Instructor Infinite x Izuku Phantom
All Might's personal apprentice being the perfect stealth/ambush hero caused some major whiplash.
Very different aesthetics

Support Bakugo AU: I know this was 2 years ago, but I'm curious about the 'Bakugou gets derided for the crowd for being in Support and Yamada speaks up on his behalf' on the initial Ask Game post.
Would love to get some more details on when exactly this happened and what exactly was said
Bakugou has a traditionally Heroic Quirk, the kind that gets you praised and fawned over by sycophantic adults. People in the crowd would be mad that he's not in the Hero course.

Underground Todoroki AU: What’s Shoto's relationship with Rei like?
Currently betting on 'has been regularly visiting her since before starting UA'
I think it's actually pretty similar to canon

Phantasm AU
What is the wider public’s reaction to Izuku getting thrown into Tartarus without a trial? Because while it’s good and all when the threat of Phantasm being vanquished is some horrible and nebulous villain being locked away, but it’s a lot harder to reconcile when there’s a face to the picture and it’s of a teenager who has only ever used the quirk for vigilantism.
On a related note, does the HPSC completely doxx Izuku once they’ve arrested him? Just go “We’ve captured and containe the threat of Phantasm, it’s this kid, he goes to this school, and this is his family. We’ve won and will keep him locked up forever where no one can get him.” Enter Star and Stripe. It would be an excellent first meeting if she rescued Inko from people harrassing her for being a “villain’s mother”.
I don't think the HPSC would dox him because of how public reaction is shifting in his favor; they want him as dehumanized as possible in the eyes of the media.
However, Midoriya does not actually get to Tartarus, thanks to Star's intervention.

What is the international reaction to the whole Nagant debacle? Or is Cathleen trying to cover it up?
Cathleen covers that up and then the HPSC has an unfortunate All Might related incident so it becomes a moot point

Basislk AU (The one where Mongoose Habuko M has one for all) You’ve covered the USJ, but what happens during the sports festival, and does Todoroki still acuse Habuko of being All Might’s secret love child? How does she react to Shinsou and 1-Bs declaration of war?
Mongoose and Asui would pretty thoroughly dominate the race. I don't know where Midoriya would be, specifically, but pretty high up there.
The trio team up for the Cavalry Battle, plus Tokoyami. I don't think Todoroki's team would change--especially since his cold would be effective against Mongoose--so that's the same. I've left in Bakugou's team for reasons I'll get to later. As for our last team, it's Hagakure, teaming up with Uraraka, Jiro, and Hatsume to run a defensive strategy.
I'm only covering the matches I think will be majorly relevant here to keep down my workload.
Asui and Midoriya face off round one, but Asui is better trained.
Hatsume does her thing with Mongoose, letting her proceed for free while also forcing her to deal with her anxiety live on stage.
Shoji beats Yaoyorozu as she is at this point.
In round two, Asui's greater mobility and range helps her beat Iida.
Mongoose and Ashido face off. I wanted this to happen because, as mentioned in the initial post, I want Mongoose to have the snake tail instead of legs, and that added flexibility will pair well with Ashido's dancer moves and general acrobatics.
Since Todoroki hasn't gotten any kind of It's Your Power speech, he has no internal conflict of emotions to stop him from beating Bakugou, especially early in the tournament before he's totally frozen himself and run out of steam.
Mongoose beats Asui and Tokoyami beats the still ice-only Todoroki to meet in the finals, where Mongoose wins.

Quirkier: How is Midoriya handling his newly enhanced hearing and vision?
The hearing thing was actually easier for him because that's mostly the same as it was before, but better. It's easier to adjust to that than accidentally switching into Thermal Mode all the time.

Something easily missed by non-Japanese MHA fans is the sheer importance of Ochako being in the raid against the Shie Hassaikai... Because once upon a time, SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE OTHER SIDE. In Japan, construction businesses are either controlled by the Yakuza or outright the legal fronts for minor clans... But between Quirks, All for One, and All Might, the Yakuza has been almost entirely dismantled.
Though now I wonder what happened to the Yamaguchi Gumi, they are not only one of the biggest groups but outright MADE modern Yakuza (before Taoka Kazuo, the Yakuza were just small criminal organizations. Then he was made the boss of Yamaguchi Gumi... And aside for making his group the biggest in Japan, he was the one that had the Yakuza establish legitimate fronts and even outright invented Yakuza movies, acting as a paid consultant for many).
Presumably, MHA would've had some kind of fictional equivalent instead of a real historical figure(s).

