Day 1 - Dubai Optimist International Open Regatta
The Dubai Optimist International Open Regatta  started with a bright and breezy day. Perfect for our optimist sailors to take to the water to start racing on time.
The first race got underway with an even spread across the start line and up to the windward mark. The wind became a bit flukey with lulls working their way down the race course. It was decided to shorten the course so as not to run over the time limit set by the Sailing Instructions.  The UAE, home water sailors, took advantage of the conditions and recorded a 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
Race 2 got underway, after some adjustment to the course. Over the race the wind was shifty, but built in pressure. The first boat finished on 51 minutes.  Races 3 and 4 were all along the same lines and racing and results were all finished by 1700. A fantastic day of racing for day 1. Hopefully the weather stays in for the remaining days.

Dubai Optimist International Open Regatta 2015 #DOIOR
Over the holiday season Dubai Offshore Sailing Club, is playing host to the Dubai Optimist International Open Regatta.  An event that sees Dubai welcome sailors from around the globe to test their skill, strategy and wits against the elements, as well as the UAEs very own homegrown talent.
Last season saw the inaugural Dubai Optimist Invitational, which had visiting sailors from Australia participate.  It was a great success and the word has spread across Asia and Europe of the fantastic conditions that are experienced in the UAE at this time of year.  Following the achievements from last year the event has grown and developed into the Dubai Optimist International Open Regatta, which is fully endorsed by the Dubai Sports Council.
The event has grown into the International Open Regatta, and aspects of the event have been added.  Currently DOSC is running an International Training Clinic for 5 days before the Regatta.  The pedigree of coaching is among the highest from around the world, with Pippa Kenton-Page (formally Wilson) Gold Medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics joined by Cyril Auer whom has coached Swiss and German teams at a National level, leading the coaching on offer.
The racing event starts on the 27th December 2015, and runs until the 30th December.  Dubai Offshore Sailing Club will be welcoming 20 International Sailors, who originate from Switzerland, Germany, Belgium and Sri Lanka, to name but a few.  Along with the UAE sailors, they will experience up to 4 races a day culminating in a medal race for the top 10 sailors of the event on the final day.
