“Or you could just follow me back for now and decide, don’t worry about convenience. I get lonely.” he lies.
Dragging the other by intertwining their fingers, he headed straight for his place, a humble apartment with only a small kitchen area, a bed, a bathroom, a small study table and miscellaneous items lying around. “Make yourself comfortable, I guess.” he declares as he heads to the kitchen and quickly prepares a glass of water, overspilling it’s content as he tries to bring it the way back to Seungcheol.
Joshua’s place was well-kept, if a little messy, but Seungcheol couldn’t bring himself to judge considering his own apartment looked like a tornado ripped through it every day. Whenever his mom came over he would get nagged about it incessantly.
Mom…
Seungcheol bit his lip, the longing hitting him like a punch to the gut. Suddenly Seungcheol wanted nothing more than to curl into his mother’s soft embrace and let his father make him his favourite pancakes.
Get a grip on yourself, he scolded himself, it’s not like you won’t see them again.
But when he thought about it, all he could think off was how much shame he would be bringing to his family if he visited them.
There were a bunch of photos on the walls of people Seungcheol assumed to be Joshua’s own family. Seungcheol had always thought Joshua was alone (in all sense of the word) but then again he didn’t know the other boy very well and he wasn’t close enough to ask about such intimate things.
Of course he wanted to.
(Seungcheol wanted to know everything about Joshua.)
But Joshua had been kind enough to take him in on whatever fragile acquaintance they shared and for that Seungcheol was grateful.
A message pinged from Sana and he replied it quickly.
When he looked up again there was a glass of water being offered to him, water spilling down the sides. He looked up to Jisoo’s kind gaze only to quickly look away again.
“Thank you,” Seungcheol murmured, ducking his head and taking the glass and drinking it greedily. He didn’t know he was this thirsty.

“Oh well, It’s my first fanmeet after all- we can just wing it.” His confidence came running back after the slip-up, giving him a chance to look at all the faces in the auidence and smile at each of them.
“Alright,” He began once more, part of the schedule coming back to his memory. “How about we start with some questions you all have for me?”
Seungcheol sat back and let others ask their questions first, perfectly content with just sitting here and breathing the same air as his role model. Seungcheol particularly admired Michi’s quick wit and ability to make his answers both funny yet straightforward at the same time.
Seungcheol aspired to be that level of charismatic.
When a lull in the audience occurred, the man on the stage asked for more questions and Seungcheol found he had one to ask himself. He looked around and everyone seemed to be looking at each other.
Here goes nothing. Seungcheol’s hand shot up in the air.
“I have a question,” Seungcheol said.
Michi smiled, nodding at him to continue.
“What inspired you to make these videos?”

“…How can I help you, sir?” Sehun asked politely, masking away his slight surprise. He inwardly prayed that it wasn’t a spilled drink or a broken cup- was he so out of it that he didn’t even hear the sound of ceramic hitting the floor?
Seungcheol grinned.
“Come with me,” he said, pulling the barista by the arm without so much as a backward glance. If Sehun showed any resistance Seungcheol didn’t realize it, too excited to do his livestream to notice.
He sat the stunned barista down on the chair next to his, grinning widely at him.
“Hi Sehun!” Seungcheol greeted before the other could say anything. Seungcheol turned to the camera hovering in front of him. “Alright guys, I’ve found a stranger! He’s a barista here at the café I’m at and his name is Sehun! Say hello everyone!”
Instantly the comments were rolling in on his tablet, everything positive as far as Seungcheol could tell. The hearts went crazy.
‘Do they challenge!!!’ his fans urged. ‘Wow that barista’s cute!’
Seungcheol laughed, turning to Sehun.
“Okay, Sehun. As someone who’s been drinking your coffee since the start of college, I would like to say, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. Your coffee is amazing,” Seungcheol paused. “Wait, no, it’s more than that. It’s ground-breaking. It’s miraculous. It’s heaven itself in a big fat porcelain cup or a styrofoam one if it’s to-go. It helped me through finals and shitty mornings and painful nights working on papers those asshole professors only read the abstract off.”
