Marble Hornets Pokemon Teams Round 3!

Teams & my reasoning for picking them below the cut:

The Operator

Phantump- one of many that roam the woods The Operator inhabits. The more victims there are, the more that show up. Most are mournful of lives they can't quite recall and avoid the living. Some have strange symbols carved on them. I chose Phantump for it's dex entries that claim they are created when the spirits possess tree trunks.

Trevenant- another Pokémon that is just one of many within the forests of The Operator. They can often be seen with cryptic drawings attached to their trunks and strange symbols carved into their trunks. Unlike the Phantump that inhabit the forest, Trevenant willingly aid The Operator and help trap the living within. I added Trevenant to The Operator's "team" due to the association with forests.

Xurkitree- a mysterious entity that showed up one day. This ultra beast tends to sap the energy from electronic devices and it's abilities can make the devices glitch. Picked for its similarities in appearance to The Operator and it's electric typing, which could relate to how The Operator causes things like cameras to glitch.

Missing No. -not a real Pokémon, and it strangely can only be seen through cameras. Whether it's real or just a hallucination caused by The Operator is debatable. Chosen due to being a glitch!

I don't consider The Operator to be a trainer, rather these are Pokémon that live in its domain, which aside from Xurkitree, have a multitude of the species living within.

Ash:

Litten- aka "Athena". She is a rather loving and trusting compared to how the dex depicts them. Athena was Ash's first Pokémon, and a gift from her cousin. While untrained/official, Athena provides Ash with emotional support and would not be used in battle. I picked Litten to act as Ash's pet cat, Athena, as the two share a somewhat similar color scheme on top of obviously both being felines!

Absol- has been following Ash since she was young. He was the second to join her team and is very protective of Ash. Absol often warns them and others of danger and will throw itself into danger without hesitation. Picked for Absol's dex entries that state it's mistakenly seen as a doom-bringer but actually trying to warn others away, much like Ash!

Zoroark- a strange addition who mimicked his way onto the team. Zoroark has a strong bond with Ash and helps them see through illusions cast by Slenderman and The Operator. Likewise, he will cast his own illusions to keep them safe. He dislikes the Phantump following them. I picked Zoroark for the team due to its dex entries and abilities with illusions

Ninetales- Ash just found her on the team one day. Where Ninetales came from is unknown but she seems a bit... strange. The Pokémon often tries to push Ash into initiating vengeance for past friends through violence against proxies, Slenderman, The Operator, and others infected with the sickness. I picked this Pokémon for its dex entries that state Ninetales are vengeful and cast curses. Ninetales is shiny to better match Ash's greyscale color pallet.

Phantump- not really a Pokémon on Ash's team so much as one that tends to follow them around. It seems angered and often leaves scribbled drawings, as if trying to torment them. I picked Phantump to represent Ash's deceased younger sister, Faith. Again, the shiny variant was used to match Ash's color pallet.

Marble Hornets Pokemon Teams Round 2!

Teams & my reasoning for picking them below the cut:

Alex:

1. Rockruff- aka "Rocky". A Pokémon Alex has traveled with since his college days. Rocky was the first to alert him to strange things going on but, unfortunately, the poor pup couldn't prevent Alex from going down a dangerous road. He's shiny specifically for the blue color to match with Alex's jacket. I also chose rockruff to reflect Alex's dog, Rocky— even though he's only mentioned a few times in MH.

2. Typhlosion- originally a cyndaquil that he caught and trained around college. It has become his most reliable partner in crime and he has used Typhlosion to burn down various places— like Tim's house. It follows his orders with pleasure. I don't know why, but it gave me Alex Kralie vibes so it was added to the team! Once more, it was also picked for its coloration & the fire typing was an added bonus for Alex to use.

3. Gyarados- Caught already evolved. He doesn't know where the mega stone came from. One day after fleeing the tall faceless entity it was just embedded in his head-crest— not shown due to currently being mega evolved in the art. Whenever Alex uses Gyarados in battle he usually mega evolves it for more power, although he's noticed it has come at the cost of Gyarados rampaging uncontrollably at times. This Pokémon was picked for his team due to its violent tendencies in reflection of Alex's own after he's succumbed to the Operator Sickness.

Jay:

1. Furret- His first Pokémon and one he's had since childhood after making friends with it as a sentret. It's curious and often likes to ride on his shoulders and watch him film. Furret is his best friend and enjoys mimicking him by wearing a cap. I just got Jay vibes with this Pokémon so that's why I added furret to his team.

2. Pidgeot- aka "Marbles". This Pokémon has been on his team since the start of Alex's project when it was still a pidgey— hence why Jay nicknamed Pidgeot after the film project. It's a loyal member of his team and his eyes in the sky for trouble, although when it comes to supernatural entities it doesn't always help. I had to give Jay a bird pokemon because of the whole non-canon "Jaybird" nickname & Pidgeot seemed like a nice choice.

