A Big Collection of Art Tutorials

I find art tutorials really useful and also, sometimes quite far-flung. I'll come across one cool resource here and another incredibly helpful post in a totally different place, months later. I've been collecting bits and pieces of art advice that ease my way for a long time now, and I wanted to make a post to share some of the good art resources I've come found all in one place! GENERAL RESOURCES The Etherington Bros. have an enormous repertoire of drawing advice on their blog and I find almost all of it spot on! Griz and Norm have an incredible tumblr chock full of tutorials!

Drawing Den is a great tumblr that collects how-to-draw resources! Zephy.fr has some lovely free tutorials on their Insta (their main site is paid, but I've found the free resources to be quite helpful all on their own)

Sycra has a truly wonderful YT channel comprising a zillion vids on practically every topic - he's been going a long time and it's all excellent (his stuff on human anatomy and figure really fixed some difficulties for me)! DRAWING PEOPLE THIS is my favorite basic breakdown on expressions! A HELPFUL WAY to conceptualize drawing hair! People are complex - simplifying with CLEAR SILHOUETTE helps!

Aging or de-aging characters can be rough- THIS HELPS imo! WHEELCHAIRS are easy to get wrong if you don't have one/haven't studied how to draw them - and this is a very helpful remedy!

CLOTHES Hats are difficult to get sitting right and THIS POST helps a lot!

Suits and formal clothing can be A Lot: THIS LAYS IT OUT helpfully!

Hi! Love your art!! Can you do a tutorial on coloring hair? QwQ;

Okay I’ll try to do my best here (:

These are the flat colors you can ignore the rest since this will be about the hair. As you can see this is a really light blonde, this is the lightest color on his hair.

In DiaLovers everyone has a gradient from dark to lighter hair color, so here I added the darker base in the same layer I was working at first.

And this is where I mostly freak out or loose my patience XD. Let’s say Satoi makes three types of details in the hair: Main shadows (Mostly placed instead of highlights like most of us are used to see), actual shadows (placed for the hairs that make a shadow over the hair, for example Shu’s curls over his bangs and the shadows that indicate the hair is behind) and some stronger colors, in Shu’s case it’s an orange.

There I added in multiply and in a new layer clipped to the first one, the “main shadows” and I’m going to work on them first.

Well here is where shit comes real because I made a LOT of experiments from just picking the color or trying to work with effects so I don’t depend that much on a color palette.

I choose the transparent color, it’s that little friend between the color I was using and black.

I lock the layer and using both the marker tool and the airbrush, I ease them quite a lot.

These are the settings if you want them for anything xD.

After that I focus on the actual shadows, for these I make a new layer, set to multiply, still using the same color as for the main shadows. This time I use the marker tool and I add the fringe effect on the layer.

Now it’s time for the stronger colors, picking the color I used for Shu’s darker blonde tone in the first layer, I make a new layer above the first layer and under the main shadow’s layer! I set it to overlay and with the airbrush tool I start to modify the base color again, in Shu’s case this strong color is centered on the right side of his frontal bangs.

Now for the light one I add a layer under the actual shadows and above the main shadows, set to overlay as I did before and add this lighter color.

Now in a new layer set to screen I add a texture which I before colored with Shu’s main shadow color (: after that I ease the texture with the airbrush set with the transparent color. Or you can just reduce the opacity.

Final touches!!!

So after all the steps I go back to the lineart, add some linework to the main shadows, add some detail to the hair, strengthen the lineart of the main bangs and add some random colors (some shadows some lights) so it looks closer to satoi’s style. I normally do a lot of modifications with photoshop on the color balance and stuff but that’s for personal taste.

Hello, everyone!

It's been a while since we last published something here. We are sorry for that, life has been busy, but that doesn't mean we have pulled appart our world. The Nix and its marvels is still alive and we are still intending to share it with y'all. But we have decided to move into another platform, as well as choosing a more explorative way to show the world. We are going to be on Instagram, publishing a bit more about other characters, interactions, a bit of history, biology even, all world-related things we can come up with bit by bit.

We really appreciate the support you have been giving to us, and your love for our characters, it really means a lot for us and it gives us the impulse to keep working on this dream we have.

◢Nix's Origin: pt.1 - pt.2

Syntony.

Teacher: Armony.

Greetings, my beautiful little souls! Today it will be my pleasure to teach you the final topic regarding the process of Reproduction. Up until now you were forming couples with your Special Ones and came to us asking for a life you could raise. Yesterday, you learned the physical process that will allow you to reproduce by yourselves, the Sex. However, you need to learn one last thing before you start doing that, which is the topic of today's class. In the place where we, Gods, come from, reproduction could only be achieved between a man and a woman. I always deemed that rather unfair, that is why I created something more, something different from  the fact of being a man or a woman, I created The Syntony. 

