I had a dream that the new popular Gen Z turn of phrase was to say "that's so borscht" whenever someone did something iconic or memorable (borscht was always pronounced with a strong Eastern European accent), and I guess this phrase originated among Canadians with Slavic ancestry but it became really popular all across North America and then some popular American tiktok influencer made a video about how calling things "borscht" was actually really offensive to Eastern Europeans and it got stitched by a Polish-Canadian influencer who accused her of American imperialism for "policing the language of Canadians" and then the discourse made its way to Tumblr and it was really stupid and a lot of people were getting doxxed for saying "that's so borscht" in discord messages. Anyways I woke up with a migraine

So with a tiny bit of research I have found that there are exactly four (4) explicit rated fics in Irish on AO3. one (1) of those four (4) is FNAF William x Henry smut. And it is very well written. Gaeilge abú?

The thing about when people are like "Non-Americans have no idea how different the states are, each state is like entering a new country" is like... isn't every country is like this? 😭 Like idk I feel like every single country you could like, go to one end and ask about the people on the other end and get a response ranging from "Oh yeah those guys do things a Little Different" to "[regional bigotry of a fervor you didn't expect]"

"Cgl dni" mallachtaí an diabhail ort má bhíonn tú ceart go leor
Irish speaker on tumblr problem #1: using "cgl" as shorthand for "ceart go leor", not realizing it's also the acronym for a popular and controversial kink

It‘s scary to see how very important european petitions get no visibility whatsoever. We had a basic income petition last year which failed because not enough people knew about it. Now we have a „tax the rich“ one that only lasts until october this year and only has around 250k out of 1 mio. signings.
Most EU people go through their every day life w/o knowing about them. There are no ads, no marketing…nothing. I know that costs money though one might think important petitions that lead to a better and progressive life would be supported by the government or ministries in some way, but nooooo
And why should they? It’s petitions that would help out the poor and middle class, but endanger capitalism and their exploitation, sooo: government and business leads for example.
So here the link for those who are interested:

I am against nationalism in all its forms, but I will ALWAYS stand for the Canadian national anthem: "Speaking Moistly Autotune Remix" by Anonymotif.
RIP Justin Trudeau. You were a terrible prime minister and a colonizing bitch, but it was funny when you said "speaking moistly".

The thing that really gets me is that a very large proportion (the majority?) of currently living, endangered indigenous American languages, at least in the US and Canada America, became endangered as a result of twentieth century policy and twentieth century developments. Residential schools, forced adoptions, and economic sabotage within the last century. And of course this is the case: languages that were already endangered 100 years ago are just dead now. But the point is that these historical wrongs are not wrongs of some distant past. The people fighting for the survival of their language here are not merely daydreaming about an imagined prelapsarian past. The are fighting for something that (depending on age) they or their parents personally experienced being robbed of. Tanadrin pointed out that the more time goes on, the harder historical wrongs are to right. This is the sort of historical wrong which is often in memory close enough that meaningful mitigation is possible.

notes on the Gaeltacht vampire
all media relating to the Gaeltacht vampire, excluding shitposting, must be in Irish. he'd be very upset to have his story told in English. thus I will be writing it in Irish
I am writing it. this was a post about my OC and my story idea
that means he's not up for grabs as a character. get your own gaeltacht vampires. ideally not in Donegal though or we might have territory problems
a hypothetical tv series would obviously be on tg4. see point 1.
he is not ancient. he was born in 1958 and turned in 1985
his problems are not fairies or folkloric beings of any kind. his problems are rural depopulation and colonialism and the domination of the english language
the guy has enough to worry about helping his village survive economic downturn okay he doesn't need supernatural problems
how many times do I have to say that he is just a guy. running a summer school. so his village will survive
he also runs excellent evening classes year round for anyone local wanting snas a chur ar a gcuid ghaeilge
if you want to know more about the gaeltacht vampire, you gotta be ag foghlaim do ghaeilge otherwise you can't read his story when I've written it

How many languages do you know at least little bit of?
Remake of an older poll (link here)
Like last time I am using a strict definition of language and a loose definition of being able to speak/knowing the language.
Details:
Sign languages count, conlangs count, super similar languages only counts one & dialects of the same language usually won't count (unless you can make multiple sentences in both that someone who only spoke the other couldn't understand), for Norwegian being able to write both bokmål & nynorsk only counts as one
You need to know more than 30 words and be able to construct at least one sentence for it to count. it has to be at least one of the following: writing/signing/speaking/whistling, it doesn't have to be multiple.
(and for people with "sampling bias" concerns, this is not supposed to represent society as a whole)
Poll:
It's super cool if you put the languages in tags
