Kermit said it’s not easy being green, but it’s gotten a whole lot easier over the years (and more important than ever)! And sure, he wasn’t talking about this kind of green, but I bet now he’d agree guilt-free is “what I want to be.”

While thinking about sustainability can feel overwhelming and often thoughts like “how can my small piece matter” discourage us, small actions DO matter. Your small part adds up with everyone else’s and becomes much more. At EPCOT, The Land reminds us how important it is to live with the land and how everything we do impact our world tomorrow – so let’s do it right.

Here are 6 easy ways to be sustainable while enjoying Disney:

1. Ask for No Straw

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – ask for no straws! Animal Kingdom already only uses paper straws, but until the other parks make the switch too (*fingers crossed* one day) those single-use plastic death sticks are piling up!

If you didn’t see already, we made this post and petition for the other parks to encourage the switch. And we recently discovered a new favorite hero leading the charge to kick straws.

We know some people have negative opinions on the paper straws, but if that little sacrifice could really make a difference, why not try it? #downwithstraws

Plus there are some pretty nifty reusable straws that you could always bring with you. Like one of these:

2. Put It In The Right Bin

One super easy rule of thumb, but one that I see overlooked all the time, is put recycling into the recycling bins provided at the parks.

I’ve read a few places that the Cast Members do sort through the trash, but I just don’t understand how that works. Either way though, let’s make their jobs easier. They are already making so much magic happen, give them some magic back.

  3. Refillable Water Bottle

Just like straws, every plastic water bottle adds up. And while there IS recycling available – if you choose the right bin – it’s definitely better to just bring your own. The beauty of sustainability is definitely found in this adorable water bottle that even matches my villainesque soul.

And if you’re already park bound and realized you forgot one, then hang on to Dasani bottle you purchased at the parks and fill it up few times so it has a little more life before going in the bin.

4. Chow Down on Plants

If you’re already vegan (yay you), you’ve got to follow our friend VeganDisney’s blog and Instagram for their recommendations and tips! If you haven’t made the change yet, trying a vegan day can be a fun, fulfilling, and guilt-free change! Check @VeganDisney for tips on where to go – it’s easier and tastier than you may think!

  6. Pass on Paper

Speaking of food, if you know you don’t need a napkin, say no! Napkins often cannot be recycled due to small fibers and oils. So they are just piling up right beside those pesky straws. Even more importantly, don’t be one of those people who take 200 napkins at once “just in case” and then throw them away. Poor napkins never had a chance.

  5. Bring a Reusable Tote

This oversized impulse tote is perfect for impulse shopping around the parks guilt-free. Be a HERO! Ditch the plastic to go bags and bring your goodies home in this sweet canvas tote that you can use time and time again back at home too.

Coach’s new collection has our favorite sleeping beauties – and a few of their friends – taking a *sharp* detour from their Happily Ever After. Poison apples, peeping eyes, and purple hues straight from the Evil Queen’s closet haunt this collection. The result is bold, spooky, and fun with an undeniable jolt of New York style. Which makes sense since Stuart Vevers, Coach’s creative director (who just wrapped up the Minnie collaboration) sums up the inspiration as “an American-gothic fairy tale born of New York.”

Disney X Coach Looks to Make the Evil Queen Proud

Tracksuits, sneakers, and a good bomber jacket are my fashion go-to’s. So obviously, seeing these spooky ready-to-wear looks emerge from the shadows has me shook. My personal fav Spooky Eyes Track Pant. They’re perfect for late night jaunts through the forest chasing after your true love’s heart, especially when coupled with the patched Campus Pack which is conveniently the size of your favorite dagger!

I can’t help but feel like the whole collection has a tough cool-kid vibe running through it, a-la Disney’s Descendants. Anyone else get the feeling that Mal and Evie would be ALL over these handbags? As you might have picked up, I am a bit of a villains geek. So a collection dedicated to the darker Disney wins my heart. But it isn’t all for us baddies! Snow’s Seven all have graffiti-inspired bag charms and dedicated handbags. And of course, fan favorite Dopey gets extra special treatment with tees and hoodies featuring those iconic, glittering diamond eyes.

Leather’s too Evil for My Tastes

I may be a villain-phile, but leather is just too evil, even for me. As killer a Disney X Coach collection this may be, Coach always uses leather for their bags, so as a vegan I refuse to buy them. If you’re like me and bags are out of the question, the collection has jackets, hoodies, pants, patches, and jewelry for the cruelty-free buyer. That is unless you won’t purchase from retailers selling leather at all.

Surprise, surprise! Coach is teaming up with the House of Mouse – again! But this one is for the Minnie-philes who just couldn’t splurge on the full-priced pieces. Just like the Coach x Minnie Mouse collection released earlier this year, this new collaboration combines the Americana feel of Coach with the sweetness of Minnie Mouse. We’re talking about Coach structured handbags and clutches made youthful with patches and mouse ears!

What I love most is that this collection breaks from Minnie’s usual go-tos of red and polka dot. Obviously, I love Minnie’s signatures, but a change so nice. Even a style icon needs a style shift now and then! The dusty pinks and florals give a feminine touch while the patches and Roller Mouse embossing lend an edgy feel that says “I’m tougher than I look.”

Coach x Minnie Mouse collection launches May 15th or May 3rd – TOMORROW – for you UK babes! And it’ll be available till they sell out, which if history is any lesson, will be in seconds. No word yet if the collection will be available online at all. But last year, the company’s official outlet website carried the products for two days only, then sold the rest exclusively in outlet stores until they ran out. After that, some pieces moved over to ShopDisney where you can still find a couple.

