Third and final time remaking this menu.  Also, actually having a reference resolution is the most freeing thing in the world.

After playing Celeste, I decided to make my reference resolution 320x180px.  As it turns out, resizing my UI makes for weirdly cool “art”.

Some weird geometric art stuff.  Enjoy?
Done in Krita with symmetry tools.

Yet Another Visual Update.
It’s about as close as it’s going to get to “done”, which is a damn sight better than it looked in the original jam build.

The extra credits jam “voting” period is going until the 22nd, so until then I can’t upload adjustments to the game.
Doesn’t mean I’m not working on updates.  What you see above is a refining of the look for each “city”.  I will be working on making that circle a square though, in order to stay in theme. :>
Update: Replaced pic with a newer version.  Finally managing to tame TextMeshPro a bit.  Starting to look real sexy.

Surprise!  The fourth Extra Credits game jam is wrapping up today, and I went ahead and tossed my hat into the ring.  Of course, it's not a game jam for me if I'm not pushing my skills and I did decide to make a prototype that is out of my comfort zone...by a fair bit.  I'm not quite happy with it, but I'm happy that it has at least one playable gameplay element and that it works!  I'll be looking at making an update later on to address the issues and missing "features".

This will make sense eventually, I’m sure.
Just not right now.
Gif is from Squarelandia, my Extra Credits Game Jam project.

A screenshot of this weekend’s jam game.
Been a while since I made stuff purely for fun and not because I felt I had to, and the Extra Credits Game Jam came up.  This is one of the two jams I’ve wanted to do for two years now that I’ve been otherwise unable to do, so I’m gonna get ‘er done this time around.
Premise: You are the governor of Squarelandia.  Your people establish cities on their on and it is your job to connect them to each other to cover each others deficits and lead your state/nation/thing to prosperity.
The catch: Cities only directly affect each other.  Try not to trickle down your deficits!
The jam ends in two days.  There’s a lot left to do, but I only let myself do ideas on the first day so I’d have time to get a finished prototype done.
More screenshots to come, maybe?  Possibly even a gif too.  Stay tuned!

Status Report - May 2019
The Status Report: Checking in for a monthly look at all things Dragonfox, just for you.
SHMUP Prototyping
I’ve always been fond of Shoot-Em-Ups, even if I’m not the best player of them.  This month found me working on a new SHMUP prototype with 15 commits and a few built proto-prototypes in the folder archives.  The project hasn’t received a proper “codename” or title yet, so I am just calling it the Popcorn Space SHMUP for now.
With June on the horizon, the goal is to nail down a list of requirements for the Minimum Viable Prototype and start working on putting out publicly playable prototypes.  Does that mean I’m finally putting out my first playable piece of game in the past year and a half in June?  Maybe.  Real life crap comes first, but I’m going to try my best to push through and get something out.
Life Is A Box Of Chocolates
Sometimes you get the chocolates you want, and sometimes you get told you need to work at moving out.  Fun, isn’t it?  On the negative side, that is a lot of financial stress that I am going to have to overcome.
On the positive side, it’s kicked me in the butt hard enough to make some real progress on my projects.
Looking Forward
Even with the Life Stuff going on, my stress (and depression) levels are slowly lowering as there is at least some order to things now.  Less stress means better mental health and more progress on Stuff(tm).
I’m looking at picking back up on a couple of projects over the next few months:
Music: I liked doing original music, but I pushed myself hard enough that I burnt myself out on it.  You know what I liked doing more?  Video game remixes and rearranges.  So that’s on the books for Later(tm).
Art: It’s been a while since I did art to relax.  It’s been even longer since I did my semi-abstract inking work and Coffee Stain Art.  I’m going to work on constraining myself to small pieces for a while so I get back in the groove without overloading myself.
Patreon & Tumblr: I’m going to be working on producing more screenshots, gifs, and content in general for the Tumblr and posting the juicy highlights to Patreon one way or another.
Speaking Of Patreon...
A dollar a month keeps the doctor away, and gives you access to my private Discord server!  See what’s going on when I’m quiet elsewhere, and check out the gifs and screenshots of development work before I post them online.  Become a patron here: https://www.patreon.com/dragonfoxstudios

Screenshot from testing my very early prototype of a SHMUP I’m working on.  I’ve wanted to work on one of these for a long time.  Right now I have the essentials working, with a “game mode” that plays from start to finish and resets the level “if” you survive.  It’s more of a “when”, really, because player death isn’t implemented yet.
Ignore that debug text.  Truly unimportant.  Doesn’t show what I have planned at all.
Next task is getting a basic level editor/designer done in Unity.  Nothing that can be used outside of the Unity Editor for now, though.

Plugin Testing - FL “FLEX” Beta
Every time FL Studio gets a new plugin, I like to give it a test drive for the fun of it. Here's two samples I created with nothing but Image-Line's new plugin "FLEX".
"Pensive Rhodes"
"The Night Is Ending"
Please enjoy! If you can't see the players above, you can access these samples/tracks directly from the links below. Files are in MP3 format.
