hi thank you for your ask i'm so honored! i am probably totally unqualified to answer your question but i'd love to tell you a little about how i kind of like to "cheat" my way through rendering/colors :-)

this is likely to be obvious to most people, but the way i render usually comes down to combining a textured brush that allows me to layer values + a liberal (and i mean LIBERAL) usage of gradient maps

textured brushes on procreate are my default go-tos for rendering because it gives me really good control with pen pressure to start off with good variation in value, but this is really based on personal preference.

i mostly pay attention to the difference in value, since i'm going into this knowing they will have gradient maps applied after. i pay most attention to the "midtones" since the change in hue is most reflected there and i find that to be the most visually interesting!

i try to make my own gradient maps based on what the "vibe" is for the final piece but procreate has a bunch of default ones that are crazy fun. usually this is where i get experimental and sometimes i can even layer ~5-10 maps very very subtly with various blending modes. sometimes there's no logic behind it and just kind of like haha big color go brrr, but i try to pay most attention to making gradient maps that give lots of hue variation from the midtone->shadow shift, since they end up creating the most interesting results.
