the prince pursed his lips for a moment as he debated on what answer to give. he hadn't been planning to take samson out on a full ride again, they'd already been out earlier that morning, but there was something in the way she asked that made him want to say yes. as always. and phillip knew that the stallion wouldn't be opposed to another adventure through the forest.

he watched the two interact for a moment as he stroked the animal's back affectionately. how could he possibly say no? "is any trouble going to come from it?" he asked teasingly as he closed the gap between her and cupped her face gently with his right hand. the prince didn't believe the queen disliked him, nor did he want to do anything to make it happen. "we can go," phillip told her with a smile not truly caring what her response would have been. he'd have risked all the trouble and more just to please her.

"do you want me to saddle a horse for you?" he asked as he grabbed the lightweight leather one that belonged to his own steed and placed it on his back atop the plush blanket. "or would prefer to ride together?"

the beauty just walked into the stables when he made the request of her — she looked 'round, finding the bridle he was asking for on the table just beside her. aurora picked it up, walking over to him and samson, handing the leather straps with golden buckles to him. " are you going for a ride? " the princess asked, turning her attention to the white stallion before her, a gentle hand coming up to touch his muzzle. " can i come with? " aurora had plans that afternoon, technically. she was supposed to assist her mother in planning the upcoming spring ball — but . . . she seldom cared to do so.

there was almost nothing that caused concern more than waking up to find himself alone. to see the spot in bed that was rightfully hers empty. though he could never blame her for the restlessness that plagued her throughout the night. he was no stranger to nightmares, but he'd never experienced them the same way as his beloved wife. and until he was cursed in the same manner, he never expected to truly understand what she felt. he knew the best thing he could do was simply be there. to support her and try and quell her fears.

it was never difficult to find where she'd gone off, there was only a handful of places when it was this late. and given the weather outside the castle, the king had no trouble finding his queen. the ornate stained glass windows in the library had some of the most spectacular views of the grounds. and something about the way the water reflected off the colors always seemed to leave him in awe.

"of course, my love." he smiled softly as he sat down behind her and wrapped his strapping arms around her so he could hold her close. he inhaled deeply, admiring the delicate scent of roses and lavender he'd come to love so dearly. "perhaps in the morning, we can go for a ride," he smiled into her hair recalling the last time they'd taken the horses out after such a heavy rain. it had been messy and muddy, but more fun than he could possibly recount.

she wasn't surprised to hear his footsteps enter the library, where the sleepless princess sat in a velvet window seat, watching the raindrops run down the windowpane. aurora turned her head to look at her love, offering him a soft — albeit saddened — smile. " you can go back to bed, my love, i'm only listening to the rain. " aurora said softly, which it was true — that was what she was currently doing; but she only sat there because another nightmare had disturbed her sleep, and this time it had left a burn on the back of her left leg. she would tend to that in the morning.

but he stepped closer still, leaning forward to place a soft and tender kiss upon her forehead — and the princess sighed, giving in to the fact that he wasn't going to leave her here.

" can we stay until the storm passes? " she asked softly. " i like the way it sounds, it's calming. " it was the opposite of the fire and brimstone that haunted her.

he only nodded in agreement at her comment, phillip had seen with his own eyes the extent of what worse indeed was. but that was neither here nor there and he didn't dare to spoil the mood with such unpleasantness.

the prince mulled over her question for a moment finding it unusually difficult to pinpoint what exactly made his realm magnificent. or perhaps he only saw it that way because it was his home. "the mountains are quite incredible. dangerous if one is unprepared, but the view from the top is worth the risk," or at least it had been to him. it was possible that not everyone would agree with such a sentiment.

"when you say never, you really mean never? never seen the kingdoms surrounding yours?" phillip couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt—or perhaps pity? he was unfamiliar with both.

the chill in the air had the princess hugging close her fur-lined cloak, draping all the way down to her ankles. violet gaze aimed outwards towards where he looked, towards the calm and the quiet. " i'm sure there are worse, " the blonde agreed with a smile, " but, i'd like to see somewhere . . . . different. " she mused aloud, " i've never seen anything but this calmness, this . . . stillness. " aurora said, her voice trailing off with a sense of . . . longing.

" tell me about aedon, " the princess asked, turning to look at him. " you said it's beautiful, what makes it so? " aurora loved listening to people talk about the places they had been, seen or were from. especially since she never got to leave her own kingdom.
