Edgin Darvis and Holga Kilgore from Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves vs. Jolteon and Crap Gorps from Dogs In Love 2!
Propaganda for Edgin and Holga:
They live together and raise a child together and are explicitly nonromantic
Theyre literally canonically partners in life AND raise a kid together. But have no romantic feelings for one another. But they Dont need romantic love to still love each other so deeply. Spoilers for the dnd movie. But edgin literally gave up the chance to bring his wife back from the dead to save holga. Because. She's always had his back. Because *she* is who raised his daughter. They end the movie as a FAMILY. No romance involved.
they raise a kid together but don't have even a hint of romantic chemistry (in fact both of them have canon love interests who are not each other); the only person they put before each other is their daughter (the biological child of Edgin & his late wife); they understand each other better than anyone else & rely on each other without even thinking about it
Propaganda for Jolteon and Crap Gorps:
Listen. LISTEN. They're aro/ace solidarity (Jolteon is aro, Crap Gorps is ace (attorney!)) and Crap Gorps is also trans. For those who don't know, Jolteon is some from of demonic antichrist sent to destroy the earth, but his gay dads raised him so well that he's a good sunshine boy who would never hurt anyone and doesn't know his own power. Meanwhile, Crap Gorps is an insecure lawyer who Jolteon uplifts and encourages to be his best self. They become best friends during a long journeyâ to quote Jolteon, "you're all my best friends, but I think you're my BESTEST best friend." It probably won't make it into the highlight reels, but someone in chat asked about shipping them and the creator (who loves romance) said he sees them as completely platonic best friends.
âXenk grew up in Thay, which gets a very bad rep because it is ruled by a dictator. Xenk escaped halfway through this process . . . He just decided to wander the world and do good because he had survived such immense evil, and so he kind of wants to rep the Thayans in a way that can balance out the fact that the vast majority of them are a walking army of the evil undead. And, so, heâs got his work cut out for him.â
âHe is sworn to heroism. Heâs a kind of infuriatingly upright, moral, perfect crusader of a paladin hero, which works nicely within D&D because paladins are kind of known as the shiny boys. Theyâre known as being slightly overly heroic and showy. And I think the joy of Xenk is that heâs all of those things and completely and utterly unaware of them, but also just asserts them incredibly naturally.â
- âThe Art and Making of Dungeons & Dragons Honor Among Thievesâ, page 49
my favorite part of this bit is that Xenk (paladin supreme) had full faith that everyone would be able to follow the extremely complicated pattern he detailed. he had probably done it enough times on his own for it to make perfect sense to him
but for literally everyone else, each step could be like a DC 12 Intelligence check to make sure they remembered the pattern he described, and they would probably all make the first couple and then fuck up terribly, at which point the bridge would collapse with all of them on it and only Simon and Doric have shown having the ability to fly, so attempting to follow Xenkâs path wouldâve almost definitely resulted in multiple deaths.
Because if even one of them rolled below a 5, that whole thing wouldâve fallen into a lava pit, and with him leading the way that couldâve legit ended his hundred-twenty year old life WAAAAAY quick. Lava is brutal in DND yâall
Ultimately, thinking with portals was the MUCH safer option, but Xenk being pissed was soooooo much funnier than it wouldâve been even if they had succeeded
Simon fucking up and destroying the bridge is one of my favorite bits, cause it's the only time in the movie where Xenk is truly and honestly annoyed.
And the best part is that he doesn't even say anything! He just looks at Simon like "Really?"
Even when the group starts talking about what they're gonna do to get across Xenk's still just standing there giving Simon The Lookâą
i already sent this to OP in messages but i realized I had never posted it, but yeah, Jarnathanâs wings alone prove that Honor Among Thieves deserves to win a million different film making awards, because heâs barely in the movie but this is the amount of effort they put into creating him
Why didn't anyone tell me there's a birdman in Dungeons & Dragons
