can i ask what specifically you mean by the ieytd fandom miswriting ollie? genuinely curious, i haven’t engaged with his character much myself, so maybe i’m just not in the right circles to immediately know what you’re talking about. from what i’ve seen of people portraying him as kind+a bit silly is imo pretty close to canon since that’s his role in Hot Water, to help us and be comedic relief. but again i haven’t been deep into his pocket of the fandom, so i assume you’re talking abt something more specific and i’m curious to know what you mean

canonically, he is kind, yes. But the thing with this fandom is, (SOME) people take one character trait from a character, and run so far with it, they become horribly written and so one sided it becomes incredibly boring to read the character. Yes, ollie is kind, he's sort of a comedic relief? didn't really get any comedy from him but that could just be my dead sense of humor. The thing with the fandom writing him, is they take kind and turn it into incredibly dependent naive uwu soft boy who cant function. And ollix shippers make it incredibly dependent naive uwu soft boy who cant function WITHOUT their big strong phoenix. Yes, ollie can get help from phoenix, adults being able to ask for help from their friend/partner is very healthy! But dont make it so that ollie NEEDS someone. He's an adult, presumably very smart and well working to be able to man a whole zoraxis base by himself. This ties in with the "phoenix NEEDS Reginald" stereotype, Phoenix is a canonically mute/quiet character and the most common stereotype for a mute/quiet character is needing someone, being soft and not being able to function, and as someone with selective mutism, this is very weird to me. I cant and wont talk during school, or in public spaces, sometimes for days straight. But during those times I can still function, I can do my schoolwork, walk to my job and still do my job. My selective mutism needs help, but I dont rely on anyone so heavily for everything. Phoenix and Ollie are grown adults, they can be mute and have things they need to work through, but from a canonical standpoint, they can both still function like adults.

Yes you can give him issues, but dont make phoenix fix all his issues for him, Adults need to be able to work through their issues with help, not dumping them on someone else. Its really disheartening to people with these actual issues to write that basically the only way these people got through said issues is because someone else swooped in and fixed it for them. Working through issues is a process.

TLDR: If you want to write ollie in a serious sense for actual writing projects, make him complex with feelings and emotions and actual thoughts. People can have more sides than just kind. Dont make all your adult characters NEED someone. Make your adult characters actual adults.

do I have headcanons for fabby x solaris, you ask. oh do I.

- They did not get together quickly. Debatably they did not get together at all. I doubt they ever formally started dating. Their work puts far too much pressure on them, neither of them are looking for that level of commitment or definition in terms of a relationship. And they would never really be public about it if they did enter a relationship.

- They also... Did not get along at first. Which was the idea when Zor assigned them to work together. Their personalities clashed constantly, their visions were complete opposites, and the Fabricator was far more loyal to Zor. But they grew on each other inevitably, and when the Fabricator was the only one to visit Solaris after the Death Engine it really cemented their status solidly into "friends" territory. This is around when the Fabricator processed that she was, in fact, falling in love. Oops.

- Solaris isn't really... Used to romance. She never thought she'd want it, was blindsided by it when her own feelings started developing into less platonic love, and then did not know what it really. Was. That she was feeling. She really didn't make a big deal out of it... She liked how things were between them.

All this to say I like when their relationship is less.. Defined. Sure, they're partners, but they don't really need to put words and labels to it. They love each other. That's good enough for them. It's not quite friendship, and they know that, but they simply... Don't feel the need for that. They're not loud about their affection, they don't like PDA, even in private they're very... Subdued, I suppose. And they like it this way.

-that beekeeper suit he wears? he sleep in it. i don’t make the rules

-names the queen bees in his hives after his coworkers at zoraxis. not exactly their names, just one that’s slightly off that makes them question wether they’re being talked to. it amuses him

-has hEDS and uses a rollator. he keeps a pompom bee keychain attached to it and has it painted black and yellow. why? because i’m projecting that’s why

-autistic(what im not projecting again wdym), had mediocre grades in school due to overstimulation and lack of communication and understanding from teachers (not to mention with classmates)

-^but passed with flying colors in biology/ecology/etc classes

-^only really became aware that he’s autistic a bit before the events of the games (due to the boom in disability advocacy from the us civil rights movement in the 1950s-1960s)

-most often hangs out with charlie or solaris. him and solaris hated each other bc of the personality clash but they eventually had to work together and the two started to get along. now they visit each other every now and again to joke around and hang out and such

-bi + aroace (obvi didn’t have a proper term for it, he would usually describe it as wanting to date someone but in a friendly way (aka, platonic attraction and would be in a qpr if in modern day)

my phoenix is a power, aka they are sent by god (quick side tangent, while this is inspired by my religion, catholicism, “god” in the story is not the christian or catholic god. They are just God, up to interpretation on who you think the “god” is.)

They are bound to oathes and are very loyal to “god” they would never betray the divine overseers. However their loyalty can be twisted, and Angels are sent to protect earth. However. anyone can claim to have their best interest in heart. and A power is very loyal to any oath they take.

in my wonderful amazing well written lore, phoenix takes an oathe to Zoraxis, which they break after “killing” the old head agent (oh i wonder who that could be.. hm…. i wonder….) Doing so they lose their divine power, and as punishment from god, lose their voice. They blame it entirely on themselves, as yk angels love “God”. Phoenix is responsible, mature, perfect in a sense, that’s how the agency sees them atleast. They cover up their past and join the agency seeing that as an opposite to Zoraxis. The agency is corrupt too though, every agent just soemthing they can recycle. Phoenix can’t die, while they lose their divine power, an angel can never become mortal. they are just simply a creature, not a demon, or an angel. The agency uses them as a tool, just like Zoraxis did, and uhhh yada yada yada lust love incubi succubi i paid too much attention in history class and i’m a freak

he loves cats like he will stop in the middle of the road to pet one, which has given gibson many heart attacks /silly

he despises anything bland. food, clothing, people, he hates it. and he’s sort of a trinket collector. he wouldn’t ever tell anyone that though.

He can play piano, and flute. chromic band and theatre kid in middle school… scary. adding onto this he would 100% fake his crushes in middle school and high school to act cool.

he’s very good at sewing, his mother taught him how to.

uhm speaking of family… heh.. he grew up on a farm in indiana. His dad was an actor who gave up with dream to have the family and take over his father’s farm, which he wasn’t very happy about.
