DOUBLE DECKER’s director, Jouji Furuta, has been sharing some doodle art over on his Twitter (or are we calling it an “X account” now?) of the members of the SEVEN-O unit, in celebration of the upcoming 5th anniversary, which will be on the 30th September 2023.
Let’s hope we get a little something for the anniversary🤞

Today (20th May) the official DOUBLE DECKER! Twitter wishes a happy birthday to Derrick!
Tumblr media
DD! manga’s illustrator, Mizuki Sakakibara drew art to celebrate.
Tumblr media
And Series’ Script Writer, Erika Yoshida, wrote a short unofficial drabble for fun:
“Today is Derrick's birthday🥃🫘🍟.
Fine dining, a transport limousine, a bar with a night view and a hotel suite✨ Derrick booked all the good old birthday plans himself!
He asks Milla to spend the day with him, but she refuses, saying she has other things to do. Downhearted, he decides to spend his birthday with Doug!
Meanwhile, the whole Seven-O and Milla are preparing for Derrick's surprise party. Doug is supposed to bring Derrick on the way, but Doug is unexpectedly drunk. What's more, Derrick and his friends get caught up in a robbery!
Narrative: 'It's all an unofficial fantasy!'
And I love #Dubdeka and Derrick so much that I write these fantasies. Congrats!!!”

One of the series’ animators, Mika Yamamoto, has been reposting some of her older DOUBLE DECKER! art that she drew whilst the series was initially airing. Interestingly in the tweet, there is a conversation between Yamamoto and other series’ staff, Rumiko Nagai (in charge of the series’ colour design), Jouji Furuta (series’ director) and Erika Yoshida (series’ scriptwriter). They were casually discussing what they would like to see in a sequel e.g. The Landlord Lady’s youth, Doug and Derrick partnering up etc. Erika Yoshida also mentioned about collecting material for a potential second season.
So although this is absolutely not a confirmation of a sequel series currently being in the works, it’s slightly reassuring to see that some of the main existing staff would like to see some sort of follow up to the original series. Let’s hope that SUNRISE agrees and makes that into a reality some day!
