DU FIRST CUT-OFF OUT, ADMISSION BEGIN: KEY THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

The Delhi University will release first cut-off list on Friday which will initiate the admissions in the university. The university will come out with five cut-offs this year. The second, third, fourth and fifth lists will be announced on July 4, July 9, July 15 and July 20, respectively.

Few points to be kept in mind before students go to college and hunt the course:

How to proceed:-

Applicants should log in to the admission portal to choose a college and course from a list of colleges and courses they are eligible for, after the first list is declared. After meeting the cutoff requirement, applicant proceeds to the respective colleges for admission with original copies of all requisite documents.

The principal approves the admission after the applicant presents the documents to the college for verification. The provisional admission will be given in case documents cannot be verified online.

Admitted students have to produce originals of mandatory documents within a week of the last day of undergraduate admissions for forensic verification, failing the provisional admission may be cancelled.

A link will be received by the applicants on their portal to pay the fee online. Students should pay up within 24 hours after the approval of admission by the head of institution and save the acknowledgement slip bearing transaction ID, credit card/ debit card/ net banking details and date of transaction as a proof for future reference. The applicant is granted the provisional admission to the said college after successful payment of fees.

Documents to carry:-

The Students are required to carry a printout of the form from the admissions portal, the required supporting original documents along with their photocopies and three recent passport-size photographs.

The applicants are required to produce the following documents in original with two sets of self-attested photocopies at the time of admission - class 10 and 12 mark sheets, SC/ST/OBC/EWS/CW/KM certificate issued by the competent authority, OBC (non-creamy layer) certificate wherein the caste is in the OBC central list and EWS certificate or acknowledgement slips from competent authority certifying the applicant can claim reservation under this category.

Prefer course over college:-

Candidates should prefer course over college. Even principals of many north campus colleges advised students to choose course over college and take admission wherever meets with the eligibility criterion.

It is important to take admission in preferred course as their career depends on that and should not compromise with it. According to Manoj Khanna, the principal of Ramjas College, “The students should think their entire career is dependent on what course they choose for graduation. If they go for a college and not the course, they might end up choosing an unsuitable course for themselves”.

The students should understand that they will get a similar degree irrespective of the college they graduated from. All Delhi University colleges offer similar courses and students will get similar education everywhere. Even the degrees do not mention the name of the college students graduated from. Options other than regular DU Colleges:-

Options such as the School of Open Learning (SOL) and Non-Collegiate Women Education Board (NCWEB) can be opted by students if not able to secure the seat in Delhi University in midst of soaring cut-offs. While the former invites the applications from all students, the is reserved for female candidates in Delhi.

SOL offers five undergraduate correspondence programmes: BA Programme, BCom, BCom (Hons), BA English (Hons) and BA Political Science (Hons). The online registration for these courses began on June 1 and would continue till July 31. Classes are likely to begin in September.

Candidates applying for these courses should keep in mind that the examinations are held in Delhi and they would attend a few classes held on weekends. Various skill-oriented professional courses in private universities can be opted by the students where they can study human resource management, retail management, hotel management, and fashion designing among other things.

NCWEB is another option for female residents of Delhi. It has over 24,000 students studying BA, BCom and MA programme at its 26 centres. Since its classes are held on Sundays, the women’s education board allows students to pursue a degree who cannot join regular college for various reasons. North Campus has three founding colleges of the university which constituted the University of Delhi at the time when it was founded. University of Delhi is recognized as the biggest university of India which is also known as Delhi University, It is a public central university which is located in New Delhi, India. Delhi University was founded in 1922 by an Act of the Central Legislative Assembly.

The main functions of this university are divided between the academic departments of the university and affiliated colleges. Under Delhi University there were three colleges, two faculties, and 750 students at its founding and the University of Delhi has since become India's largest institution of higher learning and listed among the largest in the world.

The university currently has 16 faculties and 86 departments which is distributed across its North and South campuses. Almost 3 lakhs of students studies in both campuses, The Vice President of India is the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University.