3. Corvisquire- found it after his investigation started. It followed him around and eventually learned he was looking for tapes so it would exchange tapes for food. One day Jay just added it to his team and Corvisquire has enthusiastically continued to help out. This one was added mostly because it's one of the few (partly) blue bird Pokémon that currently exist. It doesn't look like a blue jay at all but it's fun anyway.

4. Rotom- it came with his camera. Rotom is a bit odd but still a member of the team Jay is happy to have. It can help charge his devices if they run low on power. I most added in rotom because of the whole 'rotomdex' and 'rotomphone' gimmicks in the show & games. This one can sometimes act as a 'rotomcamera' by possessing Jay's camera.

I almost gave Alex a Klefki for the "I got your keys" scene. Since I didn't, I'll headcanon that Jay temporarily stole Klefki and after giving it back to Alex, Klefki just up and left him.

Marble Hornets Pokemon Teams Round 1!

Teams & my reasoning for picking them below the cut:

Hoody/Brian:

1. Pawmot- a Pokémon Brian had pre-MH. Mostly picked because of the "that's some nice hair" line lol. However, Pawmot is also great to have around because he can charge devices like the camera while out living in the woods!

2. Umbreon- originally an eevee he had pre-MH. The color scheme just matches Hoody well & the whole night-theme seems fitting. His specifically is easily aggitated ever since things starting going downhill.

3. Banette- Brian took it in just before things fell apart after finding it at one of Alex's film locations. Banette has prove to be a loyal companion, usually easy going and the one to sooth frayed nerves, but fully willing to curse its enemies. I thought it'd be cool to have a megastone in place of one of its eyes, although Hoody doesn't mega evolve it often. Again, color pallet seemed fitting, but Banette's Pokédex entries also seem fitting for his character.

4. Mimikyu- brought onto the team shortly after he took up the mask and acted as Hoody. His is rather shy and likes to mimic him. Picked mostly because I thought the cloth disguise fit nicely with his cloth mask and the mentions of loneliness in the Pokédex.

5. Yamask- the worrier of the team who showed up one day. I wasn't going to give him a yamask, but the color scheme is so perfect lol. I suppose the whole, 'the mask it carries is of its old face' lore could refer to Brian's life pre-MH.

6. Nickit- Hoody specifically caught one just to steal things like Tim's medicine. This one has a rather childish personality but is always eager to cause trouble by following Hoody's orders. I feel like this one is obvious; I picked it for the team because of its thief skills. I kept it unevolved because it seems cuter and I liked the 'cautious and cunning' description more than Thievul's.

Tim/Masky:

1. Growlithe- Given to him as a child to alert for seizures! Tim worries the poor pup when he goes into the Masky state. This well-trained Growlithe is his closest companion. I had to give him a friendly loyal dog Pokémon and like to think this one's mane has that well-loved stuffed animal texture.

2. Absol- he added this one to his team around the time Alex's project crumbled. Absol came to him in rough shape already and is often grumpy due to years of no one heeding his warnings. I wanted to add one to the team because I feel like Tim's character does warn Jay often of the dangers to stop, but keeps investigating & helping Jay anyway. Absol's colors also match Masky's mask well.

3. Mimikyu- found it one day and it followed him home. This one is curious about things and often helps Masky and Tim find items to help their goals. I wasn't going to add this to his team, but shiny Mimikyu reassembles his mask so I tossed it in.

4. Yamask- haunted him since childhood but Masky didn't add it to his team until the project fell apart. It's friendly and also likes to find tapes to bring back for its trainer. I specifically put yamask on the team for the mask item it carries around, and made it shiny to get it closer to the white mask color.

5. Pangoro- a powerful Pokémon that Masky exclusively tends to use. It's the muscle power to the team. Tim is... wary of Pangoro's aggressive nature but wouldn't feel good about abandoning it. I had to give him something that was a strong hitter since Masky is usually the one to attack. Pangoro's color scheme works well for Masky's mask too.

I didn't give him a 6th Pokémon because I felt like this was a nice line-up. I did consider and espeon or other eeveelution to play off Hoody's umbreon, but decided none really vibed well for me to add.

I also didn't plan on giving them duplicate Pokémon, but I liked yamask & mimikyu for each for different reasons, so there they are. If anything, they could reflect how the two seemed to work together for a time.

Sleepless Nights

Wattpad Request: Tim x Jay Ft. some angst with a happy ending!

Insomnia was nothing new to Jay at this point. Dark circles beneath his eyes were common and more often than not bags accompanied the exhausted look. Some nights he didn’t even know if he was awake or asleep anymore, not since Tim… left. 

