As someone who lost almost their entire family, their previous life, nearly all of their friends, I disagree with this. There no reason to continue to grieve. Celebrate life, celebrate change, have the capacity to continue to have fun, to continue to be happy in the face of what is difficult. Life is hard, life can be lonely, but we have this one life only.

The time you had as a child can be had as an adult, the summers you miss can be obtained; stop thinking that all is lost simply because you let something slip away at one point. Being an adult obviously entails more responsibilities, there is time you have to spend working, and energy you have to spend on maintaining the relationships and life you’ve built. But make time for yourself, set yourself up to succeed; many things will not go away like your chores which can be set aside for a moment of bliss, and other things can be changed like relationships which be stressful.

i don’t think people understand how much of life is grief. not just people dying, but losing the version of yourself you thought you’d become. grieving the city you had to leave. the friends you lost not in argument, but in silence. the summer that will never come back. the feeling that maybe you peaked at 12 when you were reading books under the covers and believing in forever