If the launch is like last year, then registering now on the outlet website is a smart move. With the collab exclusive to shoppers who registered for an account, you had a better chance of snagging the merch. But if you’re not a fan of online shopping, then you can find your nearest brick and mortar store here.

Today is the 48th Earth Day celebrating this beautiful, blue-green globe. For better or worse, it’s the one day a year where most people acknowledge how their day-to-day actions harm or help our Spaceship Earth. From recycling to reducing food wastes, we can all make a difference in our environments, with impacts made both locally and globally.

Twenty-years ago the Disney Company made a difference with their leap into the conservation movement with the opening of Disney’s Animal Kingdom park. With that opening, a new generation of youth was educated to earth’s plight and inspired to fight. With a park theme reflecting the natural environment and focused on animal conservation – a concept Walt pioneered himself – visitors are inspired by the beauty and majesty of a wild world they have never before explored.

To be truthful though, when Diseny’s Animal Kingdom first opened, it was definitely a sleeper park. Most visitors considered a half-day park with a few fun shows, but today, it is SO much more. From conservation focused education to fantasy adventure, Animal Kingdom is now a full day park with – in our vegan fat-kid opinion – the best food and drink options *anywhere* on Disney property.

But I bet you already knew all that good stuff! What you might not know is Disney’s Animal Kingdom is just the public view of Disney’s dream for sustainability and conservation.

Disney Conservation Fund, a philanthropic wing of the Disney Company, provides focused grants to restore animal habitats, reverse the decline of wildlife and protect precious natural resources the world over. Part of the DCF is the Reverse the Decline initiative which works to save wildlife, inspire action and protect the planet. And by coupling expertise from Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment professionals with Disney funds, the Reverse the Decline initiative has funded over $70 million to more than 2,000 conservation programs worldwide. In addition to its global conservation, the Disney Company is committed to reducing the environmental impacts they cause as a company with a worldwide presence.

Disney Environmental Stewardship Goals

  While Disney takes strides in aiding the global space, what’s even more impressive is the change on a local level – especially when your local spot has millions of visitors each year. If you haven’t been to Animal Kingdom before, you’ll quickly notice the drinks are served differently. As a subtle, but innovative step to protect the wildlife in the park, Animal Kingdom did away with straws and lids to ensure pieces wouldn’t end up in animal enclosures. As not only a theme park but also an accredited zoo, approximately 1,500 animals, ranging from lions to banshees, call Animal Kingdom home. And with such beautiful – and already endangered – animals at the core of the park, keeping them safe is the number one priority.

Guests can hunt all they want, but they won’t find a plastic lid or plastic straw anywhere in the park – with the exception of the occasional hot drink. But Animal Kingdom still provides a great alternative for sipping down a cold refresher on a hot day by using high-density paper straws. Paper straws are a much more animal and environmentally friendly option, but it’s even better if you choose to skip the straw altogether.

In only the past twenty years, people have come to expect straws in every drink they order – an extreme waste generated for minimal convenience.  Nearly 500,000,000 plastic straws are used every day in the United States which lead over 50 million non-recyclable plastic shipped off to landfills –  much of which finds its way to the ocean. In the game of straws, Mother Earth is drawing the short one. With plastics at the core of ocean pollution like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch (currently larger than the state of Texas), continuing the use of single-use plastics should scare all of us.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom has shown that an alternative to plastic straws is possible on a large scale. With such a huge positive step at one park, we aren’t sure why Disney hasn’t taken the paper straw replacements resort-wide yet, but we have reached out to reps hoping to learn more. We ask that you encourage the parks to ditch the paper straw by signing this petition – one signature isn’t a lot but together we can make a change.

So now, while we hope that all Disney parks follow Animal Kingdom’s path, we don’t have to sit idly by. We challenge you to say #downwithstraws in your everyday life. When at a restaurant simply ask for no straw, if you forget and have a straw, take that straw home with you, and give it a second, third, fourth life. Mickey and Friends Dress (wearing size 10), Black Tights, Ugg Booties, Gold Minnie Ears 

Polka dot print isn’t new, but you’d think it is with the influx of dots spotted (spotted … get it?) this season. And who can blame designers, dots are a fun way to play with a bold, on-trend print, without losing classic style. Everyone from J.Crew to Kate Spade took note of what Minnie and Perdita know, polka dots are the perfect print.

For me though, the winner of this polka dot resurgence has to be Cath Kidston with her newest Disney collaboration – the Mickey & Friends collection. To be fair though, Cath Kidston is no stranger to polka dots. Kidston’s last collaborations with Disney brought together Winnie the Pooh, 101 Dalmatians, and Peter Pan and paired them with vintage-inspired florals, sketches of English heritage, and – surprise, surprise – polka dots! This new collection is no different – it stays true to her modern vintage feel while stepping up your Disney style.

While everything in this new line is incredible, my favorite is definitely this light blue-grey polka dot Mickey Mouse dress. The classic shift-dress cut coupled with a muted color gives this dress a very English feel – something my style icon Kate Middleton, a big fan of polka dot prints, might sport. Of course it isn’t lacking in personality either thanks to the vintage sketch of Mickey Mouse peeking over the hem. Personally, I can’t imagine a better dress to wander around EPCOT while pretending to be a Middleton sister. It’s flirty and fun with an easy-going feel.

I paired this with black tights and comfy Ugg booties for an easy winter look, but I’ll be bringing this out again in summer with sandals and white converse.

25th Anniversary Minnie Ears in UK Pavillion

And while this is perfect for a day at Disney, don’t count it out as a perfect piece for everyday wear. With a pair black flats from Rothy’s (new personal fav), it makes for the perfect office dress. All in all, this Disney collaboration is a perfect way to add Disney style to your everyday look. Oh, and don’t forget to check out the other pieces in the collection before they sell out!
