The journey of giving my warrior cats ocs realistic genetics.

WARNING THIS POST WILL BE LONG.

Recently, I've gotten really into learning about cat genetics, and as a warrior cats fan would, I wanted to test it out on my characters. My main three ocs are all siblings and have established parents, so I figured it would be fun to try and see how it would work. However, NONE of these cats have designs that are even possible, due to years of adding little stylistic details and the main one originally just being my Roblox warrior cats ultimate edition character. I figure before I start my descent into madness, I should probably introduce the original normal designs of all of the characters I'm trying to figure out.

Parsnipheart/Parsnipvine/Parsnipfur: Even though I've had her for about 2-3 years now I still can't figure out her suffix. So for the sake of simplicity I'll just call her Parsnip here lol. She was my original oc, and all of the others started as another addition to her story. She started as wcue morph that I ended up really liking and using as my main. In fact, I still use an updated version of it.

This is her original design, since I still have it saved. Already not looking very easy, but her current design makes it worse.

In the design I draw her with, she has a fully black tail and a darker splotch around her right eye. And all of the siblings have darker or just straight up black paws.

Snakespring- Parsnip's brother. He's meant to look like their mother, Foxtail. He is a ginger cat with a white underbelly, black ear tips, black paws, black freckles, and a few splotches of black on his back. He also has a mane and white ear tufts.

Fluffycloud- The problem. She is Parsnip and Snakespring's evil sister and as time goes on she gets more and more impossible. One of the only things from her original design she has kept other than her fluffiness was her blue eyes. She is mostly white, with a dark reddish ginger mane, paws, and ear tufts. I also draw her with a big tuft of the dark reddish fur over her right eye like the emo girl she is. I don't think there really is a way to make her realistic without changing her whole design.

Foxtail- The three sibling's mother. She looks pretty much exactly like Snakespring except she has a bit more black splotches.

Sagestorm- So he's the father, and he's supposed to kind of resemble Parsnip. And I have been imagining him to be either cream or fawn and be a spotted tabby with dark brown spots. He is also huge and fluffy. However in the allegiances of the abandoned fanfic I made of them I only list him as a "Fluffy pale brown tom with specks of darker brown" so technically that could just make him a normal black tabby. Hopefully I wont have to resort to that..

NOW FOR THE GENETICS.

Foxtail is easy. She's just a black and ginger tortoiseshell with a white underbelly.

She has long fur, so she has l/l which is passed on to all of her children.

Her black doesn't have stripes, so she has a/a, and since she is a tortie she is O/o. Her black is just normal black, which is dominant, so I'm going to just put that and leave the recessive blank for now in case we need it later, so B/?. She isn't dilute, however Parsnip might need to be, so I'll hide it in there. D/d

She has high white, so S/S.

She is not a color point so C/? I'm leaving the second one blank because I may need it later

Sagestorm is a problem, but not too bad. While he does have to resemble Parsnip physically, I can't really do it genetically. I think maybe I could make his dark flecks happen by adding inhibitor but I don't really understand how it works. I've decided he is just going to be a fawn speckled tabby. I don't want to do anything too fancy with him. He does not have any white, so W/W. He has long fur, so l/l. He is fawn, which is dilute cinnamon. Cinnamon is recessive to both black and chocolate so he has two have two of them. So he has b1/b1 and d/d. He is not colorpoint, so C/?. He has stripes so he's A/?. Again I'm leaving it blank just in case I need it. I want him to be mackerel, so Mc/?. Thats all I'm going to do with him for now.

