Note
for the book asks: 1, 2, 8, 35, 43!
1 (Favorite book this year): Probably Unraveller by Frances Hardinge. Every one of her books I've read has rewritten my brain in the best way.
2 (Favorite fantasy book): this is SO HARD because fantasy is my favorite genre...but it's gotta be either Night Watch by Terry Pratchett, or Lady Knight by Tamora Pierce.
8 (Favorite queer fiction book): Loveless by Alice Oseman made me cry at work.
35 (Least favorite trope in my most favorite genre): not strictly limited to fantasy, but i'm now Tired of love triangles after reading more and more books that resolve them with polyamory.
43 (Book I own in the worst physical condition): Definitely my copy of First Test, by Tamora Pierce. The recycling center in my hometown had a trailer full of used books that people didn't want anymore and you could just take anything you wanted, and that's where I got mine. The first forty or so pages are falling out of the binding, and one page is ripped in half horizontally, but it's the one I got personalized when I met Tamora Pierce in Boston.

didn't include this because i was limited to four lines of lyrics but. this is also part of my Feelings about this song
Feeling Emotions Song Tournament Round 1
Sometimes a song just hits you right in the heart and might even find you falling to the floor in tears. Or the joy it brings you is so palpable you can't help but dance. Submitters were asked to include propaganda to make their case for why their choice was the most emotional song and now you get to vote!
I Will Never Forget propaganda by @len-the-neverending:
youtube
Go find a lover who will never leave Fear of abandonment, self-hate, and discontent Will go away when you let yourself grieve, and forget about me, forget about me, forget about me How could I ever forget?
This song singlehandedly got me through the most traumatic year of my life. When Kimya breaks down in the bridge I feel like I want to break down.
The Gambler propaganda by @draconiclore:
youtube
And you turned, put your your hand And you asked me to dance I knew nothing of romance But it was love at second sight
this song fills me with so much warmth and joy and love for the concepts of family and love and homes

I looooove the shit that's like
"You have the power to possess me and take over my body but you don't because you respect me"
because it can lead to
"I'll let you possess me and take over my body when necessary because I trust you"

great ways to support your local public library in addition to getting a library card:
if you are in the US, call your congresspeople and tell them to oppose the executive order defunding IMLS. IMLS provides funding to libraries across the country through grants that allow us to do things like provide broadband access to rural communities, offer ebook options, or host author talks
*use* your library card! check out books, games, magazines, music, whatever. Even if you don't finish it (even if you never start it). want to see more queer books in libraries? check out the ones they already have. show that there's a demand in the community.
talk to librarians! ask us questions! one of the statistics that my library collects, a couple times a year, is what we call "reference interactions"--any question where we have to look something up for a patron (including where a book is on the shelf, or providing recommendations.) And I know my and many other librarians' favorite part of our job is recommending new books to people.

Happy National Library Week!! A great time to ask everyone you know if they have a library card.

Important! Your pet's RFID chip number might have been disconnected this week.
Is your pet chipped? They should be. Do you know who made the chip?
Pet RFID chips are so small that there's really only room on them for a serial number. When your lost pet is brought to a shelter or a vet's office, they can scan the chip, read that number, and then type it into a program that draws from a series of linked databases to find your name and phone number. That's how they find you, and tell you that Silly Lilly von Wigglesbottom has gone wandering, and she's safe and sound, and would you come get her, please?
Texas-based Save This Life, which provided chips to vets and shelters all across the US, has all at once and abruptly gone dark; their database is just gone. Their customers were not given warning and so did not know to change their registration to another company. A lot of animals have basically become anonymous now.
If you don't know what company you've been using, call your vet's office and ask what pet chip number they have on file. If the chip number starts with 991 or 900164, it's probably a Safe This Life chip.
If it turns out yours is one of the affected cases, the chip itself will still be fine! There's no need to add another, or anything like that. You'll just need to transfer the number to another company, and your vet should be able to recommend the one that they like the best.
#animals#pets#this affected my cat please ask your vet to check if your critter is affected#(or if you adopted your adoption paperwork probably has the microchip number)#microchips are like the#1 way of reuniting lost pets with their owners