Seungcheol took a deep breath, releasing it with a smile.
“So seriously, thank you.”
Just as the other boy looked like he was about to say something Seungcheol steamrolled on, suddenly getting the feeling that complimenting just his coffee was probably not enough.
“You also work really hard and are super professional at your job. I mean, you’re always so polite even to rude customers and I always see you quietly doing your job every day without complaint even though – let’s be real here – the manager’s an asshole.
“And you’re a super nice guy too, to be doing this with me,” Seungcheol said, nodding to the camera. He thought a little bit more. “Also, you’re pretty cute.”
‘Very cute,’ the comments agreed.
Seungcheol laughed. “Correction: My viewers say you’re very cute.”

All Because of A Cup of Coffee || csc & osh
Tumblr media
starter for @ea-sehun
Seungcheol was in his regular spot at the coffeehouse; a small booth enclosed on three sides by warm-toned wooden walls and a wraparound couch that was fraying at the edges. On the round table he had set up his recording gear; a HoloCam that hovered about capturing his best angle and his tablet to read the comments that will soon come in from his viewers.
It wasn’t exactly the best set-up – his HoloCam was old and would take random dives in the air before righting itself again, and no one even used tablets anymore – but it was enough for an amateur vlogger like Seungcheol. Although he had only started doing such live broadcasts a few weeks ago, Seungcheol was already gaining a decent following seeing as how he was somewhat popular on SeeMe and people at school always liked to know what he was up to.
Today Seungcheol had asked his viewers to send in truth or dare questions for him to do.
The messages started flooding the chat the moment Seungcheol went online. He laughed at a particularly funny question, reading it out loud: "Truth or dare? Truth; are you currently see someone? Dare; I dare you to tell us who you’ve been seeing."
"That dare isn’t a dare by the way," Seungcheol added good-naturedly. "But the truth is I'm single? I might like someone but I don’t know whether they like me back? It’s complicated." The comment box filled up with multiple inquiries – “Is it someone we know?”, “They’re probably very high rated, right?”, “Who!! Spill!!” – but they go unanswered as Seungcheol chooses to ignore them.
Instead he read out more truth or dare questions, sometimes picking truths and sometimes dares as he saw fit to keep the broadcast interesting.
"Truth or dare? Truth: What’s your sexual orientation? Dare: Drag a stranger on screen and compliment them for one minute."
Seungcheol paused at that particular question. He pursed his lips, looking at the Truth asked. Everyone already knew what his sexual orientation was. It was one of the first few things he had revealed about himself when he started these vlogs. It was no secret and Seungcheol had a feeling that whoever asked probably already knew the answer anyway. Which meant that what they really wanted him to do was the dare…
It wasn’t really a hard dare. The complimenting part would definitely be easy – Seungcheol was proud to say he was someone who could see the good in everyone and never hesitated to them about it.
It was the ‘stranger’ part that had him thinking twice. Seungcheol might be a loud and outgoing guy but he has not – and may never – reach the level of shamelessness required to randomly go up to people and ask them to be part of his vlogs.
Seungcheol was about to skip the question entirely but then hesitated. It was a cool dare... and it was better to try it now in a familiar environment than to have it crop up again when he was actually in public.
In a split second Seungcheol was announcing a quick “Be right back” and bounding up to a barista he had seen numerous times and was sure recognized him on at least some superficial level.
"Sehun?" Seungcheol asked, glancing at the guy’s nametag. "Could you help me with something?”

@ea-seungcheol
Jisoo didn’t know this but Seungcheol had been awake the whole time he was crying. The older had heard the younger boy’s sniffles and watched from the corner of his eyes as his tears reflected light from the moon.
It made Jisoo’s face look ethereal; little diamonds on his soft cheeks. Seungcheol wanted to give him stars right then - just an extra 0.001 (maybe 0.002) so it wouldn’t be noticeable but enough for Seungcheol to feel like he had done something to tell Jisoo he looked beautiful even when he was sad.
