Something I love about this set is that each of his family members is 'altered' in some way here. John and Samuel are possessed by Azazel; Mary is not actually Mary but just a false image of her; Sam is soulless.

Dean's body is put in sexual peril by versions of his family members that he will try to absolve of blame. It wasn't them, not their real selves, and it wasn't their fault. And in many ways, that's true! But it doesn't change the fact that it happened. Y'know?
