considering the cancel culture era of current times i'll forever be fascinated at how bojack horseman humanizes abusers then asks the audience are you a bojack or a friend just a fan of an abusive person and what would you do if you found out someone you idolized/loved was found to have done such horrible things? would you stay loyal like PB? distant yourself entirely like Diane? Try to change if that abuser is YOU? look at the celebs who were exposed of doing bad shit in a bit of a different light bec at the end of the day were all just humans and dont really know what were doing but we just gotta try to be better than we use to be. the anger we feel when horrible people like Hank the hippo get off but wait what if our friend is a hank or a bojack.. what do we do then? do we love em? do we move on? are we the Bojack of our lives? this show in general just really makes you think

Bojack sees life as a sitcom
I'm realizing that's still true even in s6 where he goes to make amends and happy endings with his friends then to himself . At the end of 30 minutes everything gonna be OK. He so wanted to give himself happy ending
Then the show goes back to reality .
Ooh, good take!
This also works in a meta way, with the audience. The show gives us 3 different endings for us to choose from, and I think why so many people like choosing TVFHD is because they see the show the opposite of the way BoJack sees it: they see it as a depressing drama.

At the beginning of the show, Mr Peanutbutter is a foil to BoJack in the same way that Squilliam is a foil to Squidward. But at the end of the show, Mr Peanutbutter is a foil to BoJack in the same way that SpongeBob is a foil to Squidward.

I love Diane Nguyen. She’s never done anything wrong ever in her life. Except for all things she’s done wrong. Which I forgive her for 💙

They should've kept the fucking Jellicles joke tbh. BoJack rings Princess Carolyn in peak season 4 divorce era and she's so sick of his bs that she puts him on hold in the middle of the phone call.

Least favorite episode?
There are a few!
S1E03 "Prickly Muffin"
The thing about this episode is that conceptually, it's a really good episode. I love seeing the first explicit instance of BoJack seeing the world as a sitcom, it's one of my favourite aspects of his character. However, it wasn't as well executed as it could have been. I'm not against Sarah Lynn being bratty and melodramatic, per say, but she lacked the nuance that is gained in future episodes. I feel like some of her character history probably wasn't actually developed at this point, most significantly the fact that BoJack is (at least implied? I can't remember) to be the source of her addiction. I think this would've been fixed by having the plot where they have sex (gross) replaced with some scenes from Sarah Lynn's perspective, possibly also moving the scene where she storms out to just before the third act. I do understand that the show was more wacky at this point, however, so it maybe wouldn't have been in keeping with the tone. Also the joke where the makeup artists are doing BoJack's makeup just to for the weekend is genuinely extremely funny, I do enjoy it.
S6E11 "Xerox Of A Xerox"
UGH okok so this is a really difficult one because I LOVE some parts of this episode, namely that the entire thing is BoJack's fault. His downfall is His fault, he never should've taken the second interview, and the fact that he relapses into the fame drug so quickly shows how far he still has to go. That is BEAUTIFULLY written and one of the best parts of the entire show. But the 17 minutes thing overshadows it for me. I've spoken about the 17 minutes thing from here to kingdom come but the bottom line is that they tried so hard to cater to a very specific part of the fandom, spent so much time on that plotline, that they end up losing the point that this episode was supposed to be making. The thing that's so effective about having everything BoJack's done come back to the surface is that we suddenly see that actually, it's so many things. It's not just one thing. It's never just one thing. It's a bunch of little things that gradually make you worse, both externally and internally. The reason why Todd ended his friendship with BoJack wasn't actually really because he had sex with Emily, it's because him having sex with Emily was the straw that broke the camel's back. And this point CANNOT be made with the revelation that BoJack committed manslaughter. You can't have it both ways. It completely ruins an episode that otherwise would've been perfect.
Other than that there are a few episodes that I don't like as much as the rest, Commence Fracking being the weakest of these, but no other offensively bad ones.

Hey everyone, here's a reading comprehension test based on this post!
Are the quotes just random quotes from the show, or is there a link between them?
What do all of these quotes have in common, other than they are all from the same show?
How does the quote "when you look at someone with rose coloured glasses, all the red flags just look like flags" differ from the quotes above?
What might be the point that I am trying to make based on the common link between the quotes?
When BoJack Horseman (2014-2020) said "you can't keep doing shitty things and then feel bad about yourself like that makes it ok. you need to be better" and "all we have are the connections we make" and "I really should've thought about the view from halfway down" and "sometimes you have to take responsibility for your own happiness" and "you do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around, you turn yourself around, THAT'S what it's all about" and "things have to get worse before they can get better" and "in real life, the big gesture isn't enough, you need to be consistent" and "if we hadn't met each other until now, we wouldn't be the people we are now" and, my personal favourite, "every day it gets a little easier, but you gotta do it every day, that's the hard part, but it does get easier".

Btw I have a lot of asks in my inbox rn and a lot of them require a lot of thinking and effort, so please bear with me. Also sometimes I don't answer my asks in the order they've been sent in, because sometimes certain asks are easier to answer and sometimes certain asks only work in the context of what I'm talking about. If you've sent me an ask recently, I have received it, and I will answer it as soon as I am able.

Diane Nguyen makes me think "what's wrong with her" but like completely genuinely. Like what actually is wrong with her. What's going on in there

Guys oh my god the reason why the first 6 episodes are so sitcommy and light-hearted compared to the rest of the show is because BoJack sees the world as a sitcom. It's not a shift in genre or anything like that, because it was always a theme. The first 6 episodes are all centred around deconstructing typical sitcom plots, but they have a wackier tone because it is from BoJack's perspective. The only reason why episodes 7 and 8 are darker is because we start to see what effect that type of mindset has on other people, and the latter of the two actively forces BoJack himself to confront it. It was never just a silly comedy, you lot just can't appreciate good writing if it doesn't lie beneath low colour contrast and a few "deep quotes" lmao.
