Thousand Autumns - guess I found a BL I can root for 🤭
Enjoying the Thousand Autumns donghua.
Tumblr media
I tried reading Moxiang Tongxiu's books but just couldn't get into them. Heaven's Official Blessings and even the book that inspired the famous Untamed drama, just made me nod off. I am going to say something sacrilegious but the main characters were sooooooo annoying and I found the stories chaotic.
So, I decided to start the Thousand Autumns donghua because I like the enemies to lovers trope. I had zero expectations but am curious to see how the author pulled it off.
Ended up suuuper impressed with the quality of the donghua. The art, voice acting, storytelling. Top notch!
But anyway it looks like I just like Meng Xi Shi's writing style better because Thousand Autumns feels like a very classic wuxia tale and the characters are nuanced and developed.
I found Yan Wushi fascinating.
Yan Wushi, to quote someone from Goodreads, 100% "deserves a beating, but is still bae."
Shen Qiao, however, is hugely annoying for his boy scout ways, but I have to admit he makes such a compelling contrast to our "evil" lord.
I guess I like bad boys 🤭

Saying goodbye to the Legend of Shen Li is hard T_T
Tumblr media
The blessings of being swept away by a drama after nearly quitting it, and now that you've finished it, realise that there isn't any other xianxia with such a mature main couple with a level-headed approach to love and heavenly responsibilities. Am looking at future xianxia dramas with much trepidation. I doubt they'd have a xianxia like this again for a long, long time.
I wrote a long ass review here: https://dramatea88.wordpress.com/2024/04/29/the-legend-of-shen-li-review/

The Legend of Shen Li (review)
I nearly dropped this drama, was told that it is really worth it sticking it out, and for the first time, I'm really glad I listened. It's one of the best xianxias I've watched in a long while.
I am generally wary of hyped dramas, and boy was this drama hyped. And since I don’t exactly have wonderful luck with xianxia as a genre, I wondered if I could get on The Legend of Shen Li train.
Fortunately, I had a long holiday in April, and I was in the mood to watch something adventurous. So I gave Show a try and ended up binging six episodes in a day. This is a good sign.

Death's Game review
I watched Death's Game after Lee Sun-Kyun's death, and it made me really reflect about the consequences of a suicide on the survivors. A stellar story in eight episodes.
#KDrama #KDramas #DeathsGame #TV
Death’s Game is only eight episodes long (though it was unnecessarily broken up into two parts). Due to how short the drama is, which is half the size of a regular KDrama, Death’s Game was forced to be very economical and efficient in its storytelling, and it did so by structuring the tale fascinatingly.
The story
Choi Yi Jae failed at a grand opportunity to start his life on the right foot and…

Perfect Marriage Revenge review
A woman is given the chance to relive her life and get back at the people who ruined her life. This is a super fun makjang #KDrama that didn't take itself too seriously. #KDramas #TV #Entertainment
This KDrama uses a theme that most Chinese drama viewers will be familiar with: a wronged heroine, transmigration, reincarnation and a second chance at making things right. How could I resist watching this? The story Han Yi Joo is really a doormat – there’s just no better way to describe her. She’s a talented artist and the adopted daughter of a very rich family. You’d think her life would be…

I watched all episodes of In Blossom - non-spoilery thoughts about the show and the ending
I love it. Love, love, love it. Am very satisfied and happy with the ending.
Sure, it's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but Pan Yue (or rather, Liu Xueyi kahkahkah) gave me so much joy. Darling, please grace me with your abs and dark, embroidered hanfus once again. The world needs this community service.

About the supposed - "cliffhanger" ending. I'm not sure why people say it's a cliffhanger. It's more like a teaser, a possibility etc. It will not ruin the entire series for you nor will it render it "unfinished" in any way. The entire arc is neatly wrapped up, so don't worry, proceed it peace.
With CDramas being the way they are, I really expected it to just go sideways sharply towards the end, but it didn't! The storytelling, while not perfect and sometimes terribly convenient, held up till the very end. No fillers, no unnecessary side quests. No jealous rivals that bjorked everything up.
I would say this has bumped off Wonderland of Love as my favourite lite, cracktastic drama.

Me, after viewing this clip: OMG Pan Yue don't you die on me
People in the comments: OMG he is so pretty when he faints.
Admittedly, he is gorgeous even when he faints.

That Sword & The Brocade kiss
Every time I watch episode 35. 🫠
And then the next scene features the image of bees pollinating flowers in the morning. Like, how on the nose, people.

Next week is gonna be a tough week for Pan Yue. And me.
Goes to Twitter. Gets slammed with massive In Blossom spoilers.
Worries for Pan Yue.
Wonder if this will have a good ending.
Par the course in CDramaland.
May we survive it somehow.

One thing I love about this show is how confident and forward the women are. They are not the typical, shy wilting flower types who are reluctant to express their desire for their men. I love the Uno reverse card they did in this scene, where Pan Yue is trying to be the smooth and seductive Cassanova, only to have Caiwei turn the tables on him, pin him to the shelves and and declaring what she thinks about his physical attributes instead 🤭

In Blossom (currently watching)
It’s been a long time since I live-blogged a drama. This is because dramas in the last few months have not caught my attention in such a way that makes me want to do so.
But this drama? I couldn't ignore it. Oh boy I mean just look at him.