The Syntony is the trait that will determine the role you will play in the process. As you learned yesterday, one person has to give a Seed, and the other one has to hold it and feed it until it becomes a life. Where I come from, the first role belonged to the man and the second one to the woman. With my Syntony system, there are new perspectives, three to be more precise. 

Gamma:

The first perspective or Syntony, is the Gamma. A Gamma, whether man or woman, is a person who's capable of giving a seed. The man's reproductive organ is specially designed for that task, but I adjusted the woman's reproductive organ just a little bit so it can receive a seed much more easily, making possible for said organ to hold the fluids of another woman. 

Metta:

The Metta is the second type of Syntony. This trait determines that the man or woman is capable of holding this seed inside their bodies for it to grow and turn into a life. As you can notice, the woman's organ is designed to be hidden and protected, that's why it is a hole, so we needed to design something similar for the men. That's why we decided to use that Secondary Hole you all have. We never told you, but that hole had a very...unpleasant and nasty usage where we come from, we solved the problem it was designed to regulate with a much better and clean way, that is why one of the other Gods decided to give that meaningless hole the purpose of pure pleasure. And now I give it the purpose of reproduction in the case of Metta men. 

Yect'a:

The third type of syntony is easier to explain, as it is simply the ability to both give and hold a seed.

Conclusion:

If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them. However let's avoid questions regarding the process of giving birth, that will be for another class.

Greetings people! We are here once again. Today I wanted to ask something related to the Data Posts. The thing is, most of the information I'm giving is for context and curiosity, but at the beginning of the Nix, the Gods themselves used to descend upon the first humans and explain the wonders of creation to them. (that's basically the origin of religion in the Nix, as the nations of the New world have ancient manuscripts, statues and painted walls in caves dedicated to the Primordial Gods by the First humans.)

My question is, would you like for Some Data Posts to be told by the Gods themselves to the readers as if you were those first humans? I'm thinking it would be fun to roleplay that way.

Hello there! Today I come here more excited than usual. For those who have read the very few chapters of the After Five series you can remember the main character "Evil". But for those who do not have time but still follow or interact with our blog, this man of black wings is basically the prince of the Nix, he is the child of the recently revealed character, the Goddess Armony.

I am so excited because we finally have drawings of these two, and this one when he's a kid, I cannot help but seeing that peace and innocence in his eyes that remind me of his mother.

Hey there Tumblr people, it is I, once again. In my process of recovering my inspiration, I was revisiting the Nix, fixing some concepts, working on some characters, and I got so excited to talk about it. So I'm going to drop some information here through these "Data Posts" for you to know fun things about the Nix and other plot outside the Vampire's Theme!

◢ Energy

Today's topic is Energy. Every living creature in the Nix has these three "spiritual" energies, which allows them to perform various wonders.

The first one here is the Soul, the Soul is the energy that gives something the ability to leave and reborn. Several scientists, wizards and alchemists have tried to create life, but even the most perfect bodies couldn't move freely without a soul.

The second energy is the Aura. Aura is the vital energy that connects everything and everyone, there are two types of Aura, Natural and Spiritual. The Natural Aura is the one that exists everywhere outside living beings, it is what prevents planets to crumble, what allows all the elements to coexist in harmony. The Spiritual Aura is the one that connects the soul and the body, it allows people access their powers and the skills of their races, however this energy is too strong for the untrained individuals to use, is like having the energy but not the gear to use it. When skilled at its usage, people can access the strongest of their abilities, one good example is Hell and his God Form, all of that is Aura, an energy which cannot be defeated with any common element, not even light or dark.

Since the bodies are not strong enough to withstand it, Aura turns itself into the third form of energy, Aether. It is weaker version of Aura and it allows all the wonderful things species do without Pure Aura. Some examples would be: The fire of a dragon or a Fenix, the magic song of the mermaids, the use of darkness of the demons or vampires, the special powers of the super-human, the connection with nature of dwarfs, elves and fairies. As said before, the maximum display of those abilities is accessed only through Aura, as long as Aether is used, elements are weaker and vulnerable to other elements, as the Fire used by the Demon Prince of Wrath, filled with Aura, that fire can turn oceans to deserts.

