Headcanons
I just listed in a notebook 16 of my Link Click headcanons and I came to the realisation that I'm projecting aggressively on these characters. I literally made Xia Fei part Hungarian because he seems to have foreign blood in him, he's blonde, and he lives in Europe, so there's a pretty high chance of him having a Hungarian ancestor (delusional). In my mind, he speaks the language fluently.
Speaking of Hungary, I'm also coming up with Hungarian names for each character for fun. My best friend already decided on Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi's nicknames about a year ago, but I want to add surnames too :D
(In case you're curious: Cheng Xiaoshi's Hungarian nickname is Sanyi which comes from the name Sándor. Lu Guang's is Jocó which comes from the name József.)
#link click#cheng xiaoshi#lu guang#xia fei#Hungary#man I love Hungarian culture#I should draw fanart of my favourite characters in traditional Hungarian clothing someday#I have so many ideas for fanfics too and I can never finish any of my WIPs#I have an A4 sized notebook with like 200 pages filled with them...

I'm not into vampires, but this was really funny.
"Unless he was a bat, he couldn't withstand gravity" is that right?
The skin whitening cream commercial bit made me laugh loudly xd

When Cheng Xiaoshi first met Lu Guang, Lu Guang ran away from him.
Cheng Xiaoshi was in the basketball court as soon as classes ended, and stayed there well after sundown. His muscles ached ecstatically with the hard effort, and his mind was blissfully empty of his anxious thoughts. He had played with a group of boys for two hours, and when they went home for dinner he simply played with the next group that came in after them, and another. He knew none of them, and he was safer that way.
At eight in the evening, the night had fully settled, but the basketball court was still teeming with pockets of boys squabbling for the basketball. Cheng Xiaoshi had no food in his stomach and no homework under his belt, but he refused to go home. Not until he was too tired to feel anything else.
So when Lu Guang lingered outside of the basketball court, fingers hooked around the chain link fence as he stared longingly at everyone playing basketball, Cheng Xiaoshi immediately felt the pang of empathy in his chest. He might have seen this boy before–his white hair and pale face stood out in the night like a glowstick–and each time he did, he was alone and always on the outside looking in with grey eyes hungry for company. But whenever Cheng Xiaoshi’s eye contact with him lingered, he ducked his head and darted away to the library.
Today, though, Cheng Xiaoshi resolved to have no patience for hesitation.
“Hey!” he called out to Lu Guang. He mopped the sweat from his forehead with the bottom of his shirt. “You want to join? I’m outnumbered here!”
Lu Guang froze. He looked like he had half a mind to sprint out of sight, but Cheng Xiaoshi was already jogging to the chain link fence to meet him. He unlatched the basketball court door and pushed it open.
“Come on, then!” Cheng Xiaoshi said. “You know how to play, right?”
Lu Guang stared at Cheng Xiaoshi with a mix of disbelief and hopefulness. He took a tentative step through the entryway and hesitated, as if waiting for some trap door to be triggered. Obviously, there was none, and he took another step.
Cheng Xiaoshi tossed the ball at him. Now that Lu Guang stood in the full light of the floodlights, Cheng Xiaoshi was stunned by how pale he was, like he had walked straight out of a skin whitening cream commercial. Qiao Ling frequently wasted her money on such a skin product, and Cheng Xiaoshi nagged at her for it. No one is that white in real life, he poked at her whenever she fawned over advertisements. They obviously do some photoshop on it. Well, apparently he had to eat his words. Not that he would ever tell her that.
“Let’s go!” Cheng Xiaoshi said with a grin.
Without uttering a word, Lu Guang’s entire countenance brightened. He immediately began dribbling the ball and launched headfirst into the game.
Cheng Xiaoshi would have been content to play with Lu Guang as his teammate if Lu Guang turned out to be hopeless in the sport. He had satisfied his bruised ego the first two or so hours of playing basketball today, anyway, and it would be unfair to invite a new kid to play with him and then demand that he be good enough for it. But that was hardly necessary. Lu Guang was fast, darting and weaving past the opposing two players for Cheng Xiaoshi to find an opening. He leapt to catch the ball with astonishing height, nearly soaring as he flung the ball to the basket. Cheng Xiaoshi whooped as Lu Guang, who looked flabbergasted at his own success, made another basket.
“You’re incredible!” Cheng Xiaoshi hollered. He flung his arm around Lu Guang’s shoulder as the other two players melted into a sweaty puddle on the court after being defeated ten to nil. “Are you secretly a CBA star?”
Lu Guang ruffled with self-consciousness, but he did not shrug off Cheng Xiaoshi’s arm.
“I just have a good team member,” he mumbled.
Cheng Xiaoshi barked with laughter.
