Progged the first extreme trial with a couple friends in party finder.
Found a samurai that didn’t want to use LB3.
According to them it’s “not optimal” for melee to use it in prog. In prog, specifically.
Well it’s also not optimal for the dps to fail every other mechanic but here we are, fam.
We cleared, eventually….without them.

I am mostly enjoying the new normie raid tier. Fun interesting mechanics. Stuff hits harder so I can gleefully optimize my resources to my heart’s content.
Until this week’s M4.
Party #1. Wipe almost immediately because none of the dps want to do mechanics or dodge anything.
Right.
Dragoon says FOOD CHECK
The dragoon that was on the floor the most.
Sigh.
It proceeded to be “one of those” raids where dps were dying left and right, the DRK MT wasn’t using TBN, me and the poor Astro were scrambling, and we just kept wiping. We could get a bit further each time- like people were behaving up until we reach the point we wiped the previous pull, and then they decided they were safe to go hog wild and screw the rules.
They were not safe. They did not screw the rules.
We finally got the boss to the about 10%ish range where they just spam the laser stack marker and it REQUIRES constantly sustain of some fashion. I would to stress again, that it has taken everything to get this banged up and bruised party to this point. It is not perfectly balanced. Thanos would be appalled.
The viper does the LB3.
Astro falls off the platform. I have no swift and no PoM. Still on CD from the last round of raising.
I’m already mostly spent on CDs but I try. I can’t out heal it alone from where we were at.
Healer LB3 would have been nice.
Fight resets. Everyone had been mostly quiet to this point, save for the Dragoon’s oh so insightful FOOD CHECK near the start. Someone says save the LB for the healers. MT says just do the mechanics. Someone else says why is our damage so low. Someone else, I thought we were killing it fast that time.
By the end, I was 5th in aggro. On white mage. I doubt we were killing it faster.
And then the vote abandon window comes up.
Yes. I want to leave.
Leave. Repair. Refresh the food. Requeue.
Get another party almost right away.
Wipe first pull. Okay.
Kill on second pull! Sweet, I’ll take that ALL DAY.
(Won the music hell yea)

My last roulette before DT was P10N.
Why was I, the healer-
Granted, a pretty buff healer, but a healer nonetheless-
The only one in the west tower stack
Why is the dps standing in the incredibly toxic green goo
Why did the other healer rescue me across the giant death donut
And once again, for the people in the back:
I will never apologize for using Healer LB3.
We will clear if we have to dps for ten more seconds.
We will not clear with 4 of you on the floor at the status quo
You are wrong and I can prove it mathematically.

I thought there was a healer strike or something (lol absolutely ridiculous imho). Are the tanks on strike?
I had an Eden’s Verse Fulmination where
When the big tower AoE little tower AoE happened
Both tanks stood in it
And hit the floor.
Every time.
One was attempting to move. Other absolutely was not.
My frustration was off the charts. My mana was also off the charts, but in the other direction.
So now I’m thinking (dangerous).
Why are the healer jobs tuned the way they are?
Because sometimes both tanks die repeatedly and you have to be able to adapt. As much as the game should be tuned for high end raiders that can do casual content with the immortal self healing tank and the dps res heal chain machine, it needs to be tuned just as much for my tanks on the floor for the fifth time saying “omg res” or my dps in Narnia shouting “UH HEALER I DIED” or healers that spam cure 3 on single target and then are surprised they have no mana.
Could we stand to have more dps? I wouldn’t complain about it. But with how my roulettes go, I love buttons that help me heal better or more efficiently so I can rock the dps buttons I got.
Or just give me seraph strike. Seraph strike would be perfect!

Finally, I had one of my “Piers roulette experiences” with friends.
Alliance roulette, Euphrosyne. I queued with a bard friend and a summoner friend. Everything is pretty normal until second boss.
All of the tanks go for Althyk. No one grabs the Spinner lady. The Spinner ends up aggro’d on my summoner friend. And despite our pleas, and my rescue of our tank to us, none of the tanks pick her up. So I’m spam healing summoner friend, until their demise (I believe to the spreading water mechanic), and then she bounces around leaving bloody skid marks in the arena until someone finds a missing braincell, picks her up, and pulls her away.
Meanwhile, the entire time in the chat, people have been pleading to separate the bosses, for a tank to grab the Spinner. And my party’s tank is complaining they are dying a lot.
Well when one healer is trying to maintain a dps-tank, idk what the other was doing, I was busy, but the actual tank kept standing in AoEs. You’re not exactly trying to save yourself, my dude.
This complaining continued the entire rest of the raid. With people snapping back at him, as he deserved.
He tried to not participate in the gated adds in Halone. I had to rescue him to us. He kept standing and running squarely into AoE. Kept complaining he was dying.
Just
Kept
Complaining.
And I finally got to share my roulette experiences with my friends :3