But Seungcheol didn’t do anything.
He didn’t even rise to wipe the tears away.
Something in him told him that if he did that, Jisoo would only push him away and that would be all for the night. Seungcheol wanted more than just tonight – he wanted a bit of tomorrow too.
So he kept quiet and let Jisoo cry, curling his arms around the smaller when he eventually came back into his arms again.
Now the sky was pink and the flowers tickled him awake. Jisoo was no longer by his side. Instead he was standing a distance, away, watching Seungcheol.
“I’m going now,” Jisoo said the moment their eyes met.
‘So soon?’ Seungcheol wanted to say but instead what fell from his lips was, “Okay.”
Maybe Seungcheol imagined the disappointment on Jisoo’s face. It was gone in a second, replaced by the mask of indifference Seungcheol got every day. He hated it.
Jisoo turned around to leave but Seungcheol suddenly couldn’t bear the thought of them parting like this.
“Actually, where are you headed?”
“Uhm, I don’t–”
“Great, I’m going there too.” Seungcheol jumped up and bounded the younger’s side before he could say anything else. “Let’s go together.”
The thing about keeping his fences up so high, Jisoo notes, was the fact that any bit of transparency, of letting his guard down, has a significant impact on him. He hides it, tries to keep it down and put up a front. At the stage where he was already crying and letting out that tinge of fragility, of being weak, the best was to pretend he didn’t know Seungcheol, an acquaintance, knows.
And he would never express aloud how grateful he is for Seungcheol, for pretending he doesn’t know, for not taking actions on Jisoo’s tears. (For bringing him here to look at the stars that shine back at him and for keeping him company.)
When Seungcheol eventually falls asleep, Jisoo observes the older boy once more, feature to feature, taking note of how long his eyelashes were and how ethereal he looked. He doesn’t speak and he lets the soft howling of the breeze and the chirping of the cricket accompany him for the night while he watches the elder, trying to sync his breath with the rhythmic motions of Seungcheol’s chest.
He brushes one hand across Seungcheol’s hair, a soft smile forming on his lips, ruffling his hair lightly so as to not wake the other up. At least he’s not looking. But that didn’t last, as the other boy scrunches his nose up and looked like he was about to open his eyes, Jisoo, in one fluid motion, grabbed his bag, slung it over his shoulder and stood up, looking down at him.
When Seungcheol’s eyes open, he hoped he wasn’t blushing, thanked the pink tinted sky for giving him an excuse if he was.
“I’m going now-” he lied, but looking at the time, he needed to go anyway.
Despite all the mental notes he gave himself, Jisoo couldn’t help the feelings of discomfort when Seungcheol replied so non-chalently to his departure, maybe he’s just nice to everyone. He blinked, in the millisecond, pushing his every thought about the other boy to the back of his minds, before gazing down again. You’re probably not the only one.
He doesn’t say bye, though his lips part for it, taking a turn and his first step to his workplace, his steps bigger than they ought to be. One, two. It took three steps before Seungcheol asks where he is headed for. And he tries, tries, to explain that he doesn’t fit, isn’t loved and that the other shouldn’t follow him because it’s such a disgrace to be with him - but Seungcheol insisted, he follows.
Jisoo doesn’t try to block out the thoughts reminding him that he will implicate Seungcheol if they’re seen together, doesn’t try to convince himself otherwise when he tells himself he isn’t that special to Seungcheol, and he never stops to mute the word acquaintances.
He stops, abruptly, almost bumping into Seungcheol who didn’t notice him halting in his steps, turns around and looks at him in the eye.
“You don’t have to be so stubborn to follow me, just so you could mock me where I’m not looking, you know?” it’s baseless, but that was the point, anything to antagonise himself, so he doesn’t see the instructor again - and let his fences down once more. “Do you think it’s funny? It’s not, you will hear things you don’t want to when they see us together, you will be dropping too quickly for yourself to adapt. Now, will you please leave me alone.”
