i dont think vash has ever sincerely felt like his brother is going to abandon him. hurt him, yes, and make his life miserable, and make everyone else's lives miserable to hurt him, but - the very second vash decides to go back knives WILL be there and vash has always known this.

it's a terrible gift, but what a gift! to know that when you have fallen as far as you can fall, when every door has shut and every river dried up, your brother will still be there. he will still be waiting. he will still take you back.

and how does that FEEL, vash? to know that someone would burn down the world for each scratch it's ever left on you? terrifying, yes, but also good? just a little bit like - security, right? safety? love?

horrible, nauseating, upsetting love. exhausting, unconditional, sightless love.

but knives has been abandoned by his brother countless times.