History of Delhi University:

Delhi University was established in 1922 as a teaching and residential university by the Britshers.

Delhi University was to be named as Prince Charles University but thanks to Rai Kedarnath who was a counselor to the Chief Commissioner of Delhi at that time and he also founded Ramjas College and is known as the founder of this college.

He suggested the name of that university as Delhi University, Hari Singh Gour served was the university's first vice chancellor of this university from 1922 to 1926.

But at that time only four colleges existed in Delhi and they are St. Stephen's College, Hindu College, Zakir Husain Delhi College and Ramjas College founded in 1917, and at that time this university had two faculties and approximately 750 numbers of students.

The silver jubilee year of the university happened in 1947 when India got freedom and the national flag was hoisted in the main building for the first time by Vijayendra Kasturi Ranga Varadaraja Rao but in that year no convocation ceremony was done due to the partition of India, But a special ceremony was held in 1948, the then Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru attended the function. Twenty five years later the golden jubilee celebrations of 1973 were attended by the then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi, Satyajit Ray, Amrita Pritam and M. S. Subbulakshmi.

Campuses:

There are 90 colleges and 16 faculties affiliated to the University of Delhi which is spread across Delhi.

North Campus and South Campus serve as the two main campuses of the University.

NORTH CAMPUS

North Campus has three founding colleges of the university which constituted the University of Delhi at the time when it was founded. North campus proper now has 13 colleges geographically centred on the Faculty of Arts, Science , Law and Management and the name if those colleges are Kirori Mal College, Daulat Ram College, Hansraj College, Hindu College, Lady Irwin College, Indraprastha College for Women, Miranda House, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies , SGTB Khalsa College. Ramjas College, Shri Ram College of Commerce, Satyawati College, Lakshmibai College, Shyam Lal College and Maharaja Agrasen College. The extended off campus also has colleges in the Ashok Vihar, Pitampura, Rajouri Garden and Netaji Subhash Place neighborhoods of Delhi. The campus also houses other centres and institutes of Delhi which include the Cluster Innovation Centre , Delhi School of Economics and Delhi School Of Journalism and also the Ambedkar Center for Biomedical Research (ACBR).

SOUTH CAMPUS

Delhi University started it’s south campus in 1973 as an effort to cope with its expansion. It moved to its current location on Benito Juarez Marg, near Dhaula Kuan, in 1984. The campus is spread across 28 hectares. The various departments are located in the Faculty of Arts, Interdisciplinary, Applied Sciences and the S.P. Jain Centre for Management Studies. DELHI UNIVERSITY ADMISSION 2018: ONLINE APPLICATION CLOSING

Delhi University Admission 2018 online application is closing tomorrow i.e., June 7. The aspirants are advised to log on to the official website of the university, du.ac.in to fill the DU admission form online. Delhi University forms for different undergraduate, postgraduate and M.Phil/PhD programmes were made available online from May 15. Direct link and steps to fill the Delhi University admission form are given below.

The entrance examinations for different Bachelors, Masters and M.Phil courses would be conducted from June 17 to June 21, 2018, in three shifts, 8 to 10 am, 12 to 2 pm and 4 to 6 pm. The exam duration will be of 2 hours. Also, online application to Postgraduate Diploma in Cyber Security and Law is open.

From the top menu, click on Undergraduate Admissions, Postgraduate admissions and M.Phil./Ph.D. Admissions, as applicable

On the new page, scroll down and click on UG/ PG/ M.Phil./Ph.D.  Admission Portal

A new DU Admission login Portal would open. Fresh applicants to use New User Registration link below the login space.

Enter required information and click on Register tab.

After successful registration, upload photograph, signature, ID proof, Class 10th Certificate. Enter more details as required.

Fill college and course preferences, centre preferences, preview the application proceed towards payment. Once you have made the payment you would not be allowed to make any changes.