Parsnip is a bit confusing. She is pale brown, with darker splotches. However, her splotches differentiate between two shades of brown. She also cannot have her black paws, unless we want to make her a black tabby or a normal black and ginger tortoiseshell. I do not want to do either of those. I don't really want her to have any ginger, but she has too since she is a tortie, so she has to be dilute that way she can have cream instead. I don't think she can really have her splotches the way she does without this, so I'm making her a calico that way her splotches can have two colors. Now the question is what black base do I give her? Since I left one of Foxtail's blank she can have any of them. Giving her the normal black would make it gray since she is dilute, which I don't really think would work. Chocolate becomes lilac when diluted and from what I've seen it also looks pretty gray when contrasted with cream. That leaves cinnamon, aka fawn since its diluted. Fawn and cream look very similar, but this is the closest we are getting. I'm gonna make her a mackerel tabby, though it doesn't really matter. Also this means that Foxtail is carrying b1 under her B now. So here are her genes.

However, I have an alternative to this.

I COULD make her a fawn colorpoint. You may be thinking "That would barely even resemble the original design" and you would be right. But it doesn't feel incorrect to the character. The problem, is that she would have to have blue eyes, unless I make her a mink or a sepia. However, for reasons that will be elaborated later, I CAN'T, because since her parents are solid color, if they are carrying any of the color point genes, any color point children they have would have to be all the same type of colorpoint. This issue CAN be solved if I were to make one of the parents color point. It feels less disruptive to give it to Sagestorm, so for this model I am going to make him a mink cat, meaning now instead of C/? he has cs/cb. I am also going to have Foxtail carry one as well, it can be either one but I'm going to have her carry Siamese, so she has C/cs. This means that Parsnip can inherit cs and cb making her a mink colorpoint cat, meaning she has green eyes instead of blue. Colorpoint Parsnip's genes look like this

Snakespring-

So, the only way for Snakespring to keep his design is to make him a tortie. Of course, male torties are very rare, but not impossible. However, all male torties are intersex. So my question was do I make him trans masc, or intersex? Neither of which I really have a problem with for him, and I honestly like both options. I asked a friend which one I should do, and they said intersex, so there it is.

Fluffycloud-

She is a problem. I have already decided she is colorpoint siamese. She can't be mink because she HAS to have blue eyes, so thats why in order for Parsnip to be colorpoint mink Sagestorm had to be as well. Since Fluffycloud is colorpoint, she can keep her darker paws and tail. The problem is that they are supposed to be red. The closest I could get to the shade of red she has is making her a Somali. However for one think I don't think you can have a cat be colorpoint and a Somali. Also it makes no sense where would she get it from? So I'm going to have to settle for something else instead. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to just make her ginger. It's the closest I can get. She is also going to look a lot like Parsnip, which does kind of work because when I originally made her, I made her look almost exactly like Parsnip except she had blue eyes, was slightly fluffier, and had slightly different markings. She was kind of just there to be the snowfur to Parsnip's Bluestar at that point and Snakespring didn't exist yet.

I just now realized Fluffy cloud can't actually be ginger because between both her parents only one O can be passed down.... shit. Well. I guess I could just make her cinnamon. That might actually work better. Alright here are her genes

Say hello to Hvitur, man I got attached to because he was the first to die.

Headcanons:

Hvitur wears a lot of dark clothing to hide his scales. The Talon of Peace has so few IceWings and, as a war-time spy for a neutral party, Hvitur immediately stands out. When he covers up and hides his face and tail, he could pass as a really pale SandWing, and that allows him to get around mostly undetected.

He was just really sweet and helpful. Was a good friend to a lot of Talons of Peace members and took their cause very seriously.

Used to be a low ranking IceWing and served as a medic in the war before defecting because he couldn’t stand the violence, joining the Talons in their quest for peace and the end of the war.

Was very excited about the prophecy, and ecstatic when he was chosen to be one of the Guardians. Put the most work into creating a space that the dragonets could grow up comfortably and happy, even if they were living underground. The one to collect the most scrolls, blankets, and dragonet toys for them to use when they hatched.

They got the NightWing egg earlier than any other egg from Morrowseer, and Hvitur was the one to come up with the name Starflight.

Offered to get the SkyWing’s egg in place of a Kestrel when he saw Ketsrel hesitate on going back to the Sky Kingdom. Said that he’d be back before she knew it, SkyWing egg in hand. And…well. Neither him nor the egg made it back.
