Cheng. The grandmother is Jiang Fengmian. Later Jiang Fengmian even sends Wei Wuxian to Cloud Recesses lectures where only young master from sects/heirs go:
Tumblr media
The text specifically points out that Wei Wuxian was able to make friends because youths weren’t concerned with status and ancestry as elders. So despite his status Wei Wuxian was taken to the lectures full of young masters of the sects. When the youths are not youths anymore and status and ancestry gain importance once more out of the school years Wei Wuxian is scorned and called arrogant for daring to being more powerful than anyone despite being ‘a servant’s son’. Also “In fact the sect leader regarded him as his own child” is a wrong statement as we readers learn later in the novel where Jiang Fengmian sends Wei Wuxian to the indoctrination despite he doesn’t have to; or when for his last words he tells Wei Wuxian to protect Jiang Cheng and nothing more:
Tumblr media
Jiang Fengmian doesn’t refuse the word servant either:
(and also sends Wei Wuxian to the indoctrination despite the dangers. Which father send their child to a life threatening environment if they don’t have to?”)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end, I’m really tired of seeing Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng treated as sibling-brothers. Because they were not. Even their most intimate scene is about Wei Wuxian promising to be Jiang Cheng’s subordinate.
Does this misconception come from the live drama? The english subtitles in the CQL (idk if the drama itself does it too) make them call each other ‘brothers’. But that isn’t correct at all according to the novel and a huge mischaracterisation on Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian’s part. Also CQL sometimes treat them as equals as kneeling in the ancestral hall together for punishment which is also very mischaracterising because it’s a huge mischaracterisation on Madam Yu’s part.
Bonus: Jiang Cheng saying nothing to refute in a room with more than one people trying to scorn Wei Wuxian for being a servant:
“Taking this opportunity, Jin GuangShan spoke, “Sect Leader Jiang, this was supposed to be a matter of your sect. It wouldn’t have been appropriate for me to barge in. But now that things are like this, I’ll have to caution you on the topic of Wei Ying.”
Jiang Cheng, “Sect Leader Jin, go ahead.”
Jin GuangShan, “Sect Leader Jiang, Wei Ying is your right-hand man. You value him a lot. All of us know this. However, on the other hand, it’s hard to tell whether or not he actually respects you. In any case, I’ve been a sect leader for so many years and I’ve never seen the servant of any sect dare be so arrogant, so proud.”
“One of the sect leaders added, “To be honest, I’ve wanted to say this since a long time ago. Although Wei WuXian did a few things during the Sunshot Campaign, there are many guest cultivators who did more than him. I’ve never seen anyone as full of themselves as him. Excuse my bluntness, but he’s the son of a servant. How could the son of a servant be so arrogant?”

would love to see the juniors like forgetting that fun times senior wei who is hanguang-jun’s precious wifey is also the yiling patriarch who can absolutely fuck shit up
like some bad guy wants to eat their bones or something and they’re all tied up including wei wuxian (he’s giving them the opportunity to learn and sometimes you gotta learn what to do when you’re tied up)
and all the juniors just forget wei wuxian is in fact VERY STRONG and are thinking “we must protect our beloved senior!” because they’re all very good boys
right up until the big bad actually decides to eat one of them first and wei wuxian just like whistles the him into a pile of so much goo for threatening his kids doesn’t even bother escaping first to do it
then they’re sitting there like “oh… right”
and lan wangji arrives to wei wuxian crying that his wrists are chafing that hanguang-jun absolutely must untie him before he faints from discomfort (literally none of this had to happen but the children learned a valuable lesson and lan wangji is now thinking about better ways to tie wei wuxian up)

Thinking about how Lan Xichen tells WWX that Wangji’s complicated feelings for him are mirrored by how he felt regarding their mother, but doesn’t seem to realize that his own feelings for JGY are equally shaped and mirrored by his feelings regarding their mother!
Like, he looks at his brother and sees that stubborn, unyielding love and is like ‘ah yes i recognize this’ but he cannot see in himself that his lack of desire to know the details of his mother’s crime are exactly like his reluctance to look at JGY’s actions with any real scrutiny.
because lwj has had to grapple with “what if the person you love did something unforgivable?” and made his choice, but xichen has been studiously avoiding thinking about that question at all for his entire life.  lan xichen wants to give everyone the benefit of the doubt!  he wants to believe the best of everybody!  and sometimes that means deliberately not asking the questions he really should ask, because if he did he’d have to hear the answers!
he knows his mother Did a Murder.  If he asks why, and finds out her reason, then he has to decide, is that a good enough reason?  And if it wasn’t, if the reason was just, like, he annoyed her and she lost her temper, then he has to deal with reconciling his memory of his sweet, kind, loving mother with the knowledge that she did something morally reprehensible and completely unjustified.  but if it was a good reason, if for example the teacher had attempted to assault her and she was defending herself?  well, then she’s vindicated but the rest of his clan is implicated.  now he has to deal with the knowledge that her punishment was absolutely unjust and that all her suffering (and his, and his father’s, and his brother’s) was a terrible injustice perpetrated by his family!  now he’ll have to look at his clan’s elders, who he is supposed to respect, and know that they did something inexcusable to a woman who didn’t deserve it!
by not asking the question, he maintains a state of shroedinger’s-cat-like paradoxical neutrality - he can assume the best of both his mother and his clan.
Likewise, he has carefully maintained a neutral state regarding his sworn brothers, trying to make peace between them and assume only the best of each of them, because if he looks too closely, then either NMJ is right, and JGY is a bad and untrustworthy person, or JGY is right, and NMJ is being cruel and unjust.  as long as he doesn’t actually look directly at the conflict, he can continue to pretend it is just a troublesome personality clash instead of a fundamental and irreconcilable difference of worldview in which he might have to make some kind of moral judgement call!

Married at last!!
This is a silly little comic I drew recently for a wedding-themed event my friend @ganen-cheese and I did together! While our pieces are technically unrelated, I hope everyone will go check out their beautiful comic which is about WX's first morning as husbands! I say this, but honestly I expect everyone has already seen their comic first haha! But no seriously, Cheese's comic is really so sweet and so full of love and I feel it makes a really good followup to this one (even though technically unrelated!!) so I want everyone who reads my silly little comic to go read theirs too! ❤️ (The wedding outfits I've drawn here are based on another one of Cheese's illustrations which you can see here! My eyes were blessed with such beautiful reference while drawing HAHA.)
