Rouge Reads (Part 1): Romance of the Three Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong, translated by Moss Roberts
This was an assigned reading for one of my courses and I'm really glad I had the opportunity to read it in an academic setting! I say part 1 as reading the entirety of Three Kingdoms is not possible when there were a few other works listed under the syllabus to read. Thus, my professor decided to assign specific chapters that were particularly important so I got the general idea but I definitely want to go back and read the chapters I missed.
I understand why Three Kingdoms is so acclaimed as a masterwork after reading it! It's an incredibly influential work in China and outside of it. (Oh fun fact! My mom said the Vietnamese name for it was Tam Quốc Diễn Nghĩa when I mentioned reading it on a phone call) I highly recommend reading it if you haven't already and interests you!
The opening lines set a great narrative tone and seeing them mirrored in the ending was incredibly satisfying. The cycles of division and reunification really stuck out to me. I enjoyed Luo Guanzhong's depiction of Zhuge Liang particularly and he ended up becoming a favorite of mine!
I'll do a part 2 when I read through my copies again, but that will have to wait for when I get enough ample time to do so! (Really excited though)

Your requests are open again. YAY! I was wondering if you could draw Roger (Bond) but in Neuvillette's outfit from genshin impact. You can simplify the details if it helps (Genshin characters can be so detailed). >:3 - Luna ✨️
Hi Luna!! I actually really like doing crossover stuff like this so this was fun to receive in the inbox! Sorry that this took quite some time (academics got to me haha) but I hope you like it!!

Stellar Streams in the Local Universe
Image Credit: David Martinez Delgado et al.
Explanation: The twenty galaxies arrayed in these panels are part of an ambitious astronomical survey of tidal stellar streams. Each panel presents a composite view; a deep, inverted image taken from publicly available imaging surveys of a field that surrounds a nearby massive galaxy image. The inverted images reveal faint cosmic structures, star streams hundreds of thousands of light-years across, that result from the gravitational disruption and eventual merger of satellite galaxies in the local universe. Such surveys of mergers and gravitational tidal interactions between massive galaxies and their dwarf satellites are crucial guides for current models of galaxy formation and cosmology. Of course, the detection of stellar streams in the neighboring Andromeda Galaxy and our own Milky Way also offers spectacular evidence for ongoing satellite galaxy disruption within our more local galaxy group.

I am a very diligent student to my detriment sometimes. I am really looking forward to writing about Three Kingdoms for my course to the point I may do my term paper TWO MONTHS early.

Okay, not to bring up random things from a niche community but I'm seeing many people stand up for fellow LGBTQ+ folks in the fountain pen community! To keep things objective and not foster speculation regarding a certain online retailer, I don't want to discuss the situation here (yet). However, it has resulted in people denouncing anti-LGBTQ+ sentiments and brought a bit of attention to retailers who are allies or queer themselves!

i genuinely appreciate the effort, but that "non eyestrain" version of the cringetober prompt list is not in fact non eyestrain. try solid black text on a white background?
Sorry about that! Personally I find high contrast images even harder to look at, so I didn't consider the incredibly basic black text, white bg at first. I hope this works!!

The Dark Seahorse of Cepheus
Image Credit & Copyright: Davide Broise
Explanation: Spanning light-years, this suggestive shape known as the Seahorse Nebula floats in silhouette against a rich, luminous background of stars. Seen toward the royal northern constellation of Cepheus, the dusty, dark nebula is part of a Milky Way molecular cloud some 1,200 light-years distant. It is also listed as Barnard 150 (B150), one of 182 dark markings of the sky cataloged in the early 20th century by astronomer E. E. Barnard. Packs of low mass stars are forming within, but their collapsing cores are only visible at long infrared wavelengths. Still, the colorful Milky Way stars of Cepheus add to this stunning galactic skyscape.