What is the toughest case Inko ever worked on?
It might be interesting to tie her into Vigilantes somehow. As well as thematically appropriate

Saiyan: With all that angst piled on Ashido, how about I suggest some fluff with Eri? 1: Eri playing with and shaping Ashido's arm/tail like playdough. 2: Ashido making herself kid-sized and making up for the missed childhood. 3: The two of them being each other's emotional support whenever they visit Recovery Girl.
Ashido and Eri have a lot to bond over in this au

So, that Otr chapter really wore its inspiration on its sleeve, huh?
Not that I'm complaining, I love me a good USJ homage, and this one goes hard!
This is more stream of consciousness than any formal analysis.
There's a lot going on in Chapter 12
So far every single chapter of Otr at least alludes to if not outright discusses philosophy on dying. This chapter opens with it, and the mutual respect between Otr and Bladehorn Suruld. That alone is interesting since this usually occurs much later in the chapter, but since we're in the denomount of that fight, it works out well to put it here, and because it's the bait and switch.
Spirithorn Cholerio emerging from the ice with their monster Mockle, mockingly applauding Suruld, completely diverts the scene in more ways than one. Cholerio is dressed in almost all black, a color that the manga has up until now associated with the protagonists (Otr's flames are drawn in black, as is Etupirko, causing her to resemble Otr's flames when she's moving at speed), as well as Sixten's black cloak. Even Mockle's darker palette is concealed under the white layer of ice on top of it, further showing the contrast that has up until now been on the protagonist's side.
I'm glad Mockle is here. I wondered when Otr started how the author would handle including fucked up monsters, because the absolute most memorable part of Hunter's Guild Red Hood is that those werewolves are seriously fucked up. Obviously the first chapter had some fucked up monsters, but like, goddamn. There you are, Kawaguchi. I missed you.
And then Cholerio starts kicking and insulting her downed comrade, a complete inversion of Suruld's honorable personality. This quickly establishes quite a lot about Cholerio that will be important when that abruptly stops later this same chapter.
Mockle losing its limbs and viscerally regenerating them while kicking the shit out of Otr is pretty similar to the USJ attack from My Hero Academia, as is the sudden unexpected arrival of the World's Strongest Man, who immediately rescues someone so fast that he moves between panels and promptly overwhelms the enemy with his raw power. Hell, Sixten only being distracted for three days could even be a joke about All Might's three hour limits. But the similarities end there.
Mockle can talk. And not only that, they're some kind of sensor.
Cholerio's main role in this fight is as a support caster to back up Mockle rather than appearing dangerous in their own right. But there's definitely some Shigaraki in there, in how they spend the entire chapter being cocky and petty, right up until they're mocking Otr for being nothing more than a child... and realizing how dangerous Otr really is and how bad it is to underestimate him. And their demeanor completely shifts as they attempt to strangle him to death. (Again, no offensive ability?)
When Sixten arrives, Cholerio immediately realizes that Mockle stands no chance before blows even start and switches tactics to hostages, clearly scared as hell of Sixten. Another total shift from before, and completely unlike Shigaraki's unwavering childish arrogance. And that fear is justified when Sixten promptly drives her into the ground in one punch.
But what I find most interesting about this chapter and how it's different from the USJ is Cholerio and Mockle are here for a very different contextual role. To be honest, nothing they throw at the protagonists is all that much yet. Where the USJ demonstrated the kind of danger the kids were in and how much further they had to go, if Otr was at full strength, he and Etupirko could probably beat them pretty soundly. They're only a threat here because they showed up at the end. But, more than that, they're here to give our Heroes a new goal.
Get to the spirits before the Ice Kingdom does.
Last chapter, Otr wielded two spirits. At the time I didn't think anything of it, since they're in the iron spirit's forge. But then Mockle directly compared Fylgia with the iron spirit. I think Otr's going to be partnering with a lot more spirits by the end of this.

So, since it has been a while, have any new fanfic recommendations for us, either MHA or otherwise?
VampireBadger has a number of excellent Metaphor Refantazio fics, however, all of them are based around a big late-game twist so I can't even summarize them without a major spoiler.
They are also one of the two writers collaborating on the Adrift series, alongside SuperShiro, in which Link + Zelda end up in Tokyo for Persona 5, Joker ends up in Euchronia for Metaphor Refantazio, and Will + the Prince end up in Hyrule for Tears of the Kingdom.
One Over One by Rho_Z give Midoriya a Quirk that lets him take over the body of whoever kills him. Which he discovers when he attempts to rescue Eri in Middle School and gets .
