And if I can figure out what’s behind it…” Trailing off, Moon’s words from the previous night echoed in his mind: These are fates you cannot hope to change… But whose fates: the children’s? The animatronics? His own? “Maybe I can help.”

Freddy looked back to him, his gaze lingering on Dib with an unreadable expression. “I believe you have good intentions. But it is not safe for you to be here. There are far too many -“

He stopped, eyes going wide. In one smooth stride, he moved closer - a little too far into Dib’s space for his liking - and reached for Dib’s neck.

“A Level 12 security pass?” He turned the card around, tilting his head with a soft mechanical whirr. “How did you get this?”

“I…don’t know! I woke up with it!” Dib tensed as Freddy’s claws trailed over the strap of the lanyard, acutely aware of how easy it would probably be to rip his throat out. But the touch was surprisingly gentle as if he was handling something delicate and breakable. “Sunny must have given it to me, or Moon, after he…”

“You saw Moon?” Freddy’s eyebrows shot up as he let the lanyard slip from his claws, a look Dib wasn’t sure whether to interpret as impressed or suspicious. “And still you came back. That is a…bold choice.”