◢Nix's Origin pt.1

The Nix at first was an infinity space of nothingness, a dark void that existed for millions of years, until suddenly a great explosion of light appeared, and with it, five entities entered that void, these individuals were to be known as the Primordial Gods or The Gods of Creation. Today I'm going to show you a little bit of their leader:

This is Armony Blackestar, the Goddess of All Creation, the guardian and embodiment of harmony and peace. (In Spanish the word for harmony is very similar, but it has no H at the beginning, so I mixed those words for her name, and her last name is a combination between Blackest and star).

Each of them had a special task to create from this void a new world. At first, anything created would be crushed by some invisible force, as the nothingness wouldn't want a "something" to be born inside of it. So Armony with her powers Became the Nix, she herself Is the canvas of creation, she turned that nothingness into something completely, those who had the chance to see her and comprehend her beauty described her eyes as the reflection of all the starts and her hair as the threads of space and time, she was now like lighthouse that would guide this universe into existence.

When they first started to create the features of the universe, they all could only picture ideas, blueprints and sketches, but she was the one to turn those ideas to reality.

As an author, she is my second favorite character, as she is the most beautiful, kind, peaceful and joyful person that has ever existed in the Nix, I even feel I like her this much because sometimes I think I didn't make her, he came to existence in my mind.

(She even fell in love with a human which is one of my favorite love stories qwq)

▷Cʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 5

Chapter 4 — Chapter 5 — Chapter 6

With his arms chained and a mask covering his mouth and nose to help him breathe, Evil is escorted by four guards to the White Palace, the central hub of the Fangs kingdom and home of their king. The individuals escorting the pale man looked like Sasha when he first met her; instead of legs, they had long shark tails. However, their skin had a grayish hue, and they had gills in the neck area. As they advanced, more beings with human-like features emerged, glaring at the prisoner. Eventually they reached an area filled with enormous buildings, bright lights and several aquatic creatures swimming around. It was like a grand underwater civilization, which they easily traversed as the inhabitants feared the guards and made way for them. At this point, Evil began to understand what the young man had told him earlier about the shape-shifting creatures; many of these beings were more advanced than he had initially believed.

After passing through the city, they stood before a massive silver castle with several watchtowers, covered by a spherical force field. With their arrival an opening was created in the force field for Evil and his captors to enter. After a series of protocols, they arrived before King Dand, a Fang measuring about 3 meters with impressive musculature. He had white skin in the front and black skin in the back, a dorsal fin, dark eyes, a long hair floating over his shoulders, a mouth full of sharp teeth, a blue crown atop his head, and the characteristic gills of his species. He sat on his grand throne, which matched the castle's color, and to his left was a massive black lance with a blade resembling an axe head.

—Your majesty, we have the criminal who has been attacking our citizens —One of the guards reported, bowing before the king and referring to Evil.

—So, this is him, huh? He doesn't seem very threatening —King Dand remarked. Descending from his throne and swimming toward Evil, the Fang grabbed the angel by the hair. —He looks like a mere human to me. —A statement he was about to take back as soon as he noticed Evil's pupil-less eyes. —No, not just a human, something else...- Dand smirked, chuckled and returned to his throne. -Take him away, execute him, and...

—Is there something wrong, my lord? —A guard asked upon seeing his king in total silence while staring intently at the prisoner. The soldier did not know it, but the king was receiving a telepathic message from Evil.

—Believe me, I can be of use to you. As you can see, I'm not just any human; I have abilities. If you spare my life, you'll have a new resource for whatever you might need. —Evil transfered, the monarch seemed reflective about this offer. —Change of plans, take him to the cells and leave him there. Perhaps he'll be useful to us in the future.

They quickly took him to a remote area deep within the kingdom, a complex of high-tech prison structures ensuring that those who entered could not escape, an almost perfect system. When they reached a cell, Evil was left there and a massive metal door covered the entrance, completely trapping him between four walls. Moments later, a device removed the water from the area and took off Evil's chains and breathing mask. After a couple of stretches, he used his powers to create a thick smoke cover and teleported back home. Unfortunately, his house was in ruins; furniture, decorations, books, and various items were destroyed and worst of all, Sasha was nowhere to be found. Evil let out an scream full of wrath and, using his powers, reappeared back in his cell.

