how do you feel about people saying jess is ātoo goodā for rory post revival?
Sorry for the super late reply omg!!
I guess I havenāt really given much thought to the whole āJess is too good for Rory nowā argument ā Iād just roll my eyes a bit and keep scrolling when Iād read it lmao, particularly when the point someone is making is that Logan and Rory deserve each other because theyāre both awful and thus Jess is too good for Rory.
The biggest thing is probably that I simply donāt see how Rory is beyond any sort of redemption after the revival? I tend to interpret the revival as Rory feeling at her lowest where nothing is going right for her and sheās lost sight of where she wants to be. Obviously this story was told in a very sloppy manner but thatās what the intention seemed to be and consequently, every character flaw of Roryās comes to the surface. We already begin to see Rory figure things out for herself again by the end of the revival, so itās very easy for me to see a path of, generally speaking, ~redemption for her post-revival.......especially if ASP aint carving out that path.
Their scenes in the revival (as few as they were) would indicate that Jess still enjoys her company, teasing and supporting her; sheās not negatively impacting his life when she (for a brief moment) speaks openly about how unhappy she is with the state of her life, especially given the context of their dynamic and Jessā character development. Iāve lost my train of thought a bit here lol but I guess Iām trying to say that Jess seems fine with Rory having a presence in his life, Rory isnāt having a negative impact on Jess nor holding him back... this notion of him being too good for her is just irrelevant to me, tbh! I never got the impression that heās been pining after her for those last 10 years and missing out on life because of it, either. And to be very blunt with you.......I truly do not have the energy to care if he wants to look through a window and pine a bit after the girlfriend he had in high school lmao This is just my thought process here but itās a pretty typical ā and inoffensive ā romantic trope in fiction.
Iāve discussed this before but narratively speaking, I also like the role reversal/parallels of Rory, the one whose life is relatively stable, supporting Jess, the one whose life is a bit of a mess, while they were teenagers to now Jess is the one who is in a position to offer support to Rory. Letās go friends to mess to lovers to exes to friends to lovers, letās go!!
#ask#Anonymous#my brain is a bit mush because i've just been watching bh90210 for the past two or so weeks#so my ability to recall specific details from the revival cannot be done at this time lmao my mind is rusty

Amy Sherman-Palladino: We always played that Rory and Jess saw each other for what they were. That was the great thing about that relationship. She saw Jess for exactly what he was, and he really got her. So it just seemed like a natural thing [for Jess to pull Rory out of her funk] because you needed somebody to do it. It wasnāt going to be Lorelai, and it just made sense for the relationship that we had set up with them that he would get her.

Ever since I saw your exile literati gifset I cant get over how cyclical their relationship is! They really have seen this film before!! Why do you think Rory keeps coming back to Jess especially when sheās in a relationship with someone else?
Hey there! First off, thank you for checking out my Exile edit, I appreciate that a lot :) Secondly, this question sent me into an analytical spiral which is why youāre getting a response a few days late lol! I wanna preface this by saying that Iāve read a LOT of GG takes so anything Iām about to say has probablyĀ definitely been said more eloquently and concisely by someone else. Also Iām not going to get into comparing the boyfriends specifically because 1. Iāve watched the Jess eps more than any other so I donāt feel knowledgeable enough to talk on the other bfs 2. Conflict scares me :)
Okay so!
