"I purposely developed themes and ideas and repeat them. And it’s very very clear in the [original and prequel] trilogies that I’m putting the characters in pretty much the same situations, sometimes even using the same dialogue so that the father and son go through pretty much the same experience.  Obviously, Anakin takes a different road than his son takes, so at some of these turning points they go the other way — but it’s been set up for you to almost expect Luke to follow in his father’s footsteps, which leads to a subtle influence which gives the audience a little expectation... “  - [George Lucas, The Phantom Menace DVD commentary track, 2001]

Cut off from Grand Moff Tarkin’s leash, Vader is free to terrorize the crew of his fleet, starting with the hapless Admiral Ozzel. After his blunder in alerting the Rebels to his presence, thus giving them the time to put a shield and force the Empire to embarking on a costly ground assault, Vader decides to take matters into his own hands, relieving Ozzel of his post via long-distance Force choke and simultaneously using the opportunity to promote Captain Piett to the rank of Admiral.

Fear was one of Vader’s greatest weapons. Most of the time he had his opponents trembling at his power and reputation, before ever activating his lightsaber.

For hundreds of years there was peace in the galaxy and the Sith Empire were assumed to be extinct. Only for a thousand years later, they re-emerge from unknown space to reconquer their lost home world Korriban and attack the Republic and several other worlds. After several defeats by the Republic and the loss of their hold on several systems, the Empire offers a truce to the conflicts. With the loss of many of their systems, and their capital, Coruscant, also captured by the Empire, they have little choice but to agree with the Empire's terms. The Treaty of Coruscant is signed and the Republic must cede control of many of their star systems and acknowledge new boundaries of Imperial dominion. After years of conflict, the fighting finally comes to an end. But tensions grew over the last few years and peace hung by a thread; a return to open war was all but inevitable.

The Great Jedi Purge, later also known as the Second Jedi Purge or Palpatine’s Purge, referred to the efforts initiated by the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, upon his creation of the Galactic Empire, in 19 BBY, to eradicate the Jedi Order. It resulted in the near-annihilation of the Jedi, as it had been with the First Jedi Purge that occurred after the Jedi Civil War. In the nineteen years that followed Order 66, many Jedi fell to Vader, Inquisitors, Emperor’s Hand’s, Dark Jedi, and even bounty hunters. By 1 BBY, so small a number of Jedi remained that the Emperor, considering the Jedi to be no longer a threat, put an end to the Purge.

The Battle of Scarif was the first major battle fought between the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the Galactic Empire, marking the beginning of the Galactic Civil War. The battle followed years of attacks by the fledgling Rebel Alliance against the Empire and began the five-year period in which the Alliance successfully fought to replace the Galactic Empire with the New Republic.

30 years after the Battle of Endor, Ahch-To served as the secret refuge of Luke Skywalker following the Jedi massacre.  From space, Ahch-To appeared to be a world of nothing but deep blue oceans. Dotting the oceans, however, were rocky island archipelagos covered with green trees and grass, where birds would congregate. The first Jedi Temple was built on one such island. By the time of the conflict between the First Order and the Resistance, the island that supposedly held the location of the first Jedi Temple was dotted with ruins. The planet Ahch-To first appeared in the final moments of The Force Awakens. The name of the planet was not uttered in the film, and instead was revealed in the script. It will appear again in Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, set for release on December 15, 2017.

Darth Vader’s castle on Mustafar is an idea that George Lucas originally conceived for Empire Strikes Back. The Star Wars creator originally envisioned that Vader would have a villainous castle on a lava planet in the original Star Wars sequels. Legendary artist Ralph McQuarrie even sketched out a few concepts for the castle (one design can be seen here), but ultimately Lucas decided not to use it in the original trilogy.
This is also set on the planet Mustafar, which is where Anakin Skywalker lost the infamous lightsaber duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi. This is basically where Darth Vader as we know him was born.

At the end of [Rogue One], our heroes succeed in getting the plans for the Death Star off of the planet Scarif, but sadly don’t make it off the planet ... So once that happens, we’re left following the plans themselves, which are desperately being raced to Princess Leia’s Tantive IV. However, one thing stands in the way…and it’s a black-clad Sith Lord.
