Do you think that Eris is painted as a villain in other god’s stories because she herself can be used as a scapegoat for a title that was given to her at birth? That she can be an excuse for infidelity, abuse, and war because she is the goddess of and strife? When in turn, she is also the two sides of the same coin. On the other side, while she still creates enmity between two people, it pushed them to better themselves so they could simple be better.
Do you think that Eris had another motive to causing the Trojan War besides chaos? Didn’t Zeus cast her daughter Äte down to the mortal realm and take away her godliness because she had made him take a false oath in the swirl of a coup set up by his own wife, brother, and child? Has no one considered the possibility that Eris decided to get revenge by causing one of the (rumored) largest wars in human history? By making his people fight and kill each other, pitting the gods against one another?
Eris is said the be an ugly goddess, one that man and god fear. That the ugly goddess had no one love her. She is the symphony against beauty and the tide that breaks the cycle of femininity made by mortals because she herself follows no cycle and no standard. She simply is and will always will be.
Yet, despite all that she has done to humans, I feel like she loves them. Because in them she sees herself, chaos and strife. And yet she gets no love in return.
People forget that goddesses were once little girls too. In my mind, I’ve created a whole story for Eris. That she was young once and did harmless chaos and tricks until she had to take her title and being to use it as a defense mechanism against the men that paint her as a monster for their actions.

Let’s talk about Eris:
I don’t think Eris is entirely a villain. A goddess of chaos, born to be despised. She can’t help that she was born to cause mayhem. She’s just following the role she was given. I’d be upset too if a Mf made assumptions about me and didn’t invite me to their wedding cause of it. Not only that, she was done dirty. Her (possible) father banished her daughter, Äte, because she too was following her nature and had Zeus take an oath? I’d be devastated. She was mistreated while the others were praised no matter what.
And the myths say that no one loved her romantically because of her reputation so she had to have her own kids, I can’t help but feel bad for her. The only gods that seemed to like her was Ares and Enyo because they too understood the pain of being judged for their given titles. She’s basically the gods scapegoat and beck-and-call for when they do or want terrible things done. And she’s not entirely bad. She actually encouraged humans to be better so they can be the best, kind of like pettiness, but I feel like she has so much love for humanity because we’re all chaotic in some form. She wants us to be better so others can become jealous of us and then be better themselves. Kind of weird, but hey, can’t be too picky. I can only imagine how she would be today.
She would be the wind that messes up your hair, or the rain when you just stepped outside after doing it for hours. Your card declining with a whole buggy of groceries. That guy dropping his phone down the sewer grate. A kid dropping his ice cream. A parking ticket when you step away for five minutes. When the girl you match with on Tinder suddenly cancels due to a flat tire. A heel breaking in the middle of dancing with friends. She might be the things we hate, but in some aspects she’s the things that make us laugh. Like when we accidentally bump into a cute stranger. Or getting pushed into your crush’s shoulder. Tripping and falling in front of your friend. Your friend gets their hair stuck in the door. Spill a drink on your lap at a dinner with friends. Getting a terrible typo in a flirty text. Chaos can be small or big, but she’s always there to keep our lives interesting. Without her, life would be so boring. I am forever grateful for sweet Eris, she keeps my life fun and I couldn’t be happier. She deserves a better rep.

A faerie introduces himself. Then, holding out a hand, asks, “And your name, please?”
And, like a fool, you give it to him.