He doesn’t give the other a chance to reply or justify himself, and he starts running for his workplace. He doesn’t take a glance at his face because he doesn’t want his resolve to falter. He wanted, needed to be alone and that’s it.
- is there somewhere : end -

Everything was moving too fast for Seungcheol to comprehend.
It had been a tough day at school and then an even longer day at work where Seungcheol was worked to the core by one of his fitness-crazy Fern clients. He had planned on taking a long relaxing bath when he reached home, scarf down the leftover macaroni his mother had left him just a few days ago and fall asleep to reruns of High Skies Life – the reality show for HS Entertainment trainees.
But the moment he stepped into his apartment his notifications started blaring off, signalling that something was wrong, very wrong. One glance at his screen and his heart was falling from his chest.
1.750.
1.750 stars in less than a second.
It was funny how the first thing that came mind was a passing quote from a literature class he had taken as an elective a year ago: “Fame is a fickle food upon a shifting plate.”
The second thing he felt was fear, followed very closely by shame.
It didn’t help that there were men at the door either, forcibly evicting him from his home.
“Open the door Mr Choi!” someone yelled from the other side, “Things will go much faster if you cooperate with us!”
Seungcheol was a shaking mess. He was beyond terrified and had no idea what to do with himself with such a low rating.
How could something like this happen? Did he do something wrong? Who did he anger? How could he suddenly lose two whole stars?
“Mr Choi!”
“Coming, coming!” Seungcheol shouted back, trying to hide the tremor in his voice. When he finally came to the door, two of the three men were looking at him with little more than disgust while the third merely read over his notes, paying Seungcheol no attention at all.
“Mr Choi Seungcheol,” the one with the clipboard read, “You are hereby sent to live in Field due to insufficient ratings and must surrender the keys to your Grass home immediately to avoid penalty and further point docking.”
“No!” Seungcheol surprised himself with his bravery. “T-there must be some kind of mistake! I’m – was – a 3.750! I can’t have lost so many stars so quickly!”
The ma looked at him fiercely. “The system makes no mistakes Mr Choi.”
“B-but–”
The man didn’t wait for him to continue. With a subtle nod the other two came from behind the man and pulled Seungcheol from the doorway, barging into his home without his permission.
“Wait, no!” Seungcheol cried, but they were already rummaging around the drawers, presumably searching for the key card and anything else that had to be confiscated from Seungcheol due to his drop in ratings.
“Wait please!” Seungcheol turned to the man in charge. “At least let me get my things. I-I won’t cause any trouble, just let me grab some clothes and my belongings.”
At Seungcheol’s words the two men in the house paused, looking to the one outside for instructions. The man nodded again.
“Thank you,” Seungcheol whispered. He scrambled back into the house, avoiding all eye contact. He grabbed a duffel bag from his closet and hastily stuffed clothes, underwear, a toothbrush and other things he may need inside. He grabbed several microchips too, which contained his school notes and other important documents.
It was funny how his whole life could seemingly fit into one bag.
“Are you ready?” a gruff voice called from behind him. Seungcheol was overcome by a sudden empty feeling when he looked back at his home one last time.
“We’ll leave your things the way they are until you find a new permanent address in Field,” the man was saying. “It will stay untouched up for a month after which, if the status of your ratings does not change and you have not yet moved your belongings, all will be collected and disposed of by The Central Waste Management Facility.”
Seungcheol nodded numbly, hearing but not really listening.
The men escorted him out the door. Seungcheol took one last glance over his shoulder. The men watched him back just as sternly. Slowly, Seungcheol turned back around and trudged away from what was once his home.
Whatever courage that had possessed him to walk away from the men and not beg at their feet to let him stay was lost the moment he stepped onto the city streets of Grass. It was close to midnight but there were still people about and they looked at him oddly, whispering amongst each other and some even pointing rudely at him.
