10 Pieces of Apparel and Accessories We Wish We'd Never Seen This Year
10 Pieces of Apparel and Accessories We Wish We'd Never Seen This Year From coats that resemble unicorns to lace shorts BY JILL SIERACKI DECEMBER 27, 2017 Photograph courtesy of Catwalking / Getty Every man has his favorite closet staples—jeans cut just right, that blazer that will never go out of style, classic button downs, brown leather boots that only get better with wear. But every year, fashion (and the internet) dictates that you try a few new things. Some are winners—checked trousers, colored socks, head-to-toe neutrals—and some are not. Props to you if you went outside your sartorial comfort zone, but if you tried—and worse, you are still wearing—any of these things we came across in 2017, back… away… slowly.

The Top 10 Fitness Trends You'll See Everywhere This Year
The Top 10 Fitness Trends You'll See Everywhere This Year From HIIT to yoga, here's what the fitness pros are eyeing in 2018 BY ALISA HRUSTIC JANUARY 4, 2018 Getty Images Fitness trends come and go every year, but we’re going back to the basics in 2018, according to a new annual survey from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) published in its Health & Fitness Journal. For the survey, the authors identified 40 possible fitness trends for 2018 and asked more than 4,000 fitness pros from organizations like the American Council on Exercise and the National Council on Strength and Fitness to rank them on a 10-point scale, with 10 meaning it was most likely to be a trend this year. The ACSM also distinguished the difference between a trend and fad in the survey. A trend was defined as having more lasting power than a fad, which is typically met with more enthusiasm but lasts for a shorter amount of time. With that, here’s what you should know about the 10 fitness trends you’ll see everywhere this year.

The Over-40 Set Brought Grown-Man Grooming to the Golden Globes
From Zac Efron's retro 'stache to Kit Harington's wildman beard, there were plenty of young guys at the 2018 Golden Globes with admirable scruff. None, however, were a match for the over-40 set, who really brought their facial hair A-game to the event—a move that's becoming something of a tradition, both at the Globes and other awards shows as well. Of course the message of the night, and on the red carpet, had little to do with grooming. Nominees and attendees at the Golden Globes wore black to support the Time's Up initiative, an action plan launched by women in Hollywood to help put a stop to sexism and sexual misconduct in the industry. How do we square that with men's grooming? We don't, really. Beards are scruffier than ever, and we'll note when that's the case. And we'll note that comes out of the mouths behind those beards is well worth scrutinizing, too. For now, here are some middle-aged actors with tremendous facial hair.

You've been pouring beer all wrong - and that's leaving you bloated
You’ve been pouring beer all wrong – and that’s leaving you bloated Beer can be a real b*tch when it comes to making us feel bloated. Although there’s nothing quite like an ice cold pint to quench the thirst, it can cause all manner of problems for those of us who already struggle with digestive issues. You might put this down to the glutenous profile of beer – it is, after all, made from hops. But according to Max Bakker, the only Master Cicerone in New York (a certification that recognises exceptional understanding of beer brewing and pairing), much of the bloating caused by beer comes from the way it’s poured. We all think that tilting the glass and pouring slowly creates the perfect, headless pint but that actually means that the CO2 in beer has nowhere to escape to. And that means that all that gas is going straight into your stomach – leaving you feeling like an inflated dead cow (their stomachs explode after they die, FYI).

An Open Letter to the Newbies at the Gym This January
Dear January Gym Newcomers, It's the dawn of a new year, and you've decided to put "getting fit" near the top of your New Year's Resolutions. Well, we're very pumped for you, because in case you didn't know, Men's Health is all about health and fitness. But we're here today to talk about the other stuff—specifically, a little guide to navigating your head-first plunge into your new fitness journey. First of all, let's talk about why you're here. Perhaps you've noticed that your pants haven't been fitting right the past few months. Maybe you ate (drank?) an entire keg of ranch in one sitting. It's also possible that the hardest workout you had all year was the day took your air conditioner out of your window. Maybe you or a family member had a health scare, and you're taking a proactive approach to your wellness. Whatever it is, make sure you have a reason and you write it down, because you're going to need it, man.

Six Secrets Of People Who Keep Their New Year’s Resolutions
BY STEPHANIE VOZZA6 MINUTE READ How many New Year’s resolutions have you kept … for more than a week? If you haven’t made it to a month milestone–let alone a year–maybe you’re skipping steps that help you create resolutions that last. We talked to six people who have kept resolutions for two, three, and even 10 years. Here are their secrets for making resolutions with sticking power. THEIR RESOLUTIONS REVOLVE AROUND SMALL CHANGES Fred Schebesta, cofounder of the personal finance comparison website finder.com, has kept the same resolution for the past 10 years: make one improvement every day, such as listening to audio books or removing apps from his smartphone that don’t improve his efficiency. “Being small, it has been easy to stick to but pivotal in my personal development and the growth of my business,” he says. “I figured that if you improve by 1% everyday, you will improve by 365% over a year. The changes you can make in a year through one small improvement are huge.”

Why we celebrate New Year's Day on Jan. 1
Why we celebrate New Year's Day on Jan. 1 Much of the world is preparing to ring in a new year with a fresh start, resolutions and celebrations with family and friends. Have you ever wondered why we celebrate New Year’s Day on Jan. 1? It was celebrated for the first time on this date in 45 B.C. on the Julian calendar. The Julian calendar “In those days, the then-observed Roman calendar had only 10 months, so March 1 was New Year’s Day,” said Michael Hart, a political, cultural and history radio commentator and author. “[Ancient] Mesopotamia instituted the concept of this celebration about 2,000 years before the birth of Christ,” Hart added. In March, Babylonians would follow the first new moon following the vernal equinox, celebrating the new year with a festival called Akitu, according to historians.

Dating rules revealed in Singles in America survey
There's no shame in sleeping with someone before a first date but having an Android or cracked phone screen is definitely not okay, according to America's singles. The rules of dating are always shifting and the annual Singles in America survey set out to find what people really thought about when they were searching for love. Gone are the days where singles feel pressured to wait, with almost half of millennials and 34 per cent of all people admitting they are likely to have sex before a first date. But in order to get to that stage, cell phone etiquette can be a deal breaker. Dates will negatively judge potential partners for having an Android and 86 per cent of women think seeing a cracked phone screen is a turn off.
