@dagmartoons here ya go :D _ _ _
The leg has always been their worry. . .the broken hip, busted knee, possible broken femur from his leg getting crushed in the car. Femurs are hard things to break. Their also the most at risk when they break due to potential issues that can occur with to all the major blood vessels and muscle networks and nerves and such. The leg had always been their worry, always been the main goal to save cause god forbid Lupin loose it and really have his life screwed up. . .Jigen can deal with rehabilitation, but he cannot deal with the outcome that may occur if Lupin looses the leg
Doctors are worried when infection sets in, but so much shit is wrong with the guy that it’s not surprising. . .what IS surprising is when the infection gets worse and suddenly Jigen is in a room surrounded by a bunch of people in white suits all discussing the idea of the most dreaded word Jigen has ever heard in his life and as they try to convince him that maybe it would be more beneficial for the leg to go
Infection isn't something to mess around with. For his leg to be so badly mutilated to the point of his blood essentially poisoning him, a discussion of possibly amputating the limb must be had. Jigen probably would fight as much as possible against the idea, imploring and even begging them to try every other possible route because he knows just how much Lupin needs both of his legs
like lupin is good at robotics
he could make a new leg
could deck it out and make it work as good as he can
but it's still the idea
not to mention the phantom pain would be nearly unbearable at times
Bit of a gut punch given the choice to attempt to continue treatment for his leg or to simply amputate it altogether, But Lupin asked for Jigen to help him make the decision.
But once again, Jigen finds himself freezing.
He has no idea what to say,
So he tells Lupin that he has to think about it for a little while. Which he has time to do, but he's still on the metaphorical clock, so to speak
But he doesn't "think"
At least not right away
Instead he just dips to cope and put it at the back of his mind for a while by hopefully spending some "time" with fujiko
Of fucking course he quickly learns that that isn’t going to work and he just has to say it to her
Him randomly just walking into Fujiko’s hotel room after dealing with this whole debacle for a few hours and originally he came here for a little “stress relief” but obviously Fujiko notices something is up by how he’s sitting on the end of the bed with his fingers steepled against his mouth and how cold and stone like he looks in his eyes.
Looks that she’d know by now mean that he was internally debating with himself and not liking the outcome of the argument
She asks him what’s up and oh imagine how bluntly he says the next words to her
“They wanna take his leg”
fujiko's heart dropping when she hears it, part of her hopes she misheard him but she knows what he said all she can think to respond with is a soft and fearful "what?"
Jigen chuckling as if in disbelief
“haha. . .yeah not the best news I’ve gotten all week”
Fujiko stopping everything and being like "ok we need to get everyone together and talk about this" bc it's literally pt 2 of that whole 'what would we do if Lupin couldn't thieve anymore' discussion
Jigen just taking a deep breath and nodding when Fuji says they need to talk about this. That all of them need to talk
No amount of "stress relief" would be able to fix this It's too somber, too severe
So they get dressed or whatever they have to do to get themselves situated and start making some calls
Fuji calling up Goe, jigen calling Zeni
Time passes and they all convene in Fuji's hotel room
Zeni probably shows up last, but they tell Goe and Zeni the news at the same time
They feel horrible having this sort of discussion without Lupin here with them-- but at the same time, it's one that they couldn't have if he were here, either.
so HERE are the Oppositions
Jigen and Zenigata: Amputation
Jigen's undecided ofc, that's kinda the whole point
And it doesn't matter if it's majority, they'd all decide pretty early on that the decision needs to be unanimous
Zeni would say amputate. Not because it'd mean Lupin can't be a thief anymore (or that it'd be a while until he figures out how to thieve again), that's the last thing he wants, but because it's the safest option. The best guarantee of recovery and the greatest avoidance of the unthinkable.
Considering how jigen might be frantic to fix it and for things to finally calm back down, he'd probably be leaning towards amputation for the same sort of reasons as Zeni. But the idea of Lupin losing a leg is absolutely terrifying to him, not to mention Lupin counting on him to decide whether to make the call or not.
Fujiko: No Amputation
Fujiko could reason that Lupin doesn’t do well with change and would be on the side of Non-Amputation. Not in the regular sense of people not doing well with change but in the sense that he has so very few constants in his life and he leans on those so heavily even if it’s not noticeable to outsiders. He has those few constants and without those tethers he loses himself. And right now things are already changing so much she doesn’t want him to have to lose anything else.
Fujiko won’t admit it, but Jigen knows how much she cares for Lupin, he’s come to accept the notion, especially in the weeks that have followed since this shit started.
