i can't do a new explanation post, but my original one is still good 🫡

AIOLIA IS A BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL TRANSGENDER WOMAN BUTCH LESBIAN AND YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR HER. 🏳️‍⚧️♌

Aiolia's arc is so, so easy to read as a queer allegory. I'm pretty surprised the fandom even categorised her as the "token heterosexual guy" to begin with.

Her whole arc is defined by how she is the scapegoat of the Sanctuary, which is a Patriarcal, Hierarchical, Toxic All-Male environment.

She worked endlessly to prove herself worth to be a part of it, and then embodied the "Perfect Faultless Knight" to be tolerated within the oppressive group she was raised into believing was right, and was right, good for her to try to emulate. That's what she's "born for".

Said role was restrictive, trying to fit into an ideal of Masculinity which, ultimately, Couldn't be her. Because she's human, because she's Someone, and not just a weapon, even if she doesn't believe in it.

She erased her Self, her doubts, locked them away in a closet, repressed, to try and "erase" what was percieved as her sins, bound by her filial flesh. She can't be removed from her "traitor" brother, but also she (horrifyingly for her) grows up to look so eeringly similar to him.

Except it's never enough, she's still ostracised, hurt, antagonised by the ones that are more privilege than her, who can, and are invited to, punch down on her, leverage violence on her.

The Pope bluntly tells Milo that if she were to die retrieving the Sagittarius armor, it'd be "killing two birds with one stone".

When she learns Aioros isn't a sinner, but instead a martyr, she still laments that she can't be him, can't attain his greatness, and is a "disgrace" for her "failures".

Her evolution, her healing comes when she learns the truth and vows allegiance to a goddess Athena.

She is subsequently: ambushed by an angry crowd who basically want to make her regret that decision to side with a woman-goddess rather than the Supreme Pope.

It reminds me of injonctions to heterosexual-cisgender conformity, wanting to get rid of "deviance" through intimidation.

She is then mind-controlled painfully by the Pope into submission and is agonising for a full week before she's freed from the violent, angry, uncharacteristic version of her puppetered by a Oppressive Male Figure trying to gain back his power over her.

She's dispossessed of her self, of her interiority she always struggled with, right as she was starting to blossom. He suffocates (like Nemea's Lion) the bud of growth, which can also go with the view of that as an LGBTphobic gesture.

(That action, with how it takes its toll on her in so many ways, can also be an allegory for other things, which I may talk about in another post if you're interest.)

Most of her healthy relationships and bonds are with women. Athena enlightens her to the world of freedom and possibilities that await her, and Marin is a supportive friend.

Whereas men mostly hurt her, or are apathetic. Milo and Shaka side with the Pope, with the latter using "Tenpo Rin ("Erasure of Doubts")" before striking down on her uncritically. Mu is dismissive of her input in later arcs, from what I've heard.

Seiya is an exception, trying to reach the REAL Aiolia that's buried deep due to the brainwashing. He wants her to claw out, to breathe once more as Her Own.

She needs to be able to stop being stuck as an egg/in denial. Her arc is literally about letting go of Toxic Masculinity and Toxic Environnement making you die on the inside!

It's such an interesting transgender narrative! Her being a girl (who's queer) enriches her storyline, and the context of the series as a whole, raising questions otherwise ignored!

She'd be a beautiful knightly lesbian butch, estrogen would save her, all of that. Hence why you should vote for her, in my humble (and argumentated!) opinion.

I'm the one who found out about it and it's the sort of things where the deeper you dig, the more heartbreaking it is.

Liberia in the 80s (1979-1990, approximatively) was a dictatorship, so precisely Nachi came to the Bomi Hills right before the situation shifted for the worse, even if there was already, as far as I know, tensions and repression that screams "if possible, do not send some random seven year old there please".

Keep in mind I am absolutely no expert on the geopolitical situation in detail, but from what I've gathered, the violence was notably pushed upon ethnic groups and minorities. In canon, Nachi is Japanese, so he must've been in a tricky, dangerous situation.

It's pretty interesting to think about how that shaped his philosophy, being the only one, as far as I know, in the original series (I think Schiller has a similar background) who was impacted by Cosmo-less conflict, man-made horrors all removed from the fantastical realms of Cloths, Athena, etc.

Does he think magic is useless? Is he a nihilist? He could contrast well with Shun, who keeps a pacifist approach in response to his trauma. Maybe he's admirative, and is inspired by his ethic, though. Maybe he wants to protect people.

Did he learn Gola, the language common in the Bomi Hills, at the Orphanage? Did they just expect that kid who, as far as we know if we follow canon, only spoke Japanese, to adapt easily to such changes?

How was his mentor like? Physically(I designed her)? Personality-wise? What kind of teacher is she? Who was his competition, the Cassios to his Seiya for the Wolf Cloth?

Can he even go back to Liberia after the Galaxian Wars, when the regime had a tendency to kick foreigners out? Can he know if his Mentor is doing OK, isn't harmed, jailed, or in danger?

Did he feel bad after leaving to leave her behind?

Maybe he wished to never get the Cloth, and just be living as peacefully as he could with her, because it's not like he has family to return to in Japan, and he feels more culturally Liberian/Gola than Japanese, associates it with the Kido Institution abuse and other bad memories?

Are the Galaxian Wars broadcasted in Liberia? On the radio? Is it forbidden? Is he used for propaganda?

So many questions. But it's an interesting angle. Nachi has untapped potential and I'm glad to go on an historical research for this sake.

Crazy how Nachi is practically a background character and I guess nobody is going to acknowledge how they sent an orphan to Liberia in the 1970s to do God fucking knows.

The DM lore is very interesting. I didn't know the messagers of Hades lore, ableists are creative istg 💀 using it to scare people is so valid considering everything else. Like "you think of me as a menace? I'll become one then lol" type of stuff.
