Listen, I've read this story like 10 times already and I absolutely adore it. The way you write characters is honestly lovely. Super fun and interesting spin on them. The werewolf idea for the hound!? Genius! I love it. Just. So cool ^^

I had to ask if you are planning to continue writing it?

okay, this blog has been inactive for a while and i haven't update des docs in probably over a year, so i do want to clear the air. my answer: maybe????

i started writing des docs when i was fourteen and. well i think it shows. there's a lot of plot holes that keep me up at night, story beats i would alter, whole characters and plot points i would change or cut (for example, if i were to start fresh, i would probably make lucy a wholly original character, since she strays so far from the musical). overall, i am proud of the work that i've done, i don't think i would have the skill that i do as a writer without this project. and i'm glad folks like you and others have enjoyed what i've created and think my own takes on these characters that have been done again and again are still compelling. it genuinely means a lot to me. and i do miss des docs, a lot!!!!!

so as it stands, i really have no idea what i want to do with it going forward. that's an unsatisfactory answer, i know, but it's the truth. i intended to finish it before i got into college, and i'm now in my second year, so. lol.

if i were to start des docs fresh, while preserving the original version on ao3, would that be something people would be interested in? there is certainly more story to tell, with a definite ending in mind, but a large part of me wants to refine what already exists.

but in the end, thank you to everyone who ever read desperate doctors and enjoyed it. this goofy lil monster mash still means the world to me, and i'm glad it can me something to other people too.

Will we ever get that Des Docs victorian christmas special?

i can’t believe people remember that, let alone still want it.

short answer: uUhhh maybe???

long answer: well, still maybe. when i first envisioned it in my Mind Palace, i got too caught up in the semantics of how it would fit in The Canon or what the plot would beyond the gang saves christmas to actually ever sit down and write the damn thing. and now, as time has past and the story has evolved i don’t know if i would still do the original plot i had in mind?? it originally would have involved santa (and krampus as well iirc) but now i feel Christmas Ghosts would be more fitting and more fun. so not this year, but maybe one in the future.

but rest assured, in some bubble of pleasantness that exists in a nebulous spot within The Canon, the dramatis personae are enjoying the holiday festivities (though 3 out of 5 of them are very likely on the naughty list). exchanging gifts and telling stories by the roaring fire in the parlour over mulled wine and hot tea. jekyll bakes cookies, gingerbread and lavender, they’re not perfect but, of course, those are the best kind. christmas the only time of year he’s allowed in kitchen, anything else is quite disastrous. lucy’s using her artist’s eye to trim the tree, and victor’s reading a christmas carol with adam. when jekyll “retires” for the evening, hyde tries to convince everyone into a game of snap-dragon, but you can imagined that it’s rather ill-advised. there’s at least one moment where he and lucy steal off to wherever the mistletoe’s been hung (to victor’s eye-rolling, she’s already done that tonight with jekyll). and the next morning, after they all have their long winter’s nap with visions of sugarplums and whatnot, there’s a few more presents under the tree, one for each of them, and no one can say exactly where or who they came from.

I filmy believe that If Erik meets Lucy and Jekyll in person, he will be absolutely bewildered that they aren't actually a couple. Not only these two have a very obvious something going on between their awkwardness, but also he is obsessed with love. It would be even worse if he finds out it's a Beauty and The Beast dynamic.

erik gets So Obscenely Mad with jekyll not making a move on the woman who a. is the love of his life and b. he has not completely blown it with yet, that he drops all of his Phantom Related Shenanigans to play matchmaker with them.