Much like him, she has not handled the stress very well. The reason why Fujiko tends to stay is suave hotels attached to casinos
lots of big headed blue-bloods making it big, lots to swoon over her and lots of idiots she can steal from.
Because Lupin was everything to them. Without him they're drowning in how much they miss him and coping in ways they know
But Jigen is smart because also knows deep down that anyone riding the wave will eventually have to get off or fall
Fujiko just seems to end up falling more often now. Much like Lupin and Jigen, her tethers are snapping and if it makes her feel miserable
god what is it gonna do to Lupin
Goemon: No Amputation
Goemon's a bit tricky, but I'd say he'd be the most against it. He's very into self-improvement (shit way to put it but idk how else to) and would wholeheartedly believe that Lupin would be able to power through whatever sort of recovery might be necessary, no matter how much time it might take and no matter the risk to his health (bc lets be honest, Goemon tends to do the same thing to himself).
Honestly I just really like the idea of Goemon getting the chance to go off for once ;;;
Like, he can't fking believe that zeni and jigen are even considering amputation, it's completely unfathomable to him and he just digs into them for it
They've all been injured severely at some point and this has never been offered up as an option before, he doesn't understand how this scenario would be different from any of those other time
but imagine Jigen digs into the fact that Goemon hasn’t even been up to see Lupin since this happened and questioning him as to why everyone else has been up to see him besides Goemon
………goemon snapping back that jigen never gave him the chance to
which leads to
Jigen and Goemon Argument
Jigen actually ends up getting into a shouting match with Goemon on how dare he judge their decisions when he hasn’t even had the stones to go UP and see Lupin. And how he refuses to allow Goemon to use the fact he’s been guarding his sister as a excuse cause even MADDIE has pushed him to visit but Goemon refused
Jigen saying that Goemon never needed his permission to visit lupin,
but Goemon saying that he had no way of knowing that when he's been avoiding him ever since that fight he had with lupin in pt 5
Jigen railing into him over what he did. Because tbh this fight has been a long time coming and Jigen didn’t want to say anything about it but tensions are high and Jigen is on a trigger
He won’t say things he regrets though he’s close to it, but he will mention that Goemon has a lot of nerve considering what he did
And if Goemon tries to use the excuse that he has never been the only one to try and kill each other of the group, and that they’ve done it all the time and what makes the difference now
Only for Jigen to point out how no one has EVER actually tried to kill each other and that’s what Goemon doesn’t seem to get, they have always pretended but no one except Goemon has actively tried to KILL someone from this group and not only that nearly succeeded in doing so
However before he can continue, too Jigen’s surprise, however, Zeni steps into the ring in Goemon's defense for one simple reason
Tumblr media
Zeni would probably say that jigen hasn't seen the full extent of Goemon's regret, and the fact that Goemon gave up everything when he believed he had 'defeated' lupin is proof enough that Goemon isn't making some kind of 'excuse' for what he did.
At the end, I'm sure they're all aware that Jigen is just snapping under stress. He's upset, he wants Lupin better, he doesn't want to have the conversation about his leg, he doesn't want to make these choices, he just wants to wake up beside him in bed and this is all just a bad dream
but thats not gonna happen any time soon. . .

Was thinking of this idea again and was reminded of another idea that some stupid reason I REALLY like
But do you think deep down
during. . .all this
that there's a more darker part of Zeni who actually thought about
just stopping
Less for Lupins benefit
But more his own
he has the mans life literally in his hands
well under them anyways
and while we always know that Zenigata never truly wants Lupin to die, more so pay for his crimes like a honest man
there is also probably a part that creeps in real quietly and subtly that tells him the benefit of what happens if he was to just let him die
he HATES it
he despises it
but he does let it talk, tries to understand its point of view
and it sickens him to know that he does understand it
He knows deep down that yes if he lets Lupin die he can possible try his damndest to work hard to achieve the life he once had
gain back the respect the admiration maybe people would take him seriously once again
realize he's not a whackjob, that he DOES know what he's doing
that he does take his job seriously and not everything was his fault
maybe as he thinks about it, he slowly stops, raises his hands up, still locked on one another, a small lapse in judgement telling him to just stop. . .just let the guy go and go on with his life
maybe he does actually think about stopping-as a paramedic calls out his name with a questioning tone, he's good at lying, he's learned how to perfect it over the years, maybe he could convince Jigen he tried his best but in the end it was to much, no one would have to know. he could have his old life back
he could have his old life back, the praise and respect he's truly missed over the years
But. . .maybe . . .instead in the end he just curses himself
damns Lupin and continues
because he also knows deep down
that he is in way to deep for anything to finally change now anyways even if he does let Lupin die
Maybe that's why he's hesitant to stay when Lupin taps at him not to go
because it was just a mere hour or so ago that he was actually ready to just let Lupin die. . .
and the guilt is eating at his bones
Cause Lupin would never know. . .
he would never know how close he was to death at that moment,
and how it would have been Zeni's fault

Lupin was blind there was no better way to describe it.
