I know this is a famous anime/manga but i never got into it, my teacher picked it for me to practice inking. Really liked the result.

Hi everyone! I'm a digital artist, usually do fanart, Oc and commission. I've been drawing for 5 years and have experience opening commissions for 3 years. Since I was born in family with an unfortunate financial condition, commission is the only thing I can gain income to help my family.

1 year ago, I was accepted into University and now I'm a survey engineering student. If I'm honest too, I don't want to go to college. College is insanely expensive to me but there is a chance to get a better job and salary.

I don't know how long I can keep this going. I can't apply for a scholarship until semester 3, I am still in semester 2. But I won't give up. This is for my life, my future and family, I'll work hard even in the end I fail.

I find it difficult so please I need a little help to pay tuition and rent a room. The deadline is the end of July. I would be very grateful if you can donate me or help me by share this.

I out 2gether these notes for a thread on dragcave the other day... The examples and language is pixel art focused but the same concept applies to any approach

Further explanation:

One ramp should be the true colour of the surface, while the other should be the colour it turns with the iridescent sheen! If you have a look in this thread on bettafish, you can see 3 lovely photos of the same iridescent lad showing off that natural white colour in the shadows (being a white fish, though, he's picking up the orange bounce light from the substrate in the tank, making the shadows orange) and the blue/purple sheen in the direct light. Look at those front fins, especially!

The reason for there being two ramps is in the direct light, an iridescent surface changes colour from whatever special light refraction is taking place there (i am not a scientist these r just my observations), but in the shadows you get a much weaker bounce light from the environment which doesnt create that refraction, so there's two colour ramps which overlap in the middle where the weakest part of the iridescent light reaches the same value as the strongest part of the bounce light.

The reason the bounced ramp also works is it would be as if there's two lights in the scene, your main strong light which creates the iridescence, but then fades away into the true colour of the surface as it turns away from the light, and then a weaker secondary light that adds some fun colour to the shadows. You can actually see this taking place in those photos, there's a white light in the fish tank and the iridescence is coming from the room light, making the shadows at the top more desaturated than the bottom ones which are picking up bounced light from the substrate. I talk about these concepts in this post about light i wrote some time ago, which also happens to have an example of iridescent black!

Disclaimer i am not a scientist n these examples especially are stylised so make sure to study iridescence stuff from life in person or thru photos n videos yourself!
