The family urgently needs transportation to escape, but it costs around $904 USD.

every time I mention how many days sober I am I appreciate people congratulating me and telling me to keep up the good work. it is nice. but I also wish that milestones in addiction recovery weren’t still so pinned to length of sobriety/abstinence

yeah yeah I’m 50 days sober who cares. how about the fact that, when I do drink, it tends to be nipped in the bud after two days nowadays instead of weeks or months? how about the fact that drinking has been condensed to a six pack because I’m at the end of my tether, instead of browning out every night? how about my friend who has decided to stop drinking alone, and is actually sticking to that? recovery doesn’t always look like sobriety and I wish it was more normal to talk about that. yknow. when addiction is normal to talk about at all

So I've done my first aid + CPR a few times. And every single time I try and bring up scenarios for fat folks

Specifically like 'what if someone is too large for me to wrap my arms around then to do the heimleich'

And its incredibly rare I get a decent answer.

How absolutely insane is it that me, as a fat person, is asking how to have MY life saved or to save ANOTHER life, is an impossible feat if someone is fat.

Most of the time they tell me to 'just try anyways uwu'

I’m thinking about Wicked tonight, specifically why Elphaba ends up with Fiyero instead of Glinda in the musical despite Elphaba and Glinda having the more well-rounded relationship.

You could chalk it up to the writers wanting a heteronormative ending (and I’m certain that’s part of it) or the fact that Elphaba and Fiyero had a love affair in the book. But I think there’s a bit more nuance to it.

The whole point of Glinda’s character is that she upholds the status quo of Oz. No matter how much she loves Elphaba or sympathizes with the plight of the Animals, she will always align herself with the current system and those in power. And as long as that remains the case, a relationship between her and Elphaba is futile because Elphaba will not give up her cause.

Elphaba and Glinda represent to different ends of a spectrum. Elphaba resists the oppressive forces in Oz, while Glinda upholds them. But Fiyero is somewhere in the middle. He starts out privileged and carefree like Glinda, but quickly turns to Elphaba’s side. He does become Captain of the Guard, but only to find Elphaba and help her evade arrest.

And therein lies the difference between Glinda and Fiyero as love interests to Elphaba. Glinda would never sacrifice her title as “the Good Witch” and all her power granted from the Wizard, even if it meant helping Elphaba. Fiyero, on the other hand, does give up his privilege, his title, and even his human form for Elphaba. Glinda clings to what the status quo gives her, while Fiyero ultimately rejects it.

Yes, the writing around Elphaba and Fiyero’s romance is a bit rushed and doesn’t have the same gradual development that Elphaba and Glinda have. And yes, I have no doubt heteronormativity played a role in giving Elphaba a male love interest in the end. But I see a lot of people write off Fiyero and his relationship with Elphaba and I just don’t agree.

Why does Elphaba end up with Fiyero instead of Glinda? Because Fiyero makes the sacrifices that Glinda wasn’t willing to.

The "Sansa reminds Sandor of his sister" motive that some people try to hitch to his character really just flies in the face of his actual attachments to her, doesn't it? Sansa reminds Sandor of himself. He sees the little boy who used to love knights in this girl who's been swept up by the same romanticism. He sees his abuser in her abusers, the much larger knight(s) beating on the helpless child. He sees how she is betrayed by every level of authority that should have saved her and remembers his father's neglect and Tywin and Robert's apathy for Gregor's crimes. He's protective of Sansa because he was Sansa.

And GRRM's design, that one of the strongest warriors in the series, a fearsome and cynical 6'8" guy who's "muscled like a bull" and has the face of death itself, sees himself in this soft and effeminate teen girl, and empathizes with her because he was an abuse victim too, is INFINITELY more compelling than "Oh yeah I bet she just reminds him of his sister," who he's never mentioned and who we know literally nothing about. Way to unnecessarily water down a character, you couldn't have ignored the black and white text more efficiently if you tried.

I'm convinced that anyone that engages in arya x sansa discourse HAS to be an only child because like my brother literally stabbed me in the leg with a pair of childproof scissors when we were little and he's still my favourite person in the world. siblings are like that you fight and call each other awful things sometimes but in the end no one gets you like them. if arya and sansa ever reunite (and god PLEASE let them reunite) I'm sure they'll both break down crying because they miss and love each other SO MUCH. it doesn't matter that sansa used to treat arya like a stinky stray cat and a general nuisance she had to put up with or that arya used to belittle sansa all the time for being girly and uptight. at the end of the day all they have is each other.

and also you can't possibly read "the lone wolf dies but the pack survives" referring EXPLICITLY to arya and sansa's relationship and genuinely believe mr. martin is cooking up some stark in-fighting endgame scenario stop the bullshit

you're all just projecting into these kids and that's all fine and normal I do it too but please just admit that's what you're doing and stop pretending any of this comes from a place of genuine analysis of the text. sansa is NOT your elementary school bully who used to make fun of you for not conforming to societal expectations of gender and arya is NOT that annoying girl from your english class that only hung out with boys and made you feel inferior for liking traditionally girly things. I too have met both of these people and been in the receiving end of their torment. shit I won't even pretend I've never made fun of other girls for talking about boys and make up when I was a child just because I was nerdy and insecure about not being interested in either of those things. but we were all 13 and I don't hold any resentment towards any of these girls because I'm an adult now and understand we were all just suffering through gender hell together. and I especially don't project my poorly addressed teenage trauma unto MADE UP CHILDREN.

sansa and arya are both fictional characters that serve the explicit narrative purposes of exploring family dynamics and conflicting gender performances in a made up medieval society with dragons direwolves and red-haired zombies that haunt the riverlands written by a white man from new jersey none of this is real.

you don't have to LIKE both of them. you can have your preferences and biases (I myself like arya more than sansa even though both of them are in my top 5). you could hate them BOTH for all I care and I won't even say it's just because of misogyny. I understand if you have trouble connecting to their POVs (specially sansa's because it's so introspective) or find them annoying. they are pre-teens they both annoy me sometimes. but maybe if you tried looking at them as CHARACTERS first and reflecting on what the text is trying to say with their story and what purpose their initial animosity towards each other serves in the narrative you could perhaps gain a new perspective on this series we all claim to love so much istead of wasting your time and energy fighting in this pretend gender war.

oh and while we're at it (and because I can't make a post without talking about her apparently) catelyn didn't hate arya or unjustly favor sansa over her btw where the fuck did some of her stans get that from??? of course she did try to make her conform to society and act like a proper lady which sucks for arya I guess I also hated when my mom did that. but like it is an extremely patriarchal society where women need to act proper and secure a good match if they want to live a comfortable life she was just trying to save her daughter some grief! the only reason she spends more time yearning for sansa and begging people to bring her home in the books is because EVERYONE is 100% convinced that arya died in the red keep and is buried in an unmarked grave somewhere in the streets of kingslanding and EVEN STILL she begs jaime and brienne to bring BOTH of her daughters home!!!

and do you know what she does when she finds out arya is still alive as lady stoneheart??? SHE GOES LOOKING FOR HER! she is caught up in this whole murderous vengeful crusade against her opps AND STILL she's trying to pinpoint her daughter's whereabouts and asking the people she's about to hang if they've seen her!

cat sees and loves arya for who she is, even if she gets frustrated by her behaviour at times. she evens sees her features reflected on the warrior's figure when she goes to the spet, showing she is aware of and respects her daughter's nature!

stop hating on cat just because she isn't the perfect loving mother all the time you guys are upholding the same traditional gender norms and expectations you claim to be fighting against when you do that!!!