With his orbit basically fucked up so badly to the point that he couldn't even wear his prosthetic eye let alone even the fake glass one for weeks, Lupin spent a majority of even his discharge near completely blind, basically working with a half working eye that couldn't seen 6 feet in front of him and a gap where his missing eye was suppose to be. This lead to many problems,
but one in particular was Lupin's new habit of waking up with fear painted in his face and no immediate recognition. Being blind Lupin often frequently woke up in panic's because he couldn't always be 100% certain on things, and one in particular was if he woke up in the same place he slept.
Jigen had learned ways of dealing with Lupin with his limited eyesight since they were kids. He knew what to say and what to do to calm Lupin enough that all he needed was reassurance that he was where he last laid and everything was alright.
However, the infection that Lupin had caught during his stay at the hospital had made things far more complicated then they needed to be. And that was because, the infection was a gift
that just kept on giving
even long term
Tumblr media
The Hallucinations were new.
A symptom of long term problems that Jigen was never certain on how to deal with. Before hand it was simple to get Lupin to relax in case he panicked and freaked. But hallucinations made things much harder, especially if Lupin had woken up to them
The best way to describe these issues in particular was the idea of an old dog and how they tended to get "lost" in their old age, to the point where they'd wander and get confused and sometimes when you finally found them, they would often be in the corner of a room or something either listless or freaking out.
Lupin could easily be both, and normally Jigen was usually able to tell if he has to intervene just by how Lupin reacts to things
if he seems to have a idea on where he is then Jigen just has to wait
if he doesn't then Jigens gotta help unless he wants Lupin to work himself up too much
Tumblr media
Most of the time thankfully, it was listlessness, points at times where someone would often go to get Lupin up for whatever reason one morning and finding out he's already awake
except unlike sometimes, something is wrong this time
sometimes you would find that he woke himself up because he woke up from a fright and was now standing in the corner of a room shaking, sorta slouched with a dead look in his eye . . .well more then what it already looks. . .looking like he has no idea where he is with sweat dripping off his collar bone and gluing his hair to his forehead
but what made it worse, was even if the hallucinations were not visual
not being able to see the potential source of auditory hallucinations was just as troublesome.
Jigen tried to help one time.
Lupin could barely see, a gap that never moved and a blind eye constantly twitching back and forth and seeing his friend in such a state, Jigen had made a mistake, went to touch him, to softly grab him.
But the moment a (to him) foreign touch makes itself known, Lupin freaked the fuck out basically rapidly backing up before he slammed into the back wall hard. Jigen could've spend half the time trying to calm him down and tell him it was just him but Lup never looked like he was processing what he was saying at all anyways
maybe he's half asleep maybe he's having an episode
someone hears the bang and comes to check are frighten by what they see
Not wanting to make a bad situation worse, Jigen basically ends up telling them to stay back. But it's too late
they already catch a glimpse of Lupin.
softly panting trembling his knees shaking cause he stood up so fast and thank god the adrenaline is coursing through his system because otherwise the pain would hit him like a sledgehammer and he'd be on the floor.
maybe Jigen tries to talk to him calm him down tries to get him to sit
cause 9 times outta 10 this usually is because Lupin is still half asleep, he just needs Lupin to sleep again.
Getting him to sleep is hard Coherency is not one of his strong suite during these moments so its hard to convince Lupin to do things and unless Jigen wants to strong arm him, his best bet is to try and get Lupin to do it himself anyways he can.