“Come off it,” he said. “You’re good. Hey, let me see if I can get past you. One versus one, just for a basket or two.”
Lu Guang nodded. The other two players sluggishly rolled out of the way to nurse their sportsmanship as Cheng Xiaoshi dribbled the ball at half-court. Lu Guang readied his stance between Cheng Xiaoshi and the hoop. There was something both graceful and feral about the way his muscles grew taut in preparation, like watching a predator in the savannah ready its hind legs to pounce. The challenge of it excited Cheng Xiaoshi, as did the excuse to keep on playing, and not go home.
“Don’t go easy on me, okay?” Cheng Xiaoshi said.
“Of course not,” Lu Guang said.
Cheng Xiaoshi already leapt into action before Lu Guang finished speaking. He raced forward, dribbling the ball with fluid control as he tried to pass Lu Guang. Lu Guang lunged at him. Cheng Xiaoshi swung himself to the side. He pressed against the friction of his trainers as he sprinted forward, feeling Lu Guang’s sharp fingernails trace the back of his shirt in an effort to catch him.
He sprang from the floor, pushing the basketball upwards towards the basket, before Lu Guang swiped at the ball. Cheng Xiaoshi yelled in effort as he landed sharply on the court and Lu Guang darted back to the half court line. No time to stand amazed–Cheng Xiaoshi sprinted ahead, counting the rhythm of Lu Guang’s dribbling and interrupting at just the right beat to steal the ball back. His success only lasted several seconds–just as he was about to launch the basketball towards the basket, Lu Guang caught the ball in midair and they returned to square one.
Cheng Xiaoshi grinned. Lu Guang’s brow was furrowed with sweaty concentration. Good. He was making Lu Guang put up a fight.
Lu Guang was flying towards the basket now. Cheng Xiaoshi hurled himself forward, determined to knock the ball off its course. Lu Guang may have animalistic strength, but unless he was a bat he couldn’t withstand gravity.
Cheng Xiaoshi jumped. He stretched his hand high just as Lu Guang flung himself forward to dunk the ball into the basket. His fingertips knocked the ball out of its orbit. Cheng Xiaoshi let out a breath of exhilaration.
Of course, he couldn’t withstand gravity either.
Lu Guang yelped as his descent knocked against Cheng Xiaoshi. Cheng Xiaoshi had only milliseconds to realise what was happening before Lu Guang accidentally slammed against Cheng Xiaoshi, and the both of them fell against the court with an unceremonious thud. Cheng Xiaoshi got the wind knocked out of him as he skidded against the ground and felt something sharp scrape against his forearm.
“Hey! You guys all right?”
The other players came jogging to their rescue. Lu Guang rolled off of Cheng Xiaoshi, who had borne most of the brunt of the fall. Cheng Xiaoshi groaned as Lu Guang hovered fervently.
“Did you bump your head?” Lu Guang demanded. “Did you land on your arm? How many fingers am I holding up?”
This was the greatest number of words that Cheng Xiaoshi heard Lu Guang string together. It would make him laugh if his head wasn’t spinning.
“A thousand,” he grumbled, swatting Lu Guang’s hand away. “I’m fine, don’t worry about it–”
Lu Guang froze. His eyes were fixed on Cheng Xiaoshi’s arm that was waving over his face. Cheng Xiaoshi thought nothing of it as he pushed himself into a sitting position, until he caught a glimpse of the flash of red on his own skin. He blinked bemusedly before his rattled mind put the pieces together. There must have been some jagged bits of rock on the court, and he had cut his arm against them as he fell.
“Aw, crap,” he mumbled.
He held his arm up and tried to tilt it so that the beads of blood would not trickle down to his sleeves bunched at his elbow. At the slight movement, Lu Guang jerked back. His throat shook as he swallowed hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing up and down his neck nervously. His pupils dilated at the sight of Cheng Xiaoshi’s cut, and his limbs clenched as if he was squeezed under the atmosphere’s pressure.
Squirming under the attention, Cheng Xiaoshi tried to crack a smile.
“Don’t faint on me, Lu Guang,” he teased. “None of us are good enough at first aid to handle that.”
He hoped Lu Guang would laugh. Or bristle in indignation and haul Cheng Xiaoshi back onto his feet. Instead, as Cheng Xiaoshi was reaching in his back pocket for the plasters he always carried around, Lu Guang scrambled onto his feet and ran away.
“Damn,” said one of the other players as Cheng Xiaoshi stared flabbergasted at the dust in Lu Guang’s wake. “What’s his problem?”
Cheng Xiaoshi shook his head. He tore open one of the plasters with his teeth.
“Guess he’s squeamish,” he said. “Help me get those rocks out of the way, will you? Before someone gets hurt.”

I'm rewatching Link Click season 1 in dub with my sister and at the beginning of episode 9 Xiao Li calls Chen Bin an idiot angrily and I jokingly made a comment about how much they felt like Lu Guang and Cheng Xiaoshi in that moment. And then I realised that chen Bin dies in season 2. What a wierd coincidence, huh?
Also, the cop characters are underrated. Xiao Li is my absolute favourite character.
