It’s time for another Dream Diary Jam!
Edit:Jam runs from May 15th, 2020 to June 26th, 2020.  You can join before or during those dates!
Yume Nikki’s 16th anniversary is this year.  To celebrate, we’re hosting a game jam where participants make a Yume Nikki fangame in 6 weeks.  You can work in whatever engine you’d like with however many people you’d like, as long as you turn it in by June 26th, 2020! You can see all the rules (don’t worry, they’re short) here on itch.io. 💕
Here are the currently accepted types of entries:
A Traditional Yume Nikki Fangames - These games are just like Yume Nikki, except with different protagonist & worlds and sometimes a few game mechanics changed up. They’re like sequels or spiritual successors to the original game in lieu of an actual Yume Nikki update. Get as experimental as you’d like. Examples of these games include .flow, Yume 2kki, Lcd Dem, and Answered Prayers.
An Actual Fangame of Yume Nikki - These games use the characters and setting of the original game and make a new game with them in it. They’re like fanfiction, except with a lot more programming. You can make anything from a JRPG to a dating sim for this one, as long as it features the cast of Yume Nikki. Examples of these games include NASU Plus, Memories of Replica, Dream Kombat, and Yume Nikki Hazard.
An update to a previous submission - Did you enter a game in Dream Diary Jam 1, 2, or 3 and want to make an update on it?  Now’s your chance!  You can take this option even if you’ve been working off jam on your game, as long as you provide a substantial update.
We have two OPTIONAL themes this year: Nostalgia and fungi/mushrooms.  You can incorporate one or both of them into your game any way you’d like (as the premise, as the mood, as an effect or world, etc.), or you can choose not to!  Have fun and get creative. c:
Come sign up on itch.io if you’d like to participate,  & check out the discord if you’re feeling social!  Feel free to send in questions to this blog & on the itch.io page, and have a good time.
See you soon, dreamers!

DREAM DIARY JAM 3 -YUME NIKKI JAM- IS COMING MAY 17TH!
And you can follow us on Twitter (which will be updated soon) as well as here on tumblr!
It’s back, dreamers!  Welcome old and new to Dream Diary Jam, a game Jam all about creating fangames for the cult classic RPG Maker 2003 game Yume Nikki - and for the new YUME NIKKI ~Dream Diary~ as well.  The goal of this jam is to make a Yume Nikki fangame or demo of a fangame within 6 weeks time, starting on May 17th and ending on June 30th, the original Yume Nikki’s 15th (wow!) birthday. Your host this year are @pinkuboa & @pancakeproductions.
A Fangame of YUME NIKKI ~~Dream Diary~~ - Your goal would be to make an adventure-platformer with surreal and/or dreamlike things, and have a few items the player can collect and use to solve puzzles. See the itch.io page for details.
An update to a previous submission - Did you enter a game in Dream Diary Jam 1 or 2 and want to make an update on it?  Come on down and put in a nice update for it!  You can take this option even if you’ve been working off jam on your game, as long as you provide a substantial update.
Your goal is is to make a full game, demo, or v0.00 (see “Completion Goals” on the itch.io page for more details). Whatever you decide to make, do your best to complete it and have as much fun as you can!   There’s no competition and no prizes, so there’s no pressure for participants to make the best game ever.  Only gentle, encouraging pressure to get your game finished here.  If you’d like to take a look at previous years’s entries, check em out here (https://itch.io/jam/dream-diary-jam ) & here (https://itch.io/jam/dream-diary-jam-2-yume-nikki-jam-)
Jam Basics
Jam runs from May 17th, 12:00am EST to June 30th, 11:59pm EST. You can plan out your game all you’d like before then, but you can’t work on it until May 17th hits.
No competition or contest, just the satisfaction of making a game!
Late entries are accepted up to 5 days after the jam, however, you must contact the jam so they can be added to the jam page properly.
You can work by yourself or on a team, and you can make as many games as you can participate in.
The game can be a demo or a full game. For traditional Yume Nikki Fangames, it has to fall under the requirements of a v0.00 (see “Completion Goals” for more details). Yume Nikki is still in v0.10!
You can make your fangame any genre you’d like, don’t feel constrained to horror.
You can use any engine you’d like. The RPG Maker series is suggested for a traditional fangame, but traditional Yume Nikki fangames have been made on other engines as well.  Unity is suggested for YUME NIKKI ~Dream Diary~ Fangames as it was the engine the game was made in, but feel free to use any 2D or 3D engine you’re comfortable with.
Check us out on itch.io below for more details.

♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ Overview:  A short jam about sharing the love of both space and bunnies. The jam is two weeks long and deals with you having to create a game base around space and bunnies. The reason this jam was created so it can give a little push to anyone who wants to create a short game in a short time and have a theme to follow.
You are allowed to use any engine you wish and you are allow to work alone or in teams.
Rules:
No NSFW/Hate Speech/ Animal Cruelty- Please don’t use and promote any animal cruelty, racism, sexism, transphobia, anything that spreads hate. Though you are allowed to make a game that covers heavy topics, just makes sure it isn’t a game that is made to hate someone.
Be respectful to all participants and contributors- Treat everyone with respect, since we are all here to have fun.
Make sure you have fun- Make sure you take breaks and take care of yourself, this isn’t a race. This jam is meant to be relaxing and to have fun.
Don’t work on the game before the Jam- You are allowed to preplan, meaning create concept art, music, and art. Though don’t do any in game engine work. Most of the work should be done in the jam meaning all the in engine work.
Additional Details: Part of the theme of this jam is that your game must contain a bunny, though it doesn’t just have to be animals. Bunnies can be plush animals, toys, more human like, personifications, robots, ect. Though it has to show that in design it’s a bunny/rabbit. Also you game at minimum should have one rabbit/bunny base character or thing in the game that is part of the game.
♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥ ♡ ♥
Hey everyone, I’m hosting a jam! This jam is just 2 weeks long, the jam starts on the 2nd of February and ends on the 16th of February. I started this jam since I really couldn’t find a jam to help me make a short game so then I thought it might be cool and helpful if I host a little jam about making a game dealing with space and bunnies.
If you guys have any questions feel free to to say them on the community page of message me here or on twitter @ choko_Games
You can see the jam here: https://itch.io/jam/space-bunny-jam

Damn, I can't believe Akira can't even post the lyrics to all his favourite Weezer and Bring Me the Horizon lyrics to twitter because he can't read or write. RIP Akira 😔 🙏

The game’s concept is weird: I needed to finally work on a game and get myself into a development habit thing, but I was still too nervous & perfectionist for a game that I was pure passionate about concept wise.
So, I decided to do something kinda... weird.  I basically said, “you know, I want to make a really edgy cliche yume nikki fangame combined with like every OC you make in your edgy teen years while listening to MCR and posting emo poetry on your yami-kawaii blog”.  That way, I wouldn’t feel bad if I was messing up the game: it was meant to be part goofy (but hopefully still enjoyable!).
However, I also took it as an opportunity to try things: building tilesets within a short amount of time, doing a lot with the least amount of tiles, adding a password system, having a true wake/sleep state + animation countdown, having a switches death system for all characters, adding in moving tiles like drawers, etc..  That, and I added stuff I wanted to see in more Yume Nikki fangames: smaller maps but a lot more stuff to do & find, more things to collect, normal walking speed instead of slow, and other fun stuff like that.
Basically, even though it’s edgy and I keep killing Akira in his dream because it makes me laugh, I’m proud of the work I put on it skeletal-wise and I’m happy I made it at the moment for all the progress I’ve made. c:  It’s nice to work on something without your brain judging you!   I feel more confident on other projects now going on, and I’m hoping I’ll be free to do more like that in the future c,:

If you're still doin' this then ayy, how about 🌺 🌺 🌺 some more Akira facts yo 🤟
Three facts, let’s see…
Akira really does have some selective memory loss (not like the actual condition going on like plot memory loss I haven’t done proper research to write that actually well) and doesn’t know exactly how he got to his current situation.  He did put all the locks on his doors though.
He listens to emo, electronic, vaporwave, and angsty teen stuff even tho he’s like uhhh 20 in game.
This is canon:

@cheshirejack Thank you!!! Some days you gotta make something extra, you know?  I always wanted more stuff in my YNFG mazes and I had fun drawing it (aaaa i’m just trying to say I’m flattered and I’m glad!!!) 😊
also, I agree

🌺🌺🌺!
A whole bouquet!  Here’s 3 facts:
My favorite panorama in the game is the one you can find deeper in the TV maze!  Surprisingly, I drew it all with a mouse.
This NPC was originally going to be killable, but I didn’t program it right.
Tumblr media
@cachicordova found it as a bug, but was like “No keep the squish immortal” and I agreed, so now he’s the immortal squish. :0c
Here’s my favorite character in the game (small spoiler since he’s hard to find):

🌺🌺🌺 qvq If that is okay.
Ofc!  3 facts:
Tumblr media
These little dudes are based off of Japan’s super cute animal construction signs!!!  If you dug in the files you could find them on most tilesets in the game since I wasn’t sure when I needed to stop whoops.  Wish more games had cute little signs like this ;w;
Tumblr media
If I ever think of em, I’d love for there to be multiple mini-game cartridges in Akira’s dream world that when found, would be playable later on his computer like in YNDD.  Collecting things is so much fun, esp when the reward is another game! c:
Lastly no one’s called me out on these signs yet:
Tumblr media
Even though it should give everyone who’s ever been in the dream diary chat(s) war flashbacks.  Apparently my reference was too subtle.
