After her reunion with Dans, Adrienne...doesn’t quite know what to do. What she had thought about their relationship was wrong– Dans didn’t hate her, after all. And Adrienne doesn’t know how to reconcile that.

Her phone had rung right after their kiss, and she’d had to run to the flower shop– a customer had ordered flowers for a wedding at extremely short notice– and now she’s afraid to contact Dans again.

She wants to make this work. But if Dans is ready to part as friends...Adrienne can be at peace with that.

For the first time in months, Adrienne feels truly safe. Truly happy. Truly loved. She kisses Dans softly, cupping her cheek like she’s a precious thing.

I don’t want to feel anything.” She sighs. “There’s this thing that witches can do. A yearlong sleep. If I wake, I won’t be human anymore. And if I die...I got to see you again before I did.”

“I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry.” She’s tearing up, but she impatiently brushes her own tears away. “I just...I wanted to say it in person. You don’t have to forgive me...you don’t have to say anything to me, if you don’t want to.” Adrienne looks down, afraid. “I’m sorry for leaving. I just felt so...inadequate. Like I wasn’t good enough. You’re so– much. You’re so much more than I could ever want, than I could ever deserve. So I got scared. I got scared, and I abandoned you. I’m so, so sorry.”

She’s waiting on a park bench.

Adrienne isn’t expecting her to come. She isn’t expecting much of anything. If Dans got the note and the flowers, it would be enough for Adrienne. Seeing her again...it’s more than she could hope for before leaving for good. Leaving for nowhere.

Her powers have been gone for a while. There’s only one way to get them back that she knows of, and she might not come back from it.

Sweetpea. Gratitude.

Rue. Regret, sorrow, repentance.

Eglantine rose. A wound to heal.

Yellow roses. An apology.

Celandine. A hope for joys to come.

Rainflower. I must atone for my sins. I will never forget you.

She gathers them up and arranges them, minding the placement of color, then wraps them in a white ribbon with blue tissue paper.

She’s nearly forgotten the way to Dans’ home, and she curses herself for it. She curses herself for everything. For not being there. For being so, so selfish. For telling herself she’d return when she was in a better headspace, and then healing, and then failing to return to her.

Danielle had been...everything. More than she deserved. A kind and caring friend. A constant warm light. Selfless and funny and giving, so giving– of her talents, her time, her love. 

And it had all gone to waste on someone who didn’t deserve it. Someone who never reciprocated fully. Someone who did, once, but let those efforts and feelings fade without fighting for them.

She can’t hope for forgiveness. She doesn’t deserve it, she knows that. And the last thing she wants is for Dans to feel more pain because of this apology. She just needs to say sorry, to acknowledge the pain she’s caused. 

Danielle deserves an apology. Danielle deserves the world and more.

She leaves the bouquet on her doorstep, and she leaves. It doesn’t matter where she goes.

All I can do apologize. All I hope for you is happiness.

Adrienne jolts awake. Something is wrong, she can tell...but she doesn’t know what yet.

Caught

It’s night time when she walks back to the same flower shop, it was a long day, though it felt odd, somehow Danielle couldn’t stop thinking that there’s something bothering her. Like she was being watched… that sensation occurred when she got back from the airport. Since then she had tried to be cautious with going out but then after her birthday party with her friends, she just assumed that maybe she was just exaggerating.

As she visualizes the place where her girlfriend was staying, she heard footsteps which made her stop just a few meters from Adrienne. “Miss Lane. We need you to come with us… oh excuse me, you are Williams now” that voice provoked terror in the woman’s heart, it took her best to not look up at her girlfriend’s apartment, she knew that it was a dangerous situation… they have finally found her.

“I believe you are clever enough to surrender now” it was the soldier that came to England in cover as a policeman. Fortunately Danielle was standing in the middle of the street and some buildings were surrounding her so that way they didn’t know where she was going and where Adrienne’s living at.

She stayed still while trying to look for an exit but- “I see what you’re doing, you’re analyzing. Good thing I brought help” where were them? She just couldn’t see with the fog but by using her ability she felt the energy of the people, sadly, there was no way to escape. For a moment she considered the last resource but then her beloved appears on her mind… she’ll hurt her.

“I’ll give you ten… 1” her options were achingly reduced “2…” she had underestimated this man “3…” but she knew this would happen, although she didn’t expect it this sooner, Dans looks down almost defeated “6…” with this she recurred to the last thing she could do.

Edmund was at his nightclub flirting with a group of people, just when he starts his sentence, a horrible headache distracts him, at other side of the city, Joan was attending a reunion with important people, the same happens to her and both of them clearly listened to their friend’s voice “Take care of Adrienne” once it stops, Joan dismisses the discussion and calls for help. Edmund gets out of the club and looks for his car.

“8…” George felt it too, but the message was different “It’s time” “9!” She started to turn around while rising her hands and leaves one last message “Fire!”

“I promise to come back, I lov-“ but the tranquilizer hits her in seconds and she doesn’t finish her message to Adrienne.

“We are leaving now, take her to that unit! We got her” and they disappeared with Danielle.
