It’s really healthy to see P at races and in the paddock. She is at an age she can begin to understand this is what Maxie does. And so does “uncle” Lando and “uncle” Daniel.
But also this is what Daddy used to do and still does in a different form. This is what Grandpa Nelson used to do and Uncle Nelson. This is literally her heritage and it wonderful to see the third generation of a former champion in the paddock (whether you love them or hate them). But it will also make conversations with her family easier to understand as she gets older. She will personally know the names of people engraved on the World Drivers Championship trophy.
This would be the same Nico who said you go into a corner differently with Max to any other driver. At the time Max turned into a corner regardless of where any other driver was on the track.
nico would be the hero we all need in the max domination era. “just close the door on him” bro nico would be taking max out at every opportunity
Will Buxton has brought up a good point about Checo and Max and the RB's. Will said, what if the normal level for RB is Checo, but Max is just on a whole nother level no one can beat. Which raises a great point. I mean look at all his teammates of the past. None of them have been able to do what he can, I think that creates such stress and expectations on the 2nd driver no matter who they are. Max really is on another level, he's got a car that's just matched perfectly for him and it's created this beast that I don't think another driver could do in a RB. I think Will was right, if another driver pairing was in the RBs right now, I don't think they'd be so damn dominate, they're dominate because Max and that car are just on another level when together, and it's crazy to watch.
I know people say it's boring to watch Max constantly win, and I know I say it too sometimes, but it's really insane the lengths Max is pulling out of that car, it's amazing and I truly think no one else could take that RB car to that level.
This is the issue these days of expressing an opinion. I’m allowed to be disappointed in someone when they make a poor choice. Lord knows I’ve been having those days with Lewis Hamilton since 2007 (and holy hell did you need patience in 2007 and 2008). I’ve been periodically losing my patience with McLaren on and off since 2011. Now Mercedes are testing my patience.
However that is a normal part of being a fan of something. You are allowed to have a view and been disappointed in something.
However when you do that now you get sacked in with the morons who let’s be fair, yesterday was the Lewis “fans” (loose term) who believed a pole had been stolen no matter how many ways you explained the rules to them, to today the most nonsensical hate towards him regarding his quali.
Do I understand what Lewis did at the start of the sprint race? Yes. Do I think he had other options? Yes. Am I disappointed that his disillusion with this car means he has done something 10 years ago he wouldn’t? Yes.
Do I think he is always looking for an excuse? No. It’s pretty comprehensive to me, he’s been saying the car for the last 3 years. Do I think Lewis is a dirty driver? No.
Do I think McLaren need to give Lando the car that means he can pull off overtakes like he did in Japan everywhere? Yes. Do I think he was a fool to try that line out of turn 2? No. Because if he had backed off we all know Lewis would have gone more right.
There is a difference between an opinion and mindless hate.
This is the life of a McLaren fan, they predict misery and failure and then actually exceed their own grin expectations
P4 and 5 for the papaya boys 🧡
really pleased with that quali result actually considering what they'd been saying before practice, our one lap pace is pretty good and the sprint showed that actually longer runs aren't too shoddy compared to the misery they'd implied we'd have so tomorrow should be good
