Smaugust Day 23: D&D
Stole your camel!
The blue dragon is my dad's favorite! I combined elements of 1e version (a more slender build with a long neck, and a long tail with a bladed tip), with elements of 3-5e (spiky elbows and the weird fin-like ear).
I accidentally gave him a gabumon /garurumon color scheme but it looks great so I'm keeping it.
Bonus process photos:
Thumbnails, based on pictures of desert landscapes and storms:
The bottom thumbnails were based on a photo called Double Arch by Dave Schafer [link]
From an enlarged thumbnail I started by fully rendering the head (to gain confidence, and set the level of detail I want)
I then proceeded to repaint the arms, hands, and neck so many times.... I kept giving the dragon the hands/arms of just a buff human man until I finally caved and looked at references for lion arms and hawk feet.
Coloring was done with a series of color layers and multiply layers, for both the dragon and the background. This was also a struggle because I kept making the dragon's blue too saturated, making it look really unnatural.
This was my first time painting a rocky landscape like this, so I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.
#the wings are incredible#it really drives home how odd the dragon body plan is and how ancient and strange dragons are#great mish mash of features and i love a strong setting#art#dragon#blue dragon#chromatic dragon

Dungeons &... Dungeons
this is @fishtomale's D&D sideblog, if you want to know more about me as a person, my interests and beliefs, go check out my main blog.
Hamish. 27. He / Him.
I am a Dungeon Master (DM). I am a beginner in this role. I play D&D version 5e exclusively but older versions, especially their lore, do interest me, even if not from an intention of playing standpoint. I try my best to be pretty accommodating, encouraging even, of expansion, legacy, and some homebrew content within or atop the Forgotten Realms world in my own games.
I am currently very early in a modified campaign of "Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage".
Expect to see resources, advice, meems and joaks, original content and characters I'm ogling over, meta, inspiration, and personal experience. I may also occasionally interact with media heavily related to or inspired by D&D or other tabletop experiences (Baldur's Gate 3, Delicious in Dungeon, Disco Elysium, etc.) I am biased towards the Underdark, Drow, Aberrations, Hags, the Gith, anything aquatic, Paladins, Warlocks, and Rogues. I am biased against the chromatic / metallic Dragons dichotomy (sorry), Dragonborn lore (sorry), Rangers, the morality alignment system, and D&D worldbuilding in relation to race, culture, and religion which lacks nuance and is moralized.