Now in the Fang Kingdom's prison, the angel enveloped his body with white light energy, with his supernatural strength, he broke the cell and used the energy to move as fast as a bullet, going towards the castle. When he arrived, he collided with the force field and subsequently separated all the water outside the castle, creating an opening to the surface. Using a water whirlwind, he rose into the skies, where he floated near some clouds, compressing them into rain clouds that began to shoot lightnings. At this point, Evil himself was struck by the energy of the lightning as he stood at the center of the clouds. In an instant, he dispelled the clouds and his body was surrounded by electricity, resembling a walking thunderstorm. His face reflected an incredible rage over Sasha's loss and his suspicion of the Fangs. He was determined to eliminate them mercilessly. He extended his arm toward the castle and released all the energy from the lightning that coursed through his body. Though he couldn't shatter the force field, he left it cracked. Evil dove at high speed and delivered a powerful kick to the weakened area, ultimately shattering the barrier. He then descended into the throne room, destroying roofs and towers along his path. The inhabitants, and even several guards, fled in terror to save their lives far from the area. Finding himself in the king's hall, he saw the king on the floor struggling to breath.

The angel restored the sea, returning the waters to its place. The pale man held his breath and grabbed Dand by the neck. —Where is she? —Interrogating with his mental powers, he searched for Sasha's location in the Fang's memories. Why here? Why them? Evil was convinced it was them, given Sasha's fear. He suspected that they had a past connection and he did not have any other leads.

—I don't know who you're talking about! —Dand replied, confused, visibly angered, and somehow powerless after witnessing such a display of power.

—Don't play dumb with me! —Evil shouted, causing the waters to move violently, knocking down walls. Then, he placed both hands on Dand's face and entered his mind, seeking information. Unfortunately, he found nothing about Sasha. Instead, he discovered the location of the second king, Fog. To buy some time, he shattered Dand's mind, leaving him unconscious.

He quickly shot out of the water and flew towards a vast land of jungles and forests. Controlling the air, he propels himself to glide silently over a palace amidst the jungle, devoid of any signs of a city or villages, unlike the Fangs realm. Stealthily, he descends and hides among the trees. From the shadows, he observes guards with green scales and tails, carrying various weapons like shields, swords, and spears. He then looks into the distance, identifying King Fog, a two meters tall individual in gray clothes and a long cape, with a large tail, white scales, and hair of the same color covering his body. He had slit pupils in his eyes and a crown that complemented his cape. Beside him are scantily clad women, one of them being Sasha. As he witnessed this, he lunges at one of the guards, biting his neck and tearing it off. The king is surprised and rises from his throne. Meanwhile, a dozen guards arrive, surrounding Evil. He slowly stood up, and black lines appear all over his body; his blood had turned this color, and his veins had swollen. This was Evil's regenerative ability. When his blood and veins returned to normal, his large black wings extended from his back. All the guards were stunned, and the king seemed nervous. Evil, with a maniacal smile, dissipates into shadows and swiftly appears behind each guard, decapitating them one by one by cutting their necks with the strength of his hands. Blood jets cover the ground, leaving no time for them to react, bones, heads and vomit of those who were seconds away from dying decorate this gross puddle. The monarch remained calm, knowing that one wrong move could lead to his death, but internally, he was terrified by the scene. With the same speed, Evil stands in front of the king. By now, all the women had seized the moment to escape, while Sasha was lying on the ground, looking at Evil with great fear for what was happening before her. Fog steps aside, allowing Evil to take Sasha. The angel walked towards the girl and delivers a surprising kick to Fog, sending him kilometers into the jungle. He crouches in front of Sasha, embracing her and covering her with his wings, saying a phrase:

—Now everything will be fine, my mermaid.

Okay, this one is a sad and unsettling story, ehem.

Introducing! Zira and Sizen, they are the same person, but you'll understand if I explain it as a story. Zira was a yeti (yetis are little cold animals with powerful horns), Zira's hero name was G.O.A.T (Greatest Of All Times), she was the Number 1 Hero of her country and she was working exclusively for the government, that's why she has Aries' symbol on her back. For many years she was the perfect hero until a video of her having relations with other two people was leaked and suddenly a lot of people started to hate her, even saving people became impossible. So, the government made a choice, with futuristic technology they changed her body and turned her into a man, they brainwashed her into thinking she was another person, Sizen, Aries Maximum. They told the media that Zira was murdered by a villain and now, her twin brother Sizen was going to take her place as a new hero. Sizen is currently alive and he's the number 2 hero, only surpassed by The Gladiator.

We both, Drya and Sander, we have many roles in private, all of them located in different places (and times) of the Nix, with character of minor importance (unlike Hell who is important even in the main story). We are starting a new one and she made these sketches, this story will be a huge drama-romance involving several superheroes of a futuristic society. Judging by these two... This is going to be wild :D.

Note: These two are Kai and Birr, Inkman and Gladiator. One is a Qink (a wizard species of ink and paint) and the other is a Timecracker (a powerful species of Time people).