So with Dawntrail fast approaching, I have been actually logging in to 14and not playing Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail obsessively to attempt to prep for the expac.
I’ve been doing the usual of clearing out inventory, cleaning up retainers, upgrading gear, accidentally turned in half my tank gear to my grand company let’s not talk about that ok
And I’ve been doing some roulettes to get back in the swing.
Every alliance raid roulette has been Dun Scaith.
One started with my cohealer saying, “Hi, it’s my first time healing an alliance raid, please bear with me!”
Which is fine. Everyone has a first go around. We learn by doing. I’m not mad at them. As I mentally and emotionally steeled myself, the tank pipes up:
“It’s ok, it’s my first time tanking here!”
And I can only assume they meant it was their actual first time tanking, because great googly moogly, they repeatedly tried to MT, got squashed because no cool downs/I was busy trying to res and heal the party/coheal really liked casted medica.
We never wiped, somehow, despite getting very close every fight. Average Dun Scaith shenanigans- flying off the boat deck, don’t know what circles to make circles, I don’t think anyone really knows all the mechs there.
Maybe I’m so used to the chaos it doesn’t phase me that much anymore.
5 comms tho, v nice.
Another Dun Scaith tho, we wiped on the first two bosses. Lots of people left. It was tempting. But the alliance chat commentary of “world first dun scaith prog” made me stay.
I’m going crazy, but I’m having a great time.

Piers Plays Pugs: Tank Tantrums Two for One
Today’s expert featured a dark knight that, upon my first pre-pull e.diagnosis shield landing a crit, stopped in their tracks, sat down, and typed in party chat that they won’t be pulling while the shield is on because they want their TBN to break.
The dragoon didn’t notice, kept running and pulled, so I followed and the other dps wasn’t long after us. Fun facts, dragoons can tank like champs.
Tank eventually got over it, caught up, and we got through the dungeon, albeit not without complaint from this tank. Never once seemed to noticed that their TBN was consumed before my shields.
Ok. That was nuts, but I see all sorts of general chaos in my roulettes, so no big deal. Shake it off, Piers.
Main scenario roulette, get Prae, no first timers, ok ok. Things seem fine…until we get to that cutscene trigger before the first boss. I cross the threshold first and make the cutscene start, whereupon this tank starts blowing up chat with a rage that will live rent free in my head for the rest of my life.
They told me not to pull.
I said I didn’t???
They said you pulled, that’s my job, all that stuff
I said, I did not pull. We’re in an unskippable cutscene so I couldn’t anyway.
The tank is just full rage now: YEAH THAT’S WHAT PULLING IS DUMBASS
One of the dps said DUDE ARE YOU SERIOUS RIGHT NOW LOL
Anyway the tank was very serious and this arguing continued and a similar tantrum happened before Nero, and one of the dps got to the vote kick before me.
The new war we got didn’t seem to believe us when they asked what happened and we explained.
To be fair, I don’t think I would have either.
Go do these people find me, and why is it only when I’m alone. My FC thinks I’m crazy.

Piers Plays Pugs: Tank Dance Partner
Load into Aglaia. Two dancers. One dancer partners the dragoon. Very good, very normal. Other dancer partners…the tank.
They share a last name.
Why yes, that Dancer was very insistent that they partner their boyfriend. And she was quick to tell us we don’t pay her sub and she can play how she wants.
How she wanted to play was dying all over the place, apparently.
Anyway.
One troll wipe on scales
One near wipe at 1% by a blue chaser AoE running through the stack.
It was a long raid.
And I really wish I had been on Sage, not White Mage, so I could kardia myself instead of the tank. If the Dancer can do it, so can I.

Piers Plays Pugs: More Tank Things
I mean
I guess there’s no real reason you can’t resolve Ra-La’s Prance mechanic by standing there and hitting Superbolide but
Why?
NGL though it was pretty funny that the two dps stuck with the tank and ate the floor to overlapping Prance AoE

Piers Plays Pugs: Quotes from Duty Finder
Someone in a dungeon told me.
Me.
That I needed to DPS.
…
Bro I really don’t know what to say to that. I’m here to shoot things with lasers first and refill your health bar third. What healer are you looking at here? Because it ain’t me.
I’m out DPSing you.
