EDWARD'S STORY

As you know by now, Rudy caught up with Edward Hopper after Edward inadvertently passing the Scampering Test, making him an official rabbit. Back at Rudy and Fiona’s place he came clean about how he got there.

It was all my doing. I’d trapped a gang of coyotes in The Rabbit Warren, hoping just to teach them a lesson. It’s true that they’d intended to kill Bruno (which Edward confirmed) but I didn’t think the rest of them would end up dead.

Unfortunately the other coyotes attempted an over-confident frontal assault on the rabbits’ defenses instead of using the subterfuge I’d provided. It was over very quickly for them. I asked Gran about it, and she looked up the records from that night. It happened just the way Edward said, except no one knew that one coyote went into hiding. Edward had never bought into the gang’s villainy and was there only due to being bullied into it.

I still feel bad. As terrible as those other coyotes were, I didn’t want to give them a death sentence. It’s something I’ll always feel responsible for.