Its tough, when Lupin gets worked up he doesn't want to move but when his muscles start loosening and his head starts to sag, Jigen will take that moment and will move forward and gently grab at him
Lupin never remembers its like fog the only thing he does slightly remember is the pain that comes after his body sore his head light. Waking up with his head in Jigens lap

LJ Idea that because kaz fucked up his orbit so badly that Lupin cant wear his prosthetic eye or even the fake one for weeks that lupin spends even his discharge near completely blind
Lupin is basically working with a half working eye and a gap, so even after his discharge he cant see worth a shit
Even when everything’s all said and done Lupin still gets nervous even after leaving because every little sound makes him nervous but he can’t see so he’s very liable to spook
He needs some sort of physical contact with jigen at all times to ground himself, which most of the time is them holding hands, or just Jigen finding ways to wake him without scarring the living daylights out of him because lupin frequently wakes up and panics bc hes blind so he cant always be 100% sure hes in the same place he was last night
Jigen is the only one who knows how to wake him without scaring the absolute shit out of him
The others haven’t really caught on yet The only reason jigen has is because Jigen learned ways of dealing with Lupin with his limited eyesight since they were kids
It’s sorta like falling back into old almost forgotten routine, muscle memory. Jigen actually in the end does end up feeling bad for the others They are never able to wake him up without scaring him
Fujiko especially
especially since she's literally just learning things about Lupin she's never known before
like the fact he doesn't have "true" eyesight and has basically been coping with only half eyesight, which has just gotten a lil worser now
it also bothers her in particular because she's unused to seeing Lupin so vulnerable and afraid, or him waking up with fear painted in his face and no immediate recognition

Wrote something for my LJ series that wont be posted on my AO3 for a while cause we're not up to this part of the story, but this was an attempt at writing 2 characters that are being introduced into the story and I figured I might as well share it cause I actually like how it came out
Characters belong to @pavlien
"Keep walking"  Someone mumbled, breathing warm and harsh and that voice was the only thing grounding Kaz to his own body. He felt sick, his muscles burned and chilled and there was an acrid aftertaste in the back of his throat like nothing he had tasted in years. How many times has he gotten sick so far? He didn't know. It was all spinning hard and fast around him...
...there had been so many dead bodies. So many corpses with no reason to be dead. People he knew. . .people he once knew. Why did it ever get this bad?
He should have listened.
He should have listened to Oliver, Oliver always was the smarter one of the two of them. He knew better. Kaz hated him for leaving, but now he understood why he did. Now he understood and it took everything in Kaz to keep from sobbing for the first time in such a long time.
Sobbing. Vomiting. Cursing his own name.
Oliver had never steered him wrong before. Why on earth would he have ever thought that he would do it now? Why did he never say anything when Don labeled him a traitor. . .when they. . . he knew better. . .why did he. . .
God. Why was it so fucking hot.
It was supposed to be winter for god-fucking-sakes, the season of falling leaves and frosty mornings. Instead, it felt as if he'd just walked out into a blazing, relentless sun that pierced through his eye like needles and made his head ache.
He'd never been thirsty and hot like he had been now in such a long time. . .
"Kaz."
He tried to say something but his throat was too dry to do more than give a thin whine.  Someone grabbed his shoulder roughly and shook. A shock-wave of pain raced down his side and he let out a hoarse cry, practically curling in on himself.
“You gotta stay awake.  C’mon, stand up straight-” It was an order, rough but with the smallest bit of shake underneath. Enough to force the man back to reality.
He blinked and forced his eye open. He had been wrong. . .It wasn’t the sun overhead that greeted him with needles forced into the only eye he had left in his buzzing skull. It was instead a blindingly bright overhead fluorescent lamp against a bruised blue sky, flickering and buzzing and making spots dance in front of his vision. A cold breeze blew around him, bringing with it a bleak winter chill, but it didn’t bother him much. He was hot anyways. He was warm, the cold didn’t bother him. Instead something else did. Something sharp pricked his chest and he squirmed. He ached, waves of pain still rolling through him every time those rough, calloused hands touched him.
Kaz’s breathing lapsed in little spasms and waves and there were so many things wrong with this that he couldn't keep his eye open for more than a moment without feeling the need to retch in the nearest bush.  The voice that spoke to him sounded warbled, like he was hearing it through water.  His head spun. Maybe it wasn’t Oliver. . .maybe it was someone else.
The hands grabbed him again and lifted for a better hold. “Damn - dang it, you’re heavier than you look.”
No it couldn’t be Oliver. . .there was a shake underneath that tone. Oliver never did scare easy. . .besides. . .he was gone. . . Oliver was never coming back. Don had seen to that. So who was this holding onto him with such desperation?
He doesn’t have time to think before his knees buckle under his weight and he hits the floor, the  sharp concrete underfoot driving deep against his kneecaps.  Someone else falls with him, knocked off balance. The pain, hard and jarring, seemed to galvanize Kaz for a moment and with a sudden snap back to reality he looked up. Sweat dripped in his eye and Oliver was already getting up and was yanking him on his arms to pull him back up.
It was Oliver. . .
oh god it was him.
Wait. . . Wait.. . .when had he come back. . .why did he come back. Why was he here, what was he doing here. Don was going to kill him if he knew he was here.  Oliver was a traitor. Don would have him killed. . .
But he was here. Oh god he was here and he was yanking him to his feet and Kaz’s head swam and dipped and turned and tilted and whirled. . .
