Idk if it’s true that Neve Campbell has been cast as Lorna Dane and I’m not sure how to feel about it if it is.

On one hand: fuck yes Lorna Dane!!! My favorite mutant of all time, light of my life Lorna Dane!!!

On the other hand: the MCU has already fucked up my other two fave ladies (Sharon and Bobbi) and I’m betting the same will happen to Lorna. Especially after the shitty live action Lorna we got with the Gifted show, cause the writers admitted they just added her to be the one guys girlfriend and that was it, then they twisted her into a pseudo Magneto cause they didn’t know what else to do with her.

I’m also not keen on Neve playing a Jewish character when she’s A. Not Jewish (she’s said she has Jewish ancestry but doesn’t practice because she’s Catholic); Marvel will do anything but cast Jewish and Romani actors to play Jewish and Romani characters. B. She only got back into Scream after Melissa Barrera was fired for being pro-Palestine and calling for a ceasefire. Neve was happy to walk away from Scream when she wasn’t being paid enough money to do it but also walked that back when her costar was fired for not supporting a genocide. She also hasn’t said anything (that I’m aware of) regarding Palestine but not siding with Melissa Barrera or speaking out against her atrocious firing says a lot to me.

So, yeah, idk how to feel about it but I’m leaning towards annoyed af.

I love reading OC fics but my biggest turn off is the names I see for OCs sometimes. The fic could be written by Mary Shelley reborn and be the greatest work of fiction but it won’t matter to me if the OC name is ridiculous for the setting. What do you mean your OC is a Viking named Agrippa? What do you mean your 1800s French aristocrat is Makayla? I know it’s fic and we’re all escaping reality but I can only suspend my disbelief so much. Research names appropriate for the time period you’re writing for ffs

If it’s true Alicole is happening during B&C:

I think of it more as a parallel to the Driftmark episode in s1, wherein consenting adults are getting off while the kids are getting hurt cause no adults are keeping an eye on them like they should be. Oddly, the entire Driftmark episode boiled down to the kids and misinformation about the dragon lore, while Daemon and Rhaenyra (at least from what I recall seeing) had no blow back or criticism from the fandom for hooking up mere hours after his wife’s funeral, on her family’s ancestral land. I recall seeing a lot of debates about how Aemond had terrible timing and should’ve had the decency to wait to claim Vhaegar, but nothing about the indecency of Daemon and Rhaenyra’s hookup not to mention no criticism about them getting married the next day. From the few comments I’ve seen already about Alicole possibly happening during B&C, I can already tell they’ll both get the blame for not watching the kids instead of placing blame at the feet of whoever orchestrates B&C, in contrast to the Driftmark debacle.

On one hand, personally, I don’t mind them hooking up. Alicent deserves a hottie after being married to Viserys’ crusty decaying corpse for decades. But, on the other hand, the choice to make it during this huge devastating moment, that she’s actually documented to witness, is a weird deviation from F&B. I hate that the writers keep adding things that never happened into the show. There are some things where they have to get creative (one rumor says this, but another said this so they need to pick which narrative to go with, that’s fine), but intentionally changing things and inserting things that never actually happened in F&B is different. Alicole hooking up and Alicent not being there for B&C is just another one of those things.

It’s still wild to me that Astarion, the origin character with the most overwhelming amount of in-game content, could be removed from BG3 entirely and nothing changes because he’s not connected to any major plot points. He’s not personally connected to Orpheus or the artifact, the Crown, the shadow curse or Nightsong, not to any of the Dead Three and their plots in Baldur’s Gate, nor any overarching plot line that starts in Act 1 and ends in Act 3, nothing. He’s basically just an NPC that got upgraded, much like Halsin. The difference between them is that Astarion serves zero purpose to any story beats or plots connected to the overall story. He’s just there and has a personal side quest in Act 3, that’s it. That’s his only relevance, and you can literally do it without him or ignore it like any side quest if you want. He lifts right out and yet he has more content than all the other origin characters who are integral to the overall story. It’s baffling.

Alix Rose in Enemy

As the female pirate with the highest bounty in the East Blue, Alix Rose, captain of the Red Thorn, has a weight to her name. Known for both her bubbly nature and her ability to cry poisonous tears, Alix is a force to be reckoned with, though admittedly overshadowed by much bigger names in the pirating world. One of those names? Kristo Brand. One of the Seven Warlords, and someone Alix has a fierce grudge against. Everyone else is seeking a map to the Grand Line, but if Alix wants it, there's only one reason: leverage against Brand. She will use whatever weapons are in her arsenal to destroy him, even if pirates everywhere are scratching their heads as to why. Another of those names? Dracule Mihawk, greatest swordsman in the world. Typically killing time devastating pirate fleets, but potentially an ally to Alix. She can't be certain of much with him, especially as he seems perpetually bored. Nonetheless, what starts as a vague curiosity and a perceived shared similarity results in something much more. With a ragtag group of young pirates on the run, a map to the Grand Line in the open, notorious pirates crawling out of the woodwork, and feelings she'd rather not admit to, Alix begins to wonder if perhaps Brand might be the least of her concerns.
