Just finished the most hectic set of duties since the start of residency. But had the most learning during this week.

Also I recently moved to a new place, had a lot of packing, unpacking and organising works which are still not done. Looking forward to more sleepless nights🫠

Would appreciate any advice you've got regarding dealing with the third year of mbbs ☺

Helloo! Third year was my favourite year because I had good time to focus on my extra curricular as well as the academics. I would suggest to revise your basics from first and second year and prime yourselves to the final year subjects during this period, so that you are not clueless about the final year subjects. And for third year, keep studying the subjects during your rotation as they relatively smaller subjects hence easier to cover. I studied them only during my postings and during my study holidays and I did surprisingly very well.

Studied about vitamin D because every other children I see is in deficiency or insufficiency.

Also a barium meal study that shows another finding outside GI tract.

Visited the Van Gogh experience today. Really enjoyed the time spent there.

Was a regular day till 5pm until a sick case got shifted to ward right before leaving. I got to leave the hospital only at 10pm (I know it is quite common for residents to leave that late in a medical college but as a DNB resident my working hours are usually sane). I wasn’t hungry in the afternoon so I skipped my lunch, what a silly mistake, I had my next meal at 11pm. I got to eat egg puffs in between with some cadbury hot chocolate (these two are my regulars from the cafeteria) . Then I got home and spend some time removing copyright images and reproducing them by redrawing them again for a book that my H.O.D is publishing, while sitting in the balcony.

It was busy busy day but surprisingly not a tiring one.

Post duties and date nights✨

Past 10 days have been very hectic because I have been having back to back 36 hours shifts. Seniors are having their exams and us , first year residents are left to take care of the wards alone.

Got some free time yesterday so I hung out with my bf. Got to roam around the city and eat good food.

Today I chose to take some rest and start my thesis protocol (yes i failed my February goal)

Tomorrow awaits another duty day.

After failing to photo dump for several months, here I am back with a new dump for the week.

My institute has not conducted our ethical committee meet and my thesis protocol is still incomplete, but my protocol submission date was like 10 days ago lol.

Had a major life event, (which I will update later) which is why I couldn’t proceed with my protocol on time.

So the goal for february is very simple

- to complete my thesis protocol.

- to not lose my mind.

I wont call myself an usmle aspirant, but I am preparing overseas accreditation. A series of events happened and my step1 is indefinitely postponed.

Ma'am any tips for second year? Also how did you make notes for pathology?

Advice for the next year? Follow whatever you did in the first year. Don’t let go of the basics.

For pathology, always study with images and make notes with diagram and flow charts. Practice histology drawings for whatever topics possible. Your diagrams and flowcharts should answer 80percent of the topic asked.

Had an eventful 15days.

Cousin got married.

Visited home town and got to spend time with family and this monkey girl

Got acute tonsillitis and fell sick for 4 days straight.

Got hit by the cyclone and stuck in my hospital for 72hours straight.

Have not studied anything for 3 weeks

Happy Diwali to those who celebrate🪔

It stuck me that this would be the first Diwali that I am celebrating away from home and I was feeling a bit glum. Had some food at Starbucks and went to the hospital to get some work done at the MRD. It is one of the most primitive yet the most interesting place to exist. Since it was a holiday there were few staffs working around and the place was free of noises. Then I did my evening ward rounds, most of the patients I was taking care of were stable and I got off work soon. So currently I am just sitting at home back to being the glum self again.

I was down with a bad flu last week. But I continued to push through my duties. I was too tired to walk back home and decided to take autorickshaws everyday and those 2 mins ride were the best past of my day. Also not to forget about how my mom updates me everyday on my cat and the garden. Currently these are the little things that I live for.