And Oliver was indeed very much silent but there was a fear in his eyes that even Kaz couldn't begin to describe even if he could think long enough to do so. But Oliver remained warm and present and rough, a solid weight against his bad side, grounding him to reality. That's all he wanted, that presence. Even after all that had happened, even after all that he did, Oliver had come back to him.
Maybe people were right. Maybe they were indeed inseparable, in both life and death it seemed.
“Kaz, c’mon.”  Oliver shook him again and he blinked, trying to focus. It wasn’t hot anymore, but the pain in his side was growing, a throbbing burn in his stomach that stretched across his side and down his leg.
“On your feet,” he commanded this time, throwing Kaz’s arm over his shoulder. “I can’t drag you Kaz.”
“Let me sleep,” Kaz rasped, even though he knew the answer would be no.
“You need to walk…”
So much damn pain over so much shriveled useless tissue.  Why was it getting worse?
"Shit…"
Kaz felt something warm and wet against his stomach. His fingers trail down, but Oliver slaps his hand away.
"Don't touch it, you idiot. C'mon, keep moving."
Kaz was pulled upright suddenly and a shock of pain traveled down his side. The wet warmth on his shirt spread, so hot he thought it might burn him. His fingers tingled and the lights began to spin.  He didn't really feel hot anymore, just...confused. Why was Oliver here? Why did he come back. . .why didn’t his feet want to move properly?
"Ollie, I can't do this."
Oliver visibly winces at the familiar nickname and God Kaz absolutely despises how he sounded. He didn't want to give up, not again. Not after...He didn’t want to sound weak. . .but why was he hurting so much. . .what was going on, why was his head swimming and burning and cold and. . .
And was this what dying felt like. . .it had to be, he remembered a similar feeling from years ago and it still scared him how much he remembered about it. . .but. . .this felt
different.
"We need to leave, Freak," Oliver finally rasped, exhausted and Kaz never thought he would ever hear that nickname flow from his lips ever again. But for the first time Kaz could hear it shake just so and he was sure now that something was indeed very wrong. "Walk with me, that's it."
They walked. Half walked, half ran, stumbled. Tripped, fell, got up again.
There was silence between them. Quiet, and Kaz felt his heart in his throat, legs sticking and movements jarred as Oliver ushered them both on.
And on, and on, and on.
"But what about Don..." Kaz rasps suddenly. . .because he still remembers Don’s orders. . . Oliver was a wanted man. . .what if Don found him. . .what would they do? But Oliver doesn’t sound too worried. . .
“Don’t worry about it. . .just keep moving”
Something was wrong. . .Kaz knew that. . .but what.
"But Ollie. . .Ollie where will we go?" Kaz whispered finally.
At that, Oliver stops suddenly. Kaz holds his weight on a numb leg as best he can and opens his eye, and Oliver is bright and shiny in the heat encompassing his vision. Oliver’s brow creases in a way Kaz never thought he would miss seeing. And Oliver thinks before he starts moving them again.
"I don't know, Kaz," Oliver answered just as quietly.
Kaz didn’t question it any more. Sometime later, they hear sirens rumbling in the distance, blue and red flashing rapidly down the road. Oliver curses. He pulls Kaz close to him and holds him tightly against him, pressed hard against a concrete wall out of sight. A breeze blows, rustles the bushes they hide behind. The cold of the air seemed to lift him bodily. The moon was in the sky.
The police cars turn a corner and head straight for the Docks. Oliver waits a few moments till they're all out of view before they start moving again.
On the slope at the end of the road, a car seemed to sit in the moonlight. Like a savior in the night, a boat to a drowning man lost at sea, and pressed against him, Kaz could suddenly feel Oliver’s heart begin to give off tremendous explosions like a rifle,
bang bang bang.
Oliver leaves him pressed against the cool metal of the car's passenger door while he goes to jerry-rig the other door open. He still talks to him; he mentions something about Vincent but Kaz doesn’t really hear him anymore. By then his body had been giving it its all, but his vision and hearing had slowly started to fail him. When he finally got a good look down at himself, he noticed how bloodsoaked his shirt and the front of his jeans were; the wetness bright red and warm but almost inky black in the night.
He also noticed how his leg looked near mangled and laid at an awkward angle from just below the knee. The sight should have frightened him, and the sudden chill should have done worse. But when the encroaching darkness finally encompassed his failing vision, and all he could hear was Oliver’s rough and accent-touched voice suddenly start calling his name with a frantic sense of urgency, Kaz’s only thought though, was how happy he was to admit to himself and only to himself. . .just how tremendously joyful he was to have Oliver’s stone-like presence beside him once again.
