Today I went to a pride parade for the first time and it honestly changed my world view.

Seriously.

Seeing all those flags on and around everyone, smiles, laughter and music-

All embracing— celebrating something I've been told my whole life was wrong and disgusting.

And yet, here it is, front and center, loud and proud, and somehow I finally feel like I belong somewhere.

I could cry thinking about it.

I got myself an aromantic flag and wore it like a cape, marching through the city without a damn care in the world while singing along to Lady Gaga.

But then when it was time to come home, I hid the flag I bought. I put it away, in the back of my closet (quite fitting isn't it?), despite how proudly I wore it around town.

I was proud. I was loud. I was still embraced.

Now, I'm ashamed. I feel like a traitor on both sides.

How could I be proud when I'm afraid I'll lose my home?

How could I be honest when my own mother calls people like myself unlovable?

I wish I could go back.

I wish the day never ended

you ever think about that time when lync talked about not understanding selflessness but wanting to understand and how alice's home might be where he belonged. how the idea of lync finding happiness triggered hydron to the point of projecting his insecurities ("no one wants you! no matter what you do, no one will care. you don't belong anywhere!") onto lync because he resented the possibility of anyone from his group being able to better their situation by escaping and leaving him to suffer with his father.