Closing his eyes was no different than lying with them wide open facing the crappy motel ceiling when the room was this dark. It played with his mind sometimes, whispers of whether or not something might be lurking in the corners. Fears he’d had as a child only now it was so much more real. What if the shadow cast was really that Thing appearing in that mysterious way it did?��

It was too dark for shadows tonight. The blinds were tightly shut and the lights that should have lined the sidewalk had burned out. Jay felt like his chest was trying to rip itself apart and almost wished that familiar static would just drown out his consciousness. 

Tim left him behind.

The thought repeated as if his mind was an echo chamber. It didn’t make sense, things had been going well… or he’d thought they were. Alex was out there somewhere, a threat but one they’d been managing to avoid well. Answers weren’t easy to find but they’d gotten their hands on some old tapes he’d planned to make into entries at some point… Maybe when he could pull himself together enough to handle seeing Tim’s face on the screen.

“What did I do wrong?” No, it wasn’t his fault! It was that guy with the hoodie’s fault! 

Tim had left after ‘Hoody’, as viewers called the figure, broke into their former hotel room and stole not just Tim’s meds, but Jay’s camera as well. Jay had already searched Rosswood and the hospital, pleading with whatever higher powers might exist that he’d find Tim or that masked state he went into… no dice. Tim had replaced his meds the next day anyway, so it had been a slim chance that he’d relapsed, in hindsight. 

Jay blinked, not that he could tell beyond the rough feeling that said maybe he should invest in some eye drops. He felt small and alone now. No camera to keep things straight should he black out again and more importantly, no Tim to make him feel safe. He missed the man’s large arms around him as they both tried to get some form of rest. When one had a nightmare, the other was always right there to console them. Jay didn’t always dream anymore with how tired he was, but recently his nightmares consisted of Tim lying dead or dying somewhere in bumfuck nowhere.

Despite his mourning over the loss of his boyfriend, days of sleepless nights and stress caught up to him. Jay didn’t know when he slipped off to sleep, but it happened because at some point he was woken up by the door opening. His breath caught, fearing another break-in, before the dim orange light on the desk was switched on in the far corner—Jay hadn’t even heard the person move.

His eyes adjusted to the faint light and widened at the sight before him: Tim. His precious Tim, the man he’d thought might be out of his life forever. Was this a dream, or a hallucination? “T-Tim?” 

“Jay, sorry… I was trying not to wake you up.” Tim sat his things down on the floor and pulled off his coat, pills rattling in their bottle from within one of the pockets. 

“Where have you been? Are you okay? I thought you—” A camera was sat down on the TV stand, his camera. “You… found it?” 

“Didn’t you see my note? I said I was going after the guy.” Concern laced Tim’s soft voice; the bed dipped as he sat on its edge. “I didn’t think it’d take so long… Are you okay? Did something happen?” 

Note? What note? Fear seeped into his blood, chilling him as he considered what else might’ve been forgotten. Jay hadn’t even realized he’d been shaking until Tim was there to steady his scrawny form, engulfing it with strong arms and pressing him into Tim’s warm chest.

“I never saw the note, I don’t think.” Jay paused, realized how that could sound, and immediately scrambled to reassure him. “Everything else has been fine though! My head has been clear, I don’t feel like I’m forgetting anything… I must’ve just fallen and I didn’t see it.” 

Dark eyes watched him, lips pressed lightly against his head for a moment, and then Tim was gently pushing him to lie down again. “Okay… We’re fine, safe.”

Jay couldn’t tell who Tim was trying to convince. The feeling of a large hand rubbing soothing circles against his hand was enough to convince him the words were true though. Tim was back, of course everything was okay! 

“I’m going to shower and change, I’ll be right back.” Tim slowly moved further away, reluctant but the promise of returning soon was clear. “Try to get back to sleep.” 

Ever the worrier. Jay smiled and nodded. Weight lifted from his chest just knowing Tim was safe and soon they’d be in each others’ arms where nothing felt like it could harm them. The eagerness of the latter part was almost enough to keep him awake as he waited for Tim’s return from the shower. The sound of the running water was hypnotic though and he began to doze again until Tim rejoined him. 

Jay all but crushed himself against Tim as the shorter man settled down. Words were muffled as he spoke against the fabric covering Tim’s chest. “Don’t run off without me again.” 

A quiet hum and a hand was once more rubbing those soothing circles on his back this time. “Only if there is a next time… Let’s hope there won’t be.” 

"M’kay.” Right, of course. Jay nodded sleepily as he drifted off once more. 

For once after the past days, he could sleep without restlessly tossing. It was as if Tim’s very presence had driven the paranoia and fears from his mind, leaving him only blissful silence and peaceful dreams of what their life together after the waking nightmare was over would be like.
