I never shared this, but at the start of the year I commissioned the lovely @aahzrukhals to draw DexNursey as I pictured them in my fic, these eyes will not be blinded by the lights! The story is 32k, rated PG-13 and one of my personal favourites.

Years later, during a lazy saturday morning where neither of them can be bothered to do anything except ransack the kitchen for snacks, Nursey will ask him, “Why the guitar?��

Dex shrugged. “It’s not like the only secondhand shop in a small town in Maine had a lot of variety to offer.”

An AU where everything is the same except Dex can play the guitar and sing, but you wouldn’t know it since Dex is emotionally stunted and can’t, like, just admit that type of shit out loud.

What are ur favorite nurseydex fics? I’m kind of new to the fandom!

oh man oh man this is gonna get long i have so many favorites i’m so sorry this is gonna be like. just a list of every fic i’ve ever read EVER.

all hail the underdogs by xiaq; god. this fic. this one is probably obvious, but it must be included. it took a long time for me to get around to reading this, because i knew it was the kind of fic that was going to ruin me and haunt me until it concluded, and i was right. this is one to read if you have time to settle in for a while then spend the next two hours of your life reflecting feeling melancholy and aching for something you can’t describe.

already won me over by shellybelle; okay like i can’t even lie this is one of my favorite fics ever written. i relate to dex hard because i, too, have caused myself embarrassing injury instead of processing emotions like a normal human. i get so giddy every time i think of this fic. the characterizations in this one are just. SO GOOD. i reread more often than i care to admit.

continental drift by tiptoe39; listen. listen. i’m a poetry hoe enough as it is, so by the time this fic was concluding i was literally screaming at the way everything tied together. it’s just *chefs kiss* good fuckin content. nursey being on-the-low oblivious and dex happily letting nursey do whatever he asks. GOOD CONTENT.

enough for the both of us (orphaned); there was bound to be one or twelve angsty fics on this list and this one. t h i s  o n e. i ached for them both. the emotion in this one is literally palpable, in the best palpable way. by the time derek and will meet their ending, it felt like the kind of catharsis that comes after a good cry. like when u know ur Healing. you know? YOU KNOW ?

honeys who makin’ money by miastree; okay quite literally i could recommend everything mia has ever written because there’s something about her fics that are just. magical but. FOR THIS ONE. i probably read this thing at least three times a month and i’m not even gonna act like i don’t. this one is great for a feel-good, giddy, can’t-stop-smiling read. like. i yell EVERY time i get to the part that they kiss i’m not gonna lie. PERFECTION.

in so many words by alocalband; one of my all-time favorite tags on ao3 is derek “nursey” nurse is unchill and this fic is one of my FAVORITES. there’s a layer of secondhand embarrassment in this that makes it so compelling and you spend the entire thing just being like. DEREK. STOP. HONEY. both of them are so oblivious AND OBVIOUS and it’s the best combo and have i mentioned I LOVE ERIC BITTLE. 

not your boyfriend by emmagrant01; u know how sometimes you go on Bro Dates with your best friend and your other best friend and his girlfriend and then the girlfriend mentions how cute you and your bro are and you’re like “haha What Are You Talking About” then you realize all the flirting you’ve been doing is so not buddies? aka one of the BEST TROPES EVER? 10/10.

stones through stained glass windows by miastree; it was inevitable that another one of mia’s fics was going to end up on this list. this is another one of those fics that i had in an open tab for a long time before i got around to reading it. this fic felt like being carved open and seeing all these feelings i’d been harboring laid down and exposed on an examination table. i could go on and on about how the things dex feels in this fic are eerily similar to my own life but it would honestly just be me quoting paragraphs of text from the fic. this is the kind of writing that sticks with you for a long time after you read it, and it’s beautiful. 

the absolute yearning of one human body for another human body by winchysteria; MORE POETIC STUFF THAT MAKES ME CRY!! this one is short and sweet and beautiful. i love fics that capture really specific feelings and this one captures “summer night when the sun is setting and the air is kind of sticky but you feel bigger than the world and if someone asked you to define summer this is what you would say”. EXCELLENT.

petals and thorns series by rhysiana; oh my god oh my god ohmy god oyhgmod OHGMYOD. this series is delightful and fresh and lovely and i literally cried like three different times while reading it. i stumbled across this series after seeing fanart for the first part and then i greedily read the rest of the series then waited about six hours before pulling it up and reading it again.

the sun in its forest by laratoncita; i could write sonnets about how much i love this fic. i love the format of it and i love that it works backwards and i love seeing this exploration of derek’s emotions. there’s something about the reverse chronology that makes each preceding scene even more lovely. this is a fic i’ve returned to multiple times to reread.

trust me, mine is better by somehowunbroken; you guys william j poindexter is so fucking dumb askjsdlkjlkd i love him so much. this fic is AMAZING because it has a) a stellar playlist to accompany it, b) oblivious dex, and c) OBVIOUS DEREK. also dex’s characterization in this: MAGNIFIQUE.

turns me to gold by playingforkeeps; i love william “i’m so good at pretending i don’t have feelings so i’m gonna ask my crush to write poetry about me that seems smart” poindexter and derek “hm what could possibly go wrong with writing poetry about my crush because he asked me to oh shit oh fuck i have feelings” nurse. this fic is SO GOOD, it’s paced really well and has an EXCELLENT characterization of chowder that i adore. just. excellent writing overall honestly.

this has already gotten way longer than i intended it to be so i’ll end it there but. tldr i love them so much and i have so many fics i wish i could hype up but sldkjldjklsf
