Did anyone else have a great time with the D&D movie or was it just me and Chris Pine playing a character of discriminate class

Im in too deep looking up sociology essays on the ramifications of an entirely sex positive society. What would a world look like that utterly lacked any idea of Puritanism and modesty - where there was no gender that was inherently sexualized and nudity and sex weren’t considered taboo. Save my JSTOR. JSTOR save me.
Do you think it’s possible to make a society that venerates natural/physical beauty and art without creating a physical beauty standard?? Trying to make a DnD city that worships a goddess of beauty but I would love to not make it inherently racist lmao

i think that killing a dragon should have catastrophic nuclear-fallout level environmental consequences tbh. their blood should scorch and wither the earth with fire and poison, the toxic fumes released as they decay should choke the land and all nearby living creatures, and the entire landscape where they fell should be transformed into a blighted wasteland where bleached leviathan bones loom upwards out of the ground as a warning that can be seen from miles away, the boundary markers of an exclusion zone.

Holga obviously liked being married and wants to wife up another halfling (I’m right here and 5’3” queen) but I 100% believe were that to happen she would not move out of Edgin’s home. Instead her weird little husband would just move in and edgin would start making the mildest of protests until he realizes that her man cooks and makes a mean roast

A man and a woman platonically raising a child together and not falling in love has to be the biggest plotwist in the Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie AND my favorite part
#it’s the fantasy of a world where women aren’t inherently lesser#edgin does not come with any of the socialized understanding of women#etc etc men don’t value you unless they find you physically attractive#he does not find her attractive but he values her companionship her insight her humor and her above all else#also???????#holga being strong and muscular and unshaved and a little brusk#while also being nurturing and seen as attractive to the opposite sex and humorous and goofy#I’ve never seen a female character like this I’m floored#she’s crafted with such care#and respect I

This might be an unpopular opinion regarding the dnd movie and also might come off meaner than I intend, but if you truly believe the movie should've ended by zooming out and showing the actors playing dnd, please never write anything ever. No, the movie that had 0 previous 4th wall breaks did not need to end on what is essentially a fancy "it was all a dream" ending and I'm beyond glad it didn't
#THANK YOU#I actually don’t know why it’s making me mad lol#but people saying it was a missed opportunity like no…#the writers did think of it because it’s like… an obvious idea#and they didn’t do it because it’s also a bad boring hollow and unemotional one#i just like hate this kind of snark#the pretentious faux intellectual and unnecessary wink to the audience#oh ho ho aren’t we clever isn’t that funny#it’s soooooo disney coded#and those little jokes and scenes aren’t funny they have no lasting value they’re not evocative#they’re quips that die on impact the moment you rewatch anything#you know what lasts?????#d&d movies that take place wholly in universe because we’re not going to cheapen the stakes of this world for a derivative 10 second gaf#give me campy sincereity or give me death!!!!#gag*

I get where the “Edgin isn’t a bard, he’s a mastermind rogue!!” crowd is coming from. I really do.
But the thing about that: Mastermind rogues are sneaky. They’re intelligent. They’re dangerous. They theoretically make good plans.
Edgin isn’t good at any of that! He’s good at showmanship and persuasion (if his speech to Simon isn’t casting bardic inspiration, I don’t know what is.)
The most compelling explanation I’ve seen for him NOT being a bard is if he’s a paladin (with an entertainer background) who broke his oath.
That would explain the charisma, the lack of roguelike skills despite literally being a thief, AND the lack of magic (paladins who break their oath generally lose most of their abilities, since they were, y’know, tied to the oath.) And it adds a cool layer to his relationship with Xenk.

Genuinely don’t understand why so many people are lamenting the fact that the d&d movie didn’t have a post-credit scene with an actual campaign set up. it would have been insincere and derivative. Im so glad they didn’t lower the stakes of the world we were immersed in for 2+ hours by revealing that it was all a game - the point of a movie like this is to make you believe this fantasy world exists! That these character care about each other and the story matters! Cmon, do you like it when movies reveal that what happened was ~all a dream~ as well??? The way they played into the game mechanics was clever and subtle and there is a REASON that the writers didn’t go with the very obvious decision to reveal the players. Because it would have been boring.
