Short Hiatus : Broke my Leg
Dear EVERYONE.  I miss Tumblr soo much!  This all started as a small break for the holidays.  It turned out with three bad breaks in my leg from poor ice skating.  As of yet, it is still hard to even sit up to type.  I’ll be healing well after 2 plates and 8 screws.  I will return as soon as possible, I promise.  I wish I was writing right now, but I just can’t.
Thanks everyone, please don’t give up on me.

She caught Jane by the wrist as the woman stood up, and looked hard into her eyes.  Maura wasn’t about to let Jane minimize her skills or her mind, not for one minute.
“Jane.  You do what you do better than anyone I know.  I think you don’t want to admit you understand them, but you do.  That is how you catch them.” She said smiling, then let her go.
Jane didn’t respond much, she tended to brush off such compliments.  Or use humor to defray the situation.  Maura stood up next to her.
“We’re taking my car, and I’ll get us out of the city.  You can drive where there are fewer people to annoy you.  I had a very refreshing night’s sleep thank you.  How about you?” She asked as they headed out, luggage in tow.  She didn’t bother picking up her small case, as Jane had only one and therefore a free hand.
72 Hours
Jane was about to respond to Maura’s logical and concise as ever teasing when the subject had turned more towards the business. Statistics began to fire out one after another.
“Neither do I. But one thing to do with a creep is to put them in a jail. That’s all that I understand.” Jane murmured before rising up from her seat.
“Hey, Wikipedia, you want to drive or should I take the wheel? You look like you could use some rest or some meditation as you often prefer so.”

“Hey.” she head first responded, giving Jane the eye. “Why not? You’re bringing your things.  Your gun, your handcuffs, things that are not my favorites, why can’t I bring along biological samples.”  Maura first put her hands up, then dropped them to her side to show how fair she was being.  Then she bumped her arm to arm as she rocked near her to encourage Jane to defend herself.  All the while she knew they were half teasing  each other.
She enjoyed that sort of conversation..  Maura looked up into Jane’s, Cool, calm and collected.
“It’s 453 miles from here,  South and East of here, so 7 hours with me driving.  Jane, .05 of the population, give or take .004, has a fetish that is unacceptable even amongst the ‘leather ‘ population.”
Her face became wide eyed and serious.
“I don’t understand them.”  she gave a rather aching smile to her friend. “But I know someone who can find them and stop them.” Maura gave a thrust of her chin.
“We have to find this one.  He’s gone even farther than even taboo.  Lets go get started.  Maura through back her head  and finished her coffee, putting it quietly back down when she was done.
72 Hours
Maura corrected her. Precision of an admirable sort that Jane had always marveled at.
“I am sure it would. But are we really traveling with that? Since when did we become a driving forensic lab?” She queried with a snicker.
“I wonder what twisted mind could be driven to commit act like this. But then again, that’s what they are, aren’t they? Twisted minds. How long is the journey you said?”

Her tall friend’s voice was even huskier in the morning. Very pleasant.
It would be easy to tease her friend some more, but she’d rather just enjoy her.   She was then wondering how they could be so the same and so different at the same time.  What went through that sharp mind of hers?  Certainly not extensive packing skills.  Just once she’d love to peer at Jane from the inside.
The Detective mellowed a little as she got her first sip of coffee in her.  Maura casually saluted her with her own and took a long drink that soothed the soul.
“Not the same weapon Jane. A similar weapon.” She corrected, now playing with the warmth of her paper cup between her hands.  “We won’t know if it’s the same until I get there and get a closer look at the victim.  I sure the team up north did a fine job, but there needs to be an actual microscopic comparison before we can be certain.  I’ve brought a series of statistics, images, and samples from the local victims.” She patted her own pet suitcase where fragments of shattered bone and torn skin were packed within enough liquid nitrogen to last the journey.
“That should narrow it down.”
72 Hours
Jane raised an eyebrow at the statistic. Really, by now she should have been used to Maura rattling such facts completely out of the blue but evidently, she had not. She kept her awkwardly stuff [and more than likely about to burst at seams] backpack on a chair and pointed at it.
“I have everything I need stuffed in there and I am pretty sure I can find what I need in there when the right moment comes.”
Jane slid in her chair as she patted on the backpack as if it were some sort of pet before adjusting the zip some. She took a sip of the coffee that was offered to her by Maura, who seemed to anticipate her every need somehow. Jane didn’t want to find out an answer to that, but she was fine with it.
“Mm…that’s nice.” She nodded at Maura who moved the subject to business for the time being.
“I think so. Similar wounds, use of the same weapon, body parts targeted are the same. Little to no trace of other evidence or presence of the perp. I don’t see why not? Unless we have a copycat. But the real question is, why were those people targeted? Mostly well meaning, law abiding citizens. Was there a pattern to it or merely victims of circumstance, random choosing?”