Seungcheol felt more ashamed than ever.
He couldn’t even go to his parents knowing he might jeopardize their rating and bring shame to his family. Besides, he wouldn’t want to hear the disappointment in their voices despite how supportive he was sure they would be.
He didn’t want to hurt them like that.
Seungcheol ducked his head, walking fast. There was only one way to Field in any case and Seungcheol would just have to figure things out when he got there.
Nervousness and fear gnawed away at him. It wasn’t the first time he would be getting on a train to Field, but it would be first time he went there because he belonged.
Questions raced through his mind. What was he going to do? Where would he live? How would he survive? Would his Fern clients still want him as their personal trainer? Would people still want to watch his vlogs?
1.750. That was nothing. A class above criminals. The people with no homes and no food. It was the people he had been trying to help through his volunteer work.
And now he was one of them.
Seungcheol felt the tears before he registered he was crying. The fear was so loud.
He would have nowhere to live. Nothing at all.
He was suddenly so lonely.
Seungcheol was in the midst of a total breakdown surrounded by strangers who did nothing but stare at him. They’re probably giving me low ratings even now, Seungcheol thought, reflecting on how ugly and undesirable he must look, sobbing on the train platform like this.
But then, amongst the judgemental crowd, a familiar face.
A kind face; one that bore no disgust or malice, just the same sad eyes and neutral expression.
Seungcheol didn’t realize how much he loved and craved that face until now.
His feet were moving forward before he even realized it.
“Jisoo,” he whispered, when he reached the boy. The other just smiled softly back. A quick look at his screen told Seungcheol that Jisoo had dropped in ratings too.
It is because of me? Seungcheol suddenly panicked.
But Jisoo remained composed which made him calm down too.
“Jisoo,” Seungcheol repeated, even softer and more vulnerable than before. “I… I don’t know what to do.”

Sliding it on, he continued walking out of his make-shift dressing room (after all, he had to look good for his fans). Witha  calm smile and a cool exterior, he walked to the room two doors down, where his fans were waiting to meet him. Originally the fan meeting would have been outside but it was raining and Michi wouldn’t make his fans stand out in that. With a short mental pep talk, he opened the door a little bit and stuck his head in, makigna few funny faces to make the fans laugh and relax a little. Finally walking in, he wore a big smile. “I don’t suppose all of you are here to meet me?” He said jokingly, chuckling a little when the fans- more than he expected- all reassured him that they were there for him. “Ah, you guys are the best.”
Seungcheol was practically buzzing with excitement as he waited impatiently for his role model and biggest inspiration to come through the doors. Maybe that was an exaggeration but Hisakawa Michi had certainly made Seungcheol want to do something with his life.
It was no secret that Seungcheol was an odd one in the community; entirely contented with his ratings and apathetic towards the system, being labelled “lazy” and “unmotivated” had only encouraged Seungcheol to sink deeper into the mould that came with such stereotypes. But that all changed when he watched one of Michi’s videos. Suddenly Seungcheol wanted to do something, help someone, be worthy.
The change in attitude could be attributed to how encouraging and supportive his family was but what really triggered it all was those random vlogs. Seungcheol felt he owed Michi a lot for the person he was now, just as much as he owed his parents.
So when he heard Michi was having a fan meeting in Fern he begged his oldest brother to let him visit, seeing as how Seungcheol didn’t have enough ratings himself to enter.
Seungcheol would be backlogged on a paper and miss a day of classes but it was worth it.
Now he bounced eagerly in his seat waiting for Michi to start. He had come fifteen minutes earlier just in case and stressed out about what he wore. He never was the type to do that but he was facing his idol right now. He needed to look his best.
The the lights on the stage dimmed and everyone hushed.
A head popped out from behind the doors before walking onto the stage entirely.
“Oh my gosh,” Seungcheol could only whisper. He misses the joke being shared, star-struck as he was.
“Ah,” the man said, “You guys are the best.”

