MOKA REDESIGN BY DAVID CHIPPERFIELD
Original Moka Pot was developed in 1931 by the Luigi di Ponti. The patent was then bought by the Italian Engineer Alfonso Bialetti and from that time it has turned into an icon in design and in coffee world. Almost 90 years after that the designer David Chipperfield decided redesign it for Alessi.

This new product is an upgrade to the original one. Many details still similar to the original one: the material is die-cast aluminum, the side faces of the pot are faceted. However, some details have changed, with a more simplistic and contemporary approach. One of the most visible changes is the handle, much more geometric and simple.

The designer however didn't want to change too much the image of the pot. He refers that he wanted to maintain the "familiar and generic" feeling attached to it. He also refers "The fact is, the Moka left its mark on the public, especially but not only in Italy, an effect that still lasts today,".
Moka Coffee Making Process The Process is pretty simple, but still artisanal. Water is boiled in the under reservoir. When heated the pressure from the steam forces the water to climb through ground coffee, located between the two reservoirs, ending in the top one ready to be served.

This redesign have already been revealed in the Maison&Object fair in Paris and in this days they are officially launching it in the Milan Design Week (9 to 14 April 2019).

Lan Chair by Iratzoki & Lizaso Studio
Lan chair is an office chair developed by iratzoki & lizaso studio for Alki that will be exposed in Milan Design Week 2019 (which will take place in 2 weeks).
vimeo
The authors wanted to change the feeling that a typical office chair give to its users - “we noticed that more and more people around us had less and less esteem for office chairs. the aesthetic codes for these chairs more closely resemble an ‘orthopaedic’ tool than a cherished work companion. moreover, most of the adjustment devices are only used very rarely. if, on top of that, one considers that in a good many cases, office chairs frequently change users, it seemed an interesting idea to get rid of its superfluous functions”

Peel Saver by Simone Caronni, Paolo Stefano Gentile and Pietro Gaeli
Peel Saver is a project developed by Simone Caronni, Paolo Stefano Gentile and Pietro Gaeli. This proposal promote the reutilization of the potato peel, usually wasted, turning it in the packaging of the fries.

The project surged after the designers realising the quantity of the material wasted because of not using the potato peel.
The conection between fiber and starch give the perfect combination for the solidity of the product. In other prespective, it become biodegradable, something very important for products that have a lifetime so short.

Move by LAYER for Airbus
LAYER, the studio headed by Benjamim Hubert collaborated with Airbus to develop Move, a project to redesign economy class airline seating. Being one of the most criticized aspects of this typology of traveling it is an intelligent move from both companies.

The prototype consists not only on a seating but also in an app to control it. The seating consists of a frame of aircraft grade aluminum and carbon fiber for low weight covered in a polyester/wool blend fabric digitally knitted. Under the fabric, the cushion density is customizable during the flight to adapt to the passenger position and promote comfort to them.