“Come back,” Seungcheol whispers, “Just stay alittle longer.” But the younger is already on his way out, back turned to him andwalking away. “Jisoo it’s raining out there.”
“Better there than here.”
Seungcheol tries to pretend that the words didn’thurt. “Jisoo–”
But the rest of his words is drowned out when Jisoo opens the door and the sound of the thundering storm floods theroom. Just as quickly the door slams shut and it’s quiet again. The small roomthat once held two is suddenly too big for its single occupant.
Seungcheol falls back onto his sofa, willing thetears not to fall.
He knew this was going to happen sooner or later. Hehad hoped it would be later – much, much later in the future when whatever theywere building would be too strong to break – but things never quite go theway we want them to.
Seungcheol closes his eyes and all he can see is thefield. The field and Jisoo’s smile as he runs through the wildflowers, lookingso much like one himself that it makes Seungcheol want to yell in joy and hashis heart racing out of his chest. Jisoo, who is pain and beauty all at once.
Jisoo who is not his but somehow became hiseverything.
Whatever friendship they had been planting wasfragile and cautious but it was blooming. Seungcheol made sure to nurture itand care for it like it was a baby bird with a broken wing.
But because of one silly mistake, it withered.
And now all Seungcheol could think about is howempty the field will be without its special flower.

The Sun beat down relentlessly on thecity, hot waves of heat coming off the concrete. It’s characteristic sounds – thezooming cars, hurried footfall, traffic lights warning off the coming red – fadedinto the background as all Seungcheol could hear was the steady huff, huff, huff of his breathing. Sweatdripped down the side of his forehead and gathered at the back of his neck. Nextto him Yeonjoo kept pace.
Or maybe Yeonjoo was leading and hewas the one following; Seungcheol couldn’t tell anymore. They were pushinglimits and for the first time Seungcheol was feeling winded.
“Things going okay at work noona?”Seungcheol asked conversationally. From experience Seungcheol knew thatwhenever one of his clients got wild like this, it was probably because theywere angry or upset but had no other way to release it than through exercise. (Thatwas partly why Seungcheol liked what he did so much; he got to see the realperson for what they were.) The older woman didn’t answer and instead pumpedher legs harder.
Seungcheol followed suit, running afterher.
“It’s okay noona. Let it out,”Seungcheol assured, maybe a little unnecessarily. But then a tiny, tiny smile formed on Yeonjoo’s lips andSeungcheol figured it was exactly what she needed to hear.

“Damn I’m sorry!” Seungcheol yelled a little too loudly, watching helplessly as brown liquid dripped down the front of the girl’s shirt and onto the floor.
“I swear I’m not usually this clumsy–” In an attempt to put his bag down and grab tissues from inside, Seungcheol somehow manages to trip forward and spill more even coffee onto the ground. It bounced off the tiles and onto the girl’s shoes, making her jump back in shock. Seungcheol burned red. “I’m so sorry, okay, I take it back, I am very clumsy–”
A tinkling laugh halted his ramblings and made him look up into one of the prettiest faces he had ever seen. Seungcheol would be lying if he said he wasn’t a little star struck.
“Oh wow, you’re Miy– Sana. Like– Sana. Okay, I’m very very embarrassed now.”
To prove it he quickly looked back down and focussed on cleaning up the mess on the floor instead. It wasn’t until a few seconds later that he realized the bigger problem here wasn’t the floor but the fact that he had just ruined Minatozaki Sana’s shoes and shirt. And that she still hadn’t moved from the spot.
He stood up immediately, realizing his mistake.
If he were his parents he’d scold himself for not being a gentleman and taking care of Sana first. If he were his brothers he would be worried about her docking his stars.
But Seungcheol was Seungcheol and all he could really think of at the moment was how it must be getting uncomfortable wearing a sticky, coffee-stained shirt and squishy socks.
“Uh,” he started, a little stupidly, “I have some spare clothes and flip-flops in my locker if you need to change?”
